Can pirates have a life without being chased by the marine? In the Kuro arc it seemed that once a person is wanted, he never can go back to normal life.

But what about Zeff? His life as a pirate did not really seem to be a secret. And he seemed to be a pirate who robbed money and jewelry. I suppose he started his business with the stolen money. But why does the marine not try to arrest him?

Does that mean that even the others could get some business and live without problems with the marine and the government?

Im not sure but i think the marines know that he is not a threat anymore so why bother and chase him. as for kuro he wanted to stop being a captian but he remained at sea, which made him cross paths with marines.

We don't know if Zeff even had a bounty on him to begin with. As such, it wouldn't at all be hard for him to take the money he had and set up a restaurant. Especially considering he was probably thought dead after the storm that destroyed his entire ship.

You know whatÂ´s even more weird? The fact that he stopped being a pirate after he lost his leg. I mean itÂ´s not as if he would have been the first pirate with a woodden leg (Long John Silver anyone?). OK his greatest power was his kick but even though it doesnÂ´t seem very pirate like to retire just because you lost one of your body parts.

Maybe afterwards he just wanted to focus on his dream.

I doubt that he wouldn't have a bounty. After all, Krieg seemed amazed to meet him. The way Oda is, the Marines probably went to arrest him, but fell in love with his divine cooking and forgave him.

zeff probably had immunity since he owns the best resturaunt ever

Zeff wasn't particulary bloodthirsty and he had a clear sense of honor, always leaving raided ship's food stores intact for instance. If he seemed sincerely willing to give up piracy and go legit, I think the Marines would be a lot more inclined to pardon him than someone like Kuro who was known as a devious, backstabbing weasel.

It wasn't the loss of his leg that ended Zeff's career, it was the loss of his crew. Even if they didn't share his belief that All Blue exists, they were still his friends and continuing on as a pirate without them just didn't appeal to him.

Most likely, pirates can only retire if the Marines think they are dead as there doesn't seem to be a statute of limitations on acts of piracy. Look at Dorry and Broggy for instance; they've been out of the pirating business for decades and still have an active bounty on them.

Well in the real world, there were a number of pirates who were able to retire and lead generally peaceful and successful lives to a ripe old age.
Not a big number, though.

Blackbeard (the historical one) actually took a pardon and retired to North Carolina for a while. But he didn't like it much, and went back to piratin'.

But that would mean that getting a bounty would not be anything final for Zoro, Nami and the others. They could always go back to have another life as a renown scholar, pirate hunter or whatever IF they choose/have to leave Luffy ?

I think it was not so much loosing his leg but the experience he went through. Starving for weeks/months does change one's priorities. It must be worse if you have to eat your own leg.

Actually, it was not uncommon for injured pirates to become sea cooks. Even Long John Silver (Who had a crutch, by the way, not a wooden leg) was posing as a cook.

Sorry but I disagree here. No mater if he is an honorable man or not he is a pirate. Luffy is also a very honorable man and he is wanted. And other then ZeffÂ´s pirates the Straw HatÂ´s never robbed as ship so far. Besides weÂ´ve never seen a wanted list of Shanks or Whitebeard but we can be sure that they exist. I think same goes for Zeff.

I don't think you entirely got the point, Ivotas…. I think Sakurai was trying to say that because Zeff was a reasonably honourable pirate, and also seeing how he lost his entire ship, crew and leg, that it was far easier for the Marines to give him a formal pardon and let him set up a restaurant than for reknown vicious and violent pirates such as Krieg or Kuro.

Oh I do get the point. You just donÂ´t get the point that it is just my personal opinion that I donÂ´t think that the marine would be giving him a formal pardon. Even if he wasnÂ´t as much an evil person as Kuro or Krieg he still was one. No matter what body part he lost it would not take that fact away. I just donÂ´t see any marine officer who would consider taking Zeff of the wanted list, especially since thereÂ´s a lot of bastards in the marine itself.

To me it is more likely that they where so blind to ignore that this fat one legged guy would be the famous Red Legged Zeff. Especially since his entire crew disappeared years ago. Just my opinion.

Maybe Full Body San protected him because it was a great place to impress chicks.
