@Ronin-sama:
Get off my damn ass, all I said is that taking away ALL gun owning rights is going against our freedom. Making gun laws stricter, is perfectly FINE.
Yes, I damn well believe I have a right to own a gun, not a damn AK-47, but a handgun. Do gun laws need to be more strict? Yes. Do they need to be taken away? No.
You see, Ronin, this, and the posts you made following it, was actually an improvement. Perhaps not much at all of one, but an improvement nonetheless. The thing is, there's really nothing whatsoever wrong with your stance on gun control; in fact, were I a betting type, I would be willing to wager that many of the people here, even among those that have been attacking your posts, share that same position.
It's your reasoning, or lack thereof, behind taking that stance – as well as simply how you present it -- that people take issue with. You'll notice, for example, that nobody really got on your case for saying that you would want a gun to be able to defend yourself if some stranger were to try to assault you. That's because that is actually a valid argument for being able to own a gun. Not, perhaps, as Aaron said, a particularly strong one, but it is at least a fair talking point, grounded in reality.
What you don't seem to realize is that, by trying to make things completely black-and-white, by posting with unnecessary vitriol, you are creating enemies for yourself where none would otherwise exist. As others have already said before me, your main argument seems to be that the government should not be allowed to take away guns from the public completely -- something nobody in this thread has actually tried to defend.
For that matter, I wonder if you are able to see the hypocrisy within what you have posted. You say you don't want the government taking things away from you, yet in the very same post, say you don't believe you have a right to own an AK-47. Why is it, then, that you are fine with the government 'taking' that right from you, but not others? By taking this stance, you have, however reasonably, drawn a line in the sand; you have said that there is a distinction, that this thing is okay, and that this other is not. Your very own stance, rather than black or white, is grey.
In which case, who are you to simply dismiss, off-paw, the opinion of someone else that feels the line should be drawn in a slightly different place? You are trying to act as though everyone else is arguing to close down the beach entirely (if I may be allowed to lamely extend the metaphor), which is simply not the case.
