I was thinking about whats Gear 4 going to be like. Then i was thinking that Gear 4 should be like Super Buu powers and luffy will turn in a puddle and absord someone near him. And he gain the looks and power of the person he choose.
Gear 4
-
-
This has been discussed before as a joke. There is no proof that there will even be a Gear 4.
-
Luffy will force air into his wang and make it 100 feet long and use it to crush his opponent.
-
@Fire Fist:

You been reading doujins or something?
-
@Fire Fist:

haha that's great.
I asumed he'll just add gear's 3+1 to make himself a giant
Gear five would be 3+2 o-o
me, oh well.
-
There will be no gear 4 because Luffy can't count to 4.
-
I'd like to think that "Gear 4" will be his Octopus form, since, like the gears, Luffy changes his body to make new attacks. It might be a funny sight gag.
And really, more gears wouldn't be such a bad thing. Sure, Luffy should get some mileage out of his new ones first, but they all have great possiblities–they are a little more then just power ups. Gear 2 can make Luffy hot and steamy (snicker), which could have all sort of attack and comedy possibilites.
But Gear 3 is the one with potential, there's a lot of interesting techniques Luffy can pull off by suddenly growing and shrinking at random. I'd like to see him try this at Elbaf...
Anyway, any new gears don't need to be power-ups, but at least. They could just morph Luffy's body in weird ways.
-
nah
Luffy will grow more black hair, has red eyes and a tail -
I hope there isn't a gear 4. If Luffy needs new techniques it needs to be based off of a new theory besides air doping \ manipulation.
-
Ch. 501 "Gear 4th"
(Ground stops rumbling)
Luffy: Huff,huffZoro: Nothing's different…
Sanji: No, look at his eyes! He's gonna win this!
Robin: Captain..
Nami: LUFFY!
Luffy: ...
...
Sorry, that's all.(Everyone facefaults.)
-
 I thought Luffy's stomach was making the ground rumble..
That's it! Luffy will turn his opponents into meat and eat them.
-
That'd be too much like how Buu would turn his opponents into chocolate.
-
IMO if there's ever going to be a Gear 4 i hope it won't happen too soon, he already pulled two out of nowhere. And anyway, what much is there left to do with Gear 4?
-

Yay for generalizations when it's been established that both Gears are the only upgrades that show merit.
-
He will be able to more freely control his rubber. For an examply, he will be able to stretch part of himself to make it form another foot or hand
-
I just started not completely hating Luffy's other Gears, and now people want a Gear 4? Redundency at its best.
-
my theory on if Luffy will have a Gear 4 is when he master both Gear 2 and Gear 3 …... and combining them when fighting...... or something like that....

I second that theory and would be awesome. Soru Giant= UNSTOPPABLE!

Why does anyone think that you can get new gears by adding old ones together? Have you ever heard of cars that have multiple gears? You shift from one gear to the other while driving at a certain RPM, because the gear you are on doesn't let you drive faster. It's an awesome idea to compare his fighting styles to a race car, but there's just no reason to think you can add/combine them as he wants. Think of it like shifting gears in a race.

< is going to be extremely pissed if after.. 3 months of having explained the above post, it finally catches on, because someone else posted it.

If anything gear/mechanical related, the process of Gear 2 is similar to that of a Vacuum brake that was used on trains until the mid 1860's. Gear 3 is the concept of increasing volume and thereby strengthening mass.
And of course, his fast movement is the theory of Special Relativity: E = MC^2
-
Gear 4 = Gomu Gomu no Gigantic Jet Gatling? Uhhhh… Never mind... im too tired... ^^;
-
@Fire Fist:
Gear 3 is the concept of increasing volume and thereby strengthening mass.
Well I would love to see you define "strengthening mass". :getlost: If you mean increasing volume leads to an increase in mass, then you are partially correct but on the whole very wrong. Try blowing up a balloon with air. Done? Does it feel any heavier? Well I would be surprised if you felt a difference but if you measured the mass of an air filled balloon on an electronic scale, the difference would be a very small increase due to the fact that air molecule has a small mass.
Since mass doesn't change much whether you inflate it with air or not, if a balloon is thrown with a constant speed its momentum can be assumed to be constant. Still not satisfied and think an inflated balloon can do insane damage like Luffy's Giant Pistol? Just ask a friend to throw an inflated balloon at you and feel the pain.
@Fire Fist:
And of course, his fast movement is the theory of Special Relativity: E = MC^2
No, no, no! Special relativity is only noticeable at speed approaching the speed of light, something Luffy has not managed to achieve. It be great if you can explain how the famous "Mass is a form of energy" formula could be use to explain Luffy's speed too.
In short, don't apply real world physics into the world of manga. Don't ask me how Luffy managed to do so much damage with his giant Gear 3 fist when in real world physical theory there shouldn't be any increase in momentum. Just accept it as shounen logic (Odaverse) and distant it from the high school physics you've been reading about.
I think "Fire Fist" Ace is indeed "Thinking too Much…" when he should keep things simple.
-
Here's my prediction for gear 4, if there ever is one. Luffy's arms and legs will coil like a spring, almost like bellamy.
-
I was thinking about whats Gear 4 going to be like. Then i was thinking that Gear 4 should be like Super Buu powers and luffy will turn in a puddle and absord someone near him. And he gain the looks and power of the person he choose.
are you honestly being serious?
-
Yes, i'm serious
-
I wouldn't go on reading One Piece if Oda-Sensei draws Luffy using Gear 4.
In spite of everything i think Gear 4 would be a mix up of Gear 2 and 3.
-
If there ever comes a time when:
a) Luffy's "regular powers" (which are already extreme) aren't good enough to defeat an enemy,
b) enhancing each move with super strength/speed (gear 2) isn't enough,
c) a giant overwhelmingly powerful set of attacks isn't good enough,
…there's probably something about the enemy that prevents pure brute force from working on him/her, (ie. a devil fruit.)
I think at least 60% of people I've heard talk about Luffy underestimate him. His regular form is monstrous, but he hasn't even started maxing out his new gears.
-
-
Hahaha, I'm getting a kick out of people comparing Luffy to Buu when I did the same in the inspiration thread for Gear 2nd=Majin Buu due to the steam.
-
Gear 4 would have to consist of Luffy firing some sort of beam, since Chopper's Brain Point was such a let down.
-

