OK, I know you've probably heard it from a lot of people, but I just don't think its right that Oda has a hard time killing...well, anyone! Paulie saved everyone from falling in that chasm (as we sort of expected, but I guess I wanted some sort of sacrifice...)...and the miraculous return of the Going Merry...well OK, I know its supposed to be "miraculous" like the rain of Alabasta or Luffy ringing the golden bell and appearing in the sky, but...somehow it just felt a bit "too" convenient! No, I'm not saying Oda lost it and I guess he's trying to make a point here, but it just feels like everything has gotten "too" convenient!
On the other hand, I did like the final cries to Luffy as he was laying on the bridge, ready to be blasted by the Buster Call. Not to mention we now know our 9th mini-arc star...though now Eneru has made it to the moon, what the heck will he find there!?

Now that all of the strawhats "boarded" merry and the marines can't bomb it without killing robin we can have a hot pursuit like in the anime opening^^

Would the series really be improved by the killing off of minor characters? I've got to admit, I wouldn't really feel any emotional impact from the Franky family dying and I don't want any main characters to die, so really its fine like it is as far as I'm concerned. I still think that Going Merry will probably be replaced at this point though and that this is probably the start of more serious themes with plot points that will go straight to the heart of the series' eventual resolution.

Oh, and may I go ahead and kindly suggest that the whining about the Going Merry be kept to a minimum till next week? Yes, it's unbelievably wierd that it came up, but let's give Oda time to explain himself for bashing, mmkay?

I admit the front of that one ship had that pole which threw me but then I got to thinking.

We all knew deep down that Paulie would save everyone from the buster call, but Merry coming back?!? NOBODY saw that one coming. we'll find out next week HOW she got there, and hopefully we'll find out over the next few weeks if she'll be "repaired" or if she'll die. But now, since we ALL know Oda can't kill off main characters (and I guess Merry is a character!) we'll have to wait and see.

I'm not bloodthirsty and I probably knew that all of those Gallery-La/Franky Family members would be saved deep inside. I just thought from the previous depiction of the Buster Call that no one was safe, whether it be pirate, civilian or anyone not a marine working for the fleet. The idea of seeing casualties, particularly of people we got attached to, would make the sacrifices of the arc more impacting.

I do see Merry most likely dying after this, though. If, as somewhere suggested, they take over a BC ship, the Merry might go down soon after that, or, possibly, it make take them back towards Water 7, but perhaps sink before getting there (which would be oddly humourous and kinda sad at the same time; true OP fashion Xp ).

I always thought the power of the Buster Call was exaggerated because of the trauma it inflicted on 8 year old Robin. 5 warships and 10 battleships (or is it the other way around) isn't a force that superhuman powers like Luffy, Zoro, etc can't deal with. The real threat would not be from the ships and their bombardment, but from the powerful officers that they might carry. However, since those officers are either not attacking or else focusing on the Strawhats it isn't surprising that the Franky Family would be able to survive.
