@Aethos:
But in the case of most other series except Takahashi sereis I tend to feel that the Tsundere does deserve love. I don't really see how Moe's are more deserving. Sure Tsundere characters are overly jealous and violent but that just makes the relationship more interesting when they get together in the end.
I mean heck the Naru x Keitarou relationship alone was one you just wanted to see happen no matter how many times she punched him through the ceiling… and let's face it the male character is never totally innocent either. Most of the time he's pretty deserving of being bashed over the head while the Moe character is just far too soft. Even in Takahashi series this is evidant although I feel the girls in those series take it a little far such as Kagome's case. The fact that she needs to use the rosary bug's me to no end or in Akane's case how she attacks Ranma when he didn't even do anything.
Well, we're generalizing; I reserve the right to like/dislike a tsundere character not only based on their attributes, but their moé counterpart. In LH, Shinobu was the only real moé character while Naru and Motoko were tsundere; in comparison, though Shinobu honestly did like Keitaro, I think Naru/Motoko's feelings in their "dere dere" forms clearly surpassed her own.
In something like N-, we have Sakura who is just disgustingly abusive to Naruto, while Hinata goes beyond being sincere/attractive/empathetic and actually fights in honor of Naruto and gives him aid whenever she can. For such a case, I'm clearly biased more toward Hinata, who outsteps her traditional moé background with an absolutely tragic history. Most moé have unsatisfying biographies but so far Rei and Hinata (in my mind) have it pretty bad.
I think one of the appeals to tsundere is that they've suffered and therefore must lash out at whoever they can as a repression of their pain. However, when this pain is relatively minor (such is the case with ZnK's Louise) and their actions are not representative of said pain (id est, Asuka was understandable), I dislike the character, especially when there is an appealing moé offered as a contrast.
This is why I'm not as hard on Asuka as maybe I should; her past and the suffering she went through as an Eva pilot were far worse than Rei, who isn't exactly human and dies at one point, only to be replaced. She's incongruent and therefore cannot offer a credible foundation for supplanting Shinji's affection. Misato was more of a fetish than anything else, and there wasn't really too much chemistry between Shinji and herself. Misato recognized that Shinji was attracted even if Shinji did not allow himself to recognize it; a relationship isn't a one-way infatuation, it's a call and response social interaction. So, naturally, Asuka was really the only viable option for Shinji (in my mind).
For something like, oh, Negima!, Asuna Kagurazaka is NOT the character I want Negi to "shack up with" (~uuuuhhhh!!!~) since, though dedicated to Negi, there are other equally prospective candidates, both moé and tsundere who could snatch him up. I'm an Anya fan, really. ;)