Well that's pretty easy. A big fist or big foot (oh, how punny actually…) does more damage simply because it's BIG! How could it do the same damage!
It's just like a BIG gun makes larger holes, even if it's just a standard model with standard ammunition and the only difference is the ridiculously long shaft (See 1st. Batman Movie, Joker destroying the Batwing with such a weapon)! A ridiculously long and big badass shaft that makes ridiculously big badass holes! I mean, that's pure logic! XDDDD
I think "Fire Fist" Ace is indeed "Thinking too Much…"
when he should keep things simple.O Rly? >D
-
Obviously for Gear 4 he'll use his powers to strectch his body into a hot naked girl and will defeat every hot male pervert everywhere!
-
I think gear 4 being a mixture of gear 2 and 3 too predictable….I hope Oda doesn't do that.
-
gear 4=luffy's hair will turn purple
-
lol, technically by the explainations about gear 2 and gear 3. He could combine them if he tried hard enough.
Accelerate his blood flow than blow air in his bone. It is not impossible as people make it out to be and this is a fiction manga at that.
-
The strenght of Gear 2 is different according to how many strenght puts Luffy in the pumping.
Gear 4 doesn´ t exist, but Gear 2 Turbo (Gear 2 in middle of Gear 2) yes.
-
You know, before Gear 2 came around, I was thinking of this concept for Gears as a modern version of dials. There would be an optical gear (works like mantra), a charge gear (Something like a cross between a jet dial and soru), force gear (Reject X 10, without a lot less recoil), Burn gear (Super flame dial), Ice gear (Similar to Hie Hie no Mi), etc, etc.
But alas, it was never meant to be.
In any case, I thought about it. Here's my pitch for Gear 4:
1. Luffy bites on the main vein in the arm (forget the name) and forces air into his bloodstream.
2. Fluidly moving his body, he guides the air into his heart.
3. Using the air as a pump, his heartbeat increases rapidly.
4. The rapid heartbeat releases endorphins and adrenaline, putting Luffy into a beserker-like state.
5. In this berserker-like state, not only is his speed and strength enhanced, but all of his senses, including sight, hearing, touch, even taste and smell are enhanced.
Drawback? It knocks him out after use. And he can't use it for quite a while after using it, because repeated strain on his heart would cause it to burst.

So you think it has to be like shifting gears in a car just because they are called "gears"? Come on.
And to those who hate the concept of power-up gears.. I think Oda handled it really well actually. It's not like some hidden Saiyan-like power that came out of nowhere, but it's in the spirit of how all Luffy fights have gone. Like all the stuff he pulled against Enel, he could easily have called one of them "level 2" or whatever, would be the same thing.
Oda just seems to have added more standard shounen stuff into one piece, like bigger boobs on the girls, doukiri strength levels, and also, naming some Luffy attacks gear 2 and gear 3. These things don't change the content of one piece however.
-
Gear 4 is Gear 2 mixed with the after affect of gear 3
chibi luffy moving extremely fast and cant ever get hit
-
I think Chibi Luffy will be another aftereffect of Gear 4…with the duration of getting back to normal even longer.....
-
I think, if there is a gear 4, it might BE a chibi luffy. I was thinking he condenses himself so that he's super tight rubber, making him stronger. For limiters it means he's got to go without breathing or he'll reinflate.
-
The only fourth gear I can think of would be a sort of elemental-form of heated, near-liquid rubber. Luffy could then control this in ways similar to how Crocodile moved with the sand and kept himself unharmed, ie. inflate "rubber extensions" and shape them like his body, at will. If it's cut into pieces with an enemy attack, no problem, just reform it elsewhere. But then again, this thought is the sort of tired idea that copies all those cool elemental fruits without adding anything inventive.

(Searched 'Gear 4' and 'Gear Four'. Got nothing.)
If Oda decides to make one, what do you think it'll be based on? For example, Gear 2 was based on speed, Gear 3 on strength.
My opinion is that it'll be a bit like Rock Lee's Drunken Fist from Naruto- Luffy gets much faster and becomes extremely unpredictable, like a cross between Gomu Gomu no Buh and Gear 2.
Thoughts?

Erm… did you search at all?

Erm… did you search at all?
(Sorry about that, I really need to use the search function more thoroughly.)
Anyway, as it seems Jimnei may be the next major villain, I hope to see Luffy unleash Gear Four (if there is one) on him.
But then again, the Fishman Island's supposed to be underwater, so how's Luffy going to fight? Maybe he doesn't, and Sanji/Zoro/Usopp fight the bad guy instead?
-
Gear 69.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH yeah
-
-
I don't think there will be a Gear 4. I mean… what would be blow on? (Insert subliminal message here)
Anyway, adding another Gear would make the whole Gear thing a total rip off of Super Saiyan. And I'm fairly certain Luffy will maybe use a underwater suit or something to visit Fishmen isle, simlar to how he dove underwater to salvage a ship (Episode 152 I think).

i'm really gonna make the search tutorial soon.
