It is no longer off topic fire. Did you even notice? This is a direct indication of us asking you to mind your manners. Anyway I had already made my correction. You are like a immature child who cannot stop penalizing on others and insulting them for their mistakes.
Error!?! A Revised TimeLine Check

@Fire:
Usopp said "It will take a 'normal' person two years to recover."
Sanji comfirming Usopp "Zoro gotta be crazy to be able to move in such a condition"
What does that mean? Oda's simply trying to stress how monstrous Zoro is.I thought this was pretty obvious. The misunderstanding, however has nothing to do with poor translation.
-
um.. I quoted what ramza said
"In this very chapter Usopp claim to Sanji that Zoro wounds need more than two years to be cured. (why would he lie?)"
u misunderstood me again
my whole point was don't start bs when u misunderstood by reading a wrongly translated script. quit whining anymore lol. i'm not tellin u to go learn jap or cocky cuz i know jap geez.
whatever u said about japanese businessmen not being able to read kanji was totally off topic lol.
Fire, dude, this is off-topic but needs to be established I think. If you're really Japanese, I know it's tough to learn proper online English and when you're learning something new it's really easy to pick up slang or new phrases but overusing them tends to make one look like…well...childish. You claim that everyone is whining but with the incessant "lol" "u" "-in" etc. it really makes you sound like a little kid whining yourself. While many of us use it at times, it's mostly a joke pointing out how lame something really is.
You might want to consider reading other posts and taking note of the lack of valley-girl-speak and especially the "lol" because, it's really for kids. I think that's partially why people are steamed.
The other reason being you're attacking OP discussion on a OP board which...is kinda pointless. While I fully agree with your opinion that yes, people are over-analyzing the plot, so long as they realize that nothing that hasn't been expressed clearly in the manga can be considered canon is a fact, then that's cool. The discussions here are made for people to have fun with their imagination and even though I think some of it is pointless, it's a OP BBS so where else can they do it?
And dude, come on, the whole thing about Japanese people laughing about that opinion? If you're Japanese you know that isn't true. I've read the Japanese Mixi and BBS discussions for OP. They run anywhere from scary to mundane. This is 'normal' compared to what they discuss.
Not to be an asshole, just some advice.
-
I don't see Enel jumping to the moon in three days and I don't feel that the cover stories jump into the future. From what I've seen of the cover stories, they were congruent, like when the Priest from Skypeia tunneled alabasta and got it a bunch of water.
It's a matter of opinion, but based on the looks of Coby and Helmeppo I'd say more time has passed then three weeks or whatever. Weren't Coby and Helmeppo training at Marine Headquarters in the grandline? I don't see how they'd need to arrive in minutes based on where they were in the cover story so long ago.
-
Water 7's pretty close to Marine HQ you know.

the easiest way… from my experience of people claiming to speak another language... Is to write a bunch of the languages text (in this case Japanese) and ask them to translate it. A person I knew once caught someone out with random Japanese text slapped together in no real order. The result meant nothing at all, but dam, was it fun to catch the guy out!
He admitted he wasn't Japanese in the end. ;)

The Strawhat crew only was there till the partying was over and everyone recovered. It was stated to be 3 days in Episode 44, though the ammount of time is not stated in Manga #95. However in #95 they show the transition between night and day twice, referencing that they partied for two days and the crew left on the third.
So the crew was only at Arlong Park for roughly 4 days.

Then write it in our alphabet then.
Seriously, if you don't catch them out one way, tere are a dozen ways to catch them out. If language fails… Then try trivi knowledge. Eventually, you'll get them cornered. (I've got dozens of ways to catch people out).
On that note... Back on topic. Because this kind of talk is boring.
You could use the fact the characters look a little older now as evidence for a time skip... Other then that there isn't much else. Somehow, I doubt its been that long since the start of their journey.
-
Then write it in our alphabet then.
You realize he's a teacher in Japan right?

