Ao Kiji said that he owes a debt to Luffy's Grandfather. Garp has been revealed to have "cornered the Pirate King". Maybe Kuzan was defeated by Roger, and Garp saved him, then captured/cornered Roger. Thus forming a debt.

Best chapter in ages. And I think that Luffy chose to stab himself under his eye to prove himself because he was impressed by the scar of his grandpa. That's 430 chapters of foreshading, largest to date.

I think that Luffy's bounty has not increased yet, and so that Garp just knows about the Arabasta affair, but ignores at the time that the strawhats rampaged on enies lobby… And that he will find out when he leaves Luffy to return to his marine duty...

wait how the hell did garp know luffy was at water 7? i have a feeling he is there to meet luffy since he probably hasn't seen him in a very long time but also to tell him that the marines are coming to kill him. it's probably going to be one of those i will give you a headstart before i chase you type deals. if garp knows he is at water 7 then so does the other marines. it would be really cool if Akainu was the one that was coming to get them. also hopefully garp is going to show luffy and the crew they're new bounty's.

There is bound to be some skirmishes… to think anything else would be foolish... (Pirates Vs Marines after all). Nothing major, but just a small one until everyone understands the situation.
I mean if Ussop and Zoro come back...all what they'll see are marines outside of the building and they'd engage them.
Something tells me that Garp's men are loyal to him...and that's it. So they'll be willing to let Luffy go as well. No doubt they all admire him and with them being in the grandline, he has probably helped saved their lives on more than one occassion.
from what I seen, it's going to be non-stop action from here on till the end….. when you do serious stuff, you get serious people coming after you.... even if it is FAMILY......

I say he came with a huge ship because he wanted to suprise Luffy, or maybe he could only bring Coby and Helmeppo if he tricked the HQ using big ships, dunno about that.
Anyways I don't think Garp is a D, since I don't think he will let a family member being executed [if the D passes with genes]..
The end was way too exciting, I know, but why didn't anyone mention the fact that Franky isn't even thinking of joining? Did you already discuss it to the bone in the spoilers or something? Well, I'm shocked here! Even if it's like that, Usopp was the same way [thought Luffy invited him right on], so maybe when things cool down Luffy [and possibly Usopp] will twist him to an anti-Vivi.
BTW, I think Helmeppo and Coby are gonna snap when they'll hear about Garp and Luffy [if they don't know about it].

Oh wow, Garp is Luffy's grandpa. I was thinking that he could be someone in the marine ranks, but I never thought it would be him.
Also, so now we finallly know what Franky spent the money on. No big surprise there, I always assumed it was going to be something to do with building a ship. Mmm, special wood. It's nice to finally stop wondering.

It could be that Roger surrendered. If it's true that everyone in Luffy's family carries a D, and if it turns out that Garp has a D too… would you fight a father/brother/uncle if he was the one that cornered you?
There's a great lighthearted vibe around here, because no matter how serious we might get, we're all together because of some magical pirate.
All One Piece fans are going crazy about this. I love my no-life living. After all this EL kung-fu, asura and flaming foot-things, this is something so fresh.

I agree no more fighting. However, how can you complain about people expecting some? There are marines and pirates in the same area, and one of them just punched Luffy in the head. That drama will always be there.

Ah, this old arguement again. No, I still don't like the 5 Buster Call Vas. They are still most likely weaker then Lucci–which come to think of it is hardly weak anyway. And I greatly disgree the the VAs as a whole as a superpower. The Admirals got to be known as a powerful rank because there are 3 of them, but with the VAS there are too many to count. After all, they all can't be the same level of strength and ability can they? They are all at least "up there" I'll give you that.
Therefore, it's more likely that there are just a few extraordinary VAs who are legends on their own–like Garp! He's how you do a powerful VA! As soon as he enters, he's the talk of the town, the man who cornered Roger, and punched Luffy in the head. Badass. So much cooler then those last 5 VAs. This is what distingushes the great from the lame in One Piece.
And some people are asking, why was is a Vice Admiral and not an Admiral that cornered Roger? well, maybe Garp is a better tactician then say, Aokiji (who actually would be lower right at the time..) or SenGoku. Maybe he set a great trap that the Admirals weren't smart enough to make. It's not like the Admirals are all "jacks of all trades." Aokiji is a strong ice fighter with a weird plan, and really nothing else. see, rank isn't that big a deal, it's the individuals.

Amen. It really pissed me off when so many people assumed that the VAs on the Buster Call could own the crew in the same way that Aokiji did, or that they were so close to all the Admirals.

This chapter's just chocked full of stuff - potential new ship made by an apprentice of Tom, using the wood from the same tree for the keel… then Garp comes in, followed by what looks like Koby and Helmeppo! On page 19, he said in the caption - wait here, both of you (according to the spoiler trans)...
Then of course I'm also shocked to find he is Luffy's granpa. I thought Luffy said at one point his grandfather was a great pirate?? O_O
