I'd say at least as fast as the speed of light. They could be even faster tho.

it's crazy how much time i spent in front of my pc thinking for an answer. and that's because it's like asking how old was jesus. so my answer is:

          88MPH.

            Wouldn't Jesus be 33 + our year?

The DBZ question is hard, though. Simply because there were so many bullshit layers. By the 23rd tournament Goku was too fast for even Tenshinhan's eyes. And then they had literally gotten a million times more powerful. It's funny that Goku even came with that teleportation bullshit.

DBZ is too rediculous for reality to comprehend. Just view it as pure entertainment.

Fast? Thats my question… Well... No but... Well when you think, it's all about the power level thingy. Thinking that normal farmer in DBZ has the power level of 2, or so I remember it. The that means if Goku has the power of 400 and something at the start of DBZ, hes about 400 times faster than normal human person. Then about the end of Frieza saga, Goku reaches SS form, thats OVER 10 million PL. So hes about 10 million times faster than normal person. Then think it to the end of DBZ... the powel level is... hmm tough its not offical its some thing about this: 500.000.000 so 500 million... So its GREATLY over the speed of light. Yeah, or so I think.

I'd like to think that they're as fast as flies. You know, unless you're careful, they disappear from you're sight.

They are definatley not as fast as you say. but like others have said, they are extremley fast and it's hard to tell exactly how fast they move.

goku could probably go back in time by spinning the whole universe against it's axis.

Has Toriyama ever stated anything about the DBZ characters strength and speed? Also, is that whole spinning earth against its axis to go back in time true, can time travel happen like that?

i honestly hope you're not serious. I'm no physician but spinning the earth around it's axis is a device used in superman to stop three bombs and one thing should be clear: if he can fly fast enough to circle around the earth that many times he can also catch the bombs instantly.

Now, about time travel: i'll assume time is the same in the whole universe (except for black holes, maybe). why spinning the earth against it's axis would make time go backwards?

Yeah, that's what I asked the question, but I was talking about in real life, not DBZ. I was wondering if that type of time travel is possible in real life (not good at science), anyways, trying to apply real world science to an anime will only end in failure. I mean scientifically, Croc should've been mud when Luffy hit him with water.

Going against the earth's axis at high speed would do nothing, as the earth is just moving along with the rest of the universe.

In short, time travel by that method is completely illogical

Not to mention in that Superman movie he spun it back then respun it forward so arrcording to the Movie logic it'd go right back to where it was

I'm glad I don't care for Superman because the guy is lame character. I hate characters with 100 million abilties who are perfect, takes the fun out of the character.

Anyways, maybe Toriyama will clarify how fast and strong the DBZ characters are someday.