@Fire Fist:
I know a lot of Japanese people, Fire, and in general, they're polite, tolerant people. They're aggressive and proud, but don't take delight in insulting others.
I'm pretty much the same, but I've seen some gods-awful rude people on 2chan, so maybe "Fire" is from there. If so, here's something that transcends language barriers that I believe is universally understood:
"GB2 /b/"
I don't see Enel jumping to the moon in three days and I don't feel that the cover stories jump into the future. From what I've seen of the cover stories, they were congruent, like when the Priest from Skypeia tunneled alabasta and got it a bunch of water.
Coby-Helmeppo skipped around on an event that clearly took place on only one day, so I can't see how that would be considered "congruent" unless we're on Planet Namek where five minutes equals ten hours of real time. Additionally, it's been between fourteen and eighteen days since Skypiea, or a little more than two weeks; I think Ener could make it to the moon in that amount of time.
-
Seriously…. It's people like Fire that make us Japanese people look bad -___- For those of you who don't know too many Japanese people, please, please don't base your opinion of us on people like him.
Anyhow, back on topic. As it's been stated some times above, yes, Gaimon said that it's been "twenty-some" years since the "Great Pirate Era" began. I'd understand foreigners with limited Japanese backgrounds misunderstanding this phrase, because the character used for that "some" is pretty uncommon in that context… And I completely second Fire's translation of that one page, that Usopp only says that it'll take 2 years for a normal person to heal. There has been no statement thus far (to my knowledge, in the manga at least) that said anything to disprove that it's been 22 years since the execution of Gol. D. Roger.
Sorry Ramza, but your point was, although valid considering the information you had, very, very weak. I think so far the closest shot was by Sogeking D. Usopp, but it's still kinda a weak argument =\ It's really pretty impossible to decide 100% accurately how long each time skip is, you know?
-
There is a paradox.
It's very small.
But it is to date the ONLY chance for the voyage to have been more than a year. And it not since they entered GL.
Ready?
Volume 11 pg 182
That is the very first time it is said exactly how many years ago GR was executed.
Okay? So that's our base so to speak. 22 years ago is a mile-marker if you will. Stay with me. It's simple.
In Franky's past, it's revealed he is 12 at the time of Roger's execution (this is under the assumption his birthday did not fall just after the execution). We also know that Franky is currently 34. This means that Franky was twelve 22 years ago.
The important words here are currently. That means that this year (ie. now) Franky is 34 and he was still twelve when Roger was executed 22 years ago. Since Smoker said it happened 22 years ago when they were in Logue Town this means:
Since the events in Logue Town a year has not passed.
That is for all intensive purposes an indisputable fact.
Herein lies the possible gap.
Anything BEFORE Logue Town is anyone's guess.
I would say nothing whatsoever indicates it took very long. As to this point in the story, although we may estimate how long it took, unless Oda creates a story timeline, it is something we will never know.
Thus while it is indeed possible the current OP story (ie. Luffy's departure to present) took more than a year, it does not seem that way. All we know is that since Logue Town a year has NOT passed.

wow.. my jap sucks..
thanks guys for pointing out my mistake.
but well it is over now.. or is it not?My inaccurate and over-imaginative claim that the Luffy and gang stay on that island for a very long time is wrong…
Given that i did not have a lot of materials to support my claim I should not have thoughtlessly started this thread... I was tooooo keyed up when i first conceive this idea and thought that i had found something that no one else ever did.. Silly me..Well, all's well that ends well...
There was only one chap here that really needs anger management.Btw.. Can ANY tell me, where did the GrandLine map Luffy got from Buggy went to? I have never seen them use a map since they entered the GrandLine in any constructive way(other den Jaya/Sky Piea arc..)

Off the top of my head that was just a map to get to GL was it not?

とは言え…これでも結構Fireにとって誰かに日本語で書いてもらうのは難しくないような…Anyhow, back to English mode =]
In response to Ramza's new point…. Actually, in the original Japanese text, everything in Volume 3 says the "map of the Grandline," not to it. In the page 63 thing you pointed out, the original text still states the map "of" the Grandline (I'd look farther, but I'm much too lazy). I'm pretty sure the fact that there are so many routes in the Grandline and that it's not possible to navigate through without Log Posts are plot twists that Oda came up with later on, and thus don't agree with earlier points.
-
I can answer this~!!!
Since normal compasses DO NOT WORK WHILE IN THE GRAND LINE, they need Log Poses to navigate. The map could simply be for referential purposes (like an island with no other information then it's name), or it could tell you which islands are linked.
-
I was re-reading the earlier arcs a few days ago, and Buggy's map (or at least part of what Nami stole) shows the entrance to the Grand Line - Reverse Mountain. One sec, i'll search for it…
EDIT: Found it, Volume 12, Chapter 95, pages 2-4:

You're just asking for Fire to flame you again, aren't you? Lol.
HaHa.
Fire is a little boy/girl/whatever who can't use a more proper method of criticizing… It kind of showed us his maturity...
Many people here will look at his post with revulsion due to his choice of language...
Anyway lpzie, if you can't have something more constructive to say please just skip the comment...About the GrandLine Map...
So it was all along the Map of the GrandLine?!!!!!!!!
That will only mean that they have already know and heard of all the famous islands in the GrandLine!
But throughout the next few hundred chapters this map play absolutely no part in their exploration of the GrandLine! I personally feel that this was an oversight of Oda… Wait... maybe not... Maybe this map is just one of the route that a ship can take...By the way, isn't Nami's dream to draw a world map? But such a map must also show an accurate representative of the distance between islands of the GrandLine! Given that there is no other way of pinpointing their direction other than the Log Poses, how the hell can she make one?
-

That map is the one they stole from Buggy, judging from the pictures i see no indiction of the islands in the GrandLine… So what is the real deal? Is it just a map TO the GrandLine and not OF the GrandLine?
Or was it just an oversight of Oda???? -
Haha, I sorta meant to cover this in my last post, but I guess I wasn't all that clear…
The text explicitly says "the map of the Grand Line." However, judging from pictures we see (from when they talk to Gaimon and when they actually enter the Grand Line), it's clear that the map shows the intersection between the Red Line and the Grand Line - aka the entrance to the Grand Line. So yeah, everything we've seen so far shows that it's a map to the Grand Line. I'm really inclined to think that this is just a miswording on Oda's part, but, I must stress this, everything we say here is only speculation on our part, and is not by any means 100% correct. Well, there are my two cents on the subject… I s'ppose it's up for debate though.
-
So far as we know nobody has mapped GL. And if what they held was indeed a map of the islands within GL, their perplextion upon reaching islands just doesn't make sense.
Really wish I could check the tanks for proof in their original laguage but don't have them with me here.
-
Here's a better answer:
Luffy refused to work at the Baratie for a year. His first attempt at haggling was 1 week. What makes you think that he'll stay in Cocoyashi Village for TWO YEARS?
Also in response to the mapping of the GL:
People like Buggy have came and went from the Grand Line before, so what they have recorded most likely composes of a map. Needless to say its not a complete map, but then again I don't think anyone will have a complete map, due to the behavior of the Log Pose. Ships take their own routes and discover different islands. Only Eternal Poses are guaranteed shots at getting somewhere.
In addition, Buggy had the map TO the Grand Line. Zeff has a map that supposedly has his adventures on the Grand Line marked on it. Krieg wanted Zeff's map after learning his identity.
-
There is a map of the grandline islands, I'll find it for you in a bit.
EdiT:
here it is, the grand line map:
http://groups.msn.com/onepiecemangav-3/volume12.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=2347
Now speculate and calculate away on what path the Strawhats are on :smole:
-
Selph, that's not a drawn map in the series though. That's an image to help us understand.
-
You can take it that way too, but it seems pretty accurate to me.
-
-
Really. Based on what?
Sigh Well ok, I don't really base it on anything except that the map looks very appealing and detailed. But I think that if Oda would to be make an explanatory map he would make it pretty shadowy (like the schichibukai explanations, admiral explanations etc) or maybe draw it different. But when he makes a map with all the islands and the pathways that come together and at which part they do so I think he is trying to make an actual one instead of making just a fake one with mistakes.
So, assuming the map is real, here are my thoughts on it.
On the map, there are 7 paths to be followed (and they ultimately lead to Raftel):
1. 6 islands before Red Line, 9 after Red Line
2. 10 islands before Red Line, 8-9 after Red Line (hard to tell)
3. 8 islands before Red Line, 8-9 after Red Line
4. 14 islands before Red Line, 10-13 after Red Line
5. 11 islands before Red Line, 10-11 after Red Line
6. 10-11 islands before Red Line, 10 after Red Line
7. 10-11 islands before Red Line, 10 after Red LineThe Strawhats have been to seven islands in the grand line (counting Skypiea and Jaya as the same island) and have not yet encountered the Red Line. So that eliminates path 1. So, the strawhats have yet to sail between 1-7 islands until they reach the Red Line, and 9-19 islands left til they end their voyage to Raftel. Let's hope they chose path 4
__
So, what do you think? Please stay calm while typing your message.

Huh? Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it was Zeff's log book Don Krieg was after, not his map. :wassat:
Luffy then turned it down himself after being offered it, he said he wanted to make his own adventures, not relive someone else's.
-

Since they spent time floating around in the clouds, doesn't that negate the path they were on in the first place?
Or did the Vearth somehow set their Log to what would have been the same as Jaya's?
-

Well, Jaya is only the small part of the whole Jayapiea () so I guess the log would point to the bigger part of it. This should give us an idea on how strong the magnetic fields are.
-
They haven't exactly been following the log post most of the time.
Think about it:
1. Drum was found by accident. Nami was sick and because of the ingenious "plot device" Vivi couldn't read the eternal pose. So it was paralelling Luffy's conversation with Dorry.
2. Alabasta itself was found by Eternal pose. By the Log pose's reckoning, we would've ended up at nanimonai island if they had waited a year at Little Garden.
So they started on one route and went to another. Pretty simple.
-

That didn't change their path. Before they were on the path of Skypeia - which is obvious as the log post was pointing to Skypeia. Afterwards they were on the path of Skypeia as well - their log post kept pointing up while they were on the cloud level in between, so it hadn't set yet, this only happened on the piece of Vearth.
-

I do think Alabasta was on the same route as Whiskey Peak and Little Garden though. Robin offered them an eternal post to the island just before Alabasta, saying they could skip an island that way, and avoid Little Garden. In my book, that pretty much means the island before Alabasta is on the same path as Whiskey Peak - else they wouldn't skip an island but change paths altogether. Now, because Little Garden is on the same path as Whiskey Peak, and Alabasta is on the same path as the island before it, it seems obvious that Little Garden and Alabasta are on the same path as well.
I feel this and my previous post together are an indication that they are on the same path they started on - although I admit it's no solid proof.
-

Did they mention something to that end? Sorry to pound people with questions I'd otherwise be able to answer but without my tanks I have little more than memory to go on and that is not a good thing for a 43+ volume adventure.
I'd always believed the Sea Monkey's kind of sent them to LRL by coincidence. Is that the case or did it set from Skypiea?
-
I don't really remember if they said specifically that the log post set on the Vearth - maybe I'll look into it - but they did say it wasn't said before they reached Skypeia (the thing still pointing higher up and stuff), and afterwards it was set (else they'd have to return to Jaya or something to have it set on something else than Skypeia, unless you think they just stumbled upon Long Ring Island by accident). Since the log posts need to be around an island to set, I guess the island in question is the Vearth of Skypeia.
Edit: apparently, in chapter 302 (Finale) the log post has locked onto the next island.
-
Does anyone have a link to the original post on the OP timeline? Search function doesn't seem to like me…
-
Or did the Vearth somehow set their Log to what would have been the same as Jaya's?
No, that's not right. When you split a magnet, they gain their own unique polarities, so Jaya and Vearth would have different magnetic fields even though they were once the same island; it's safe to say the time needed to adapt to Jaya would have been different, since if we go by the Red Line fracture theory all the other islands have different aquire times as well.
I do think Alabasta was on the same route as Whiskey Peak and Little Garden though. Robin offered them an eternal post to the island just before Alabasta, saying they could skip an island that way, and avoid Little Garden. I agree, it's most likely Arabasta was on the same pathway as Little Garden and Whisky Peak, but Drum was a five day detour.
-

While I totally agree that's how physics really work, I'm wondering if there's a special explanation for it in the Odaverse. If so, we don't know yet right? I'm just asking because I have no tanks to check and can't remember if there was any explanation.
And I guess the biggest question is….did that mean they actually got a new course or ended up at LRL because of the Sea Monkeys?
-
has anyone consider how long it take for Enel to get to the moon? can estimate the time Enel travel to the moon and estimate the time the Mugiwaras are when their are at Enies Lobby or about to leave Enies Lobby….
a month? at that speed?
a few days? -

I guess the unique polarity was already taken into account, as the log post never pointed to Jaya, but just kept telling the crew to go up. And, well, the log post DID get set to the next island at the end of Skypeia, so I'll stick with the idea LRL was the next logical island.
-
And I don't know if it's permissable to say this without spoiler warning, but imho I'm not spoiling for anyone who is up-to-date with the manga… Does anyone else thinks the presented timeline seems a little short with recent information? I find it hard to take Coby changed that much in such short time.
-
Believe it or not but only a matter of months has gone by in this anime. every arc is like 5 days the most and a day the least. it does not take years to travel the world at the rate that they are going.
-
. And, well, the log post DID get set to the next island at the end of Skypeia
It did? This is what I've been wondering. Where did that come out? Again, sorry for asking but no tanks with me.
