USA Weekend had an interview with Al Jean, the Exec producer, and what I read killed me.
"Will there ever be a Simpsons movie?"
"We've just started- nine writers from our staff plus executive producer Jim Brooks and Groening. Its heading for a 2007 release and all original actors are there"
My god they've killed the Simpsons. Why!!!!

The Simpsons have been dying for the last couple of seasons.
-
The simpsons arent that funny anymore
-
The last funny episode was when Marge called in the Amish. Then it died. Probably died before that too. Still this ruined the series.

My god they've killed the Simpsons. Why!!!!Why would that be? Because they're making a movie which they said they'd one day make as early as 1992 when I ordered a Simpsons newsletter from my elementary school's Weekly Reader? If they're dead because they're planning to make a movie, they were never alive in the first place.
-
i wih they'd put them to rest already and continue with Futurama
-
…I still like the Simpsons...Am I the only one that still thinks it's funny?
-
I thought last weeks show was the funniest episode they've had in nearly two seasons. The Super Mario skit and the Mr. & Ms Pac-man wedding were awesome.
I was pretty dissapointed with American Dad, the new animation from Seth MacFarlane. Seemed more like a repackaged Family Guy, but less funnier.
-
Yeah that Super Bowl episode was damn good. But I agree the quality has gone down.
On the plus side South Park only gets better.
-
Hell, a Simpsons movie. OVERKILL!!! The Simpsons have been dead for the past 3 or 4 years. Just let them rest in peace. The Simpsons should've ended instead of Futurama. Futurama's hilarious, but gets no love
(except from the good people at Adult Swim), while the Simpsons aren't even funny anymore and they're getting such high ratings. <_<
The only people that actually watch and like the Simpsons now are brainless 10-year-olds that laugh uncontrollably when Homer says ass or hell.

I think it's safe to say that you are one of the few people on the planet to think that way. >_>
It's kinda sad to see one of the most clever TV shows ever, IMO, reduced to what it's been lately. =( If anything is funny in the Simpsons anymore, it's only because it's so incredibly stupid that it's kinda humorous… But when the Simpsons was actually good, it was funny because it was clever. =/
If they make a movie, I'm pretty sure it'll be awful, but I bet I'd end up seeing it anyway just to reaffirm my suspicions. ;(
-
Iâ€
ve stopped watching The Simpsons… I did like Futurama…
The Simpsons died for me about 3 years ago… I think it was around the episode where Homer slices off his thumb.. that was when their storylines started to get more random, and not in a good way. For example, an episode would start with Bart and Lisa finding a puppy, and the rest of the episode would be about that comic guy, but it would end with a Day in the Life of the comic guyâ€s motherâ€
s sisterâ€
s grandfather… >_<…
-
I wish I was Dr. Kevorkian so I could euthanise the Simpsons.
The Simpsons have been going down hill like season 9 or so. I'll point out some of the recurring reasons why it sucks:
-
They made Homer legally retarded. Before, it was funny because he was stupid in a subtle way, like letting Bart play with knives or something. But over hte past few years it's been like "HEY MARGE I JUST SWALLOWED A RAKE."
-
Celebrity appearances every episode.
-
They used to have wittier humor, bashing the stupidies of modern culture. Now they glorify the stupidity of modern pop culture.
The sad thing is that I bet Matt Groening really wants to quit on the series, but FOX has them all by the balls. I can tell with each episode the the people working on it don't really care that much anymore.
I hate FOX. They prematurely killed Matt Groening real masterpiece, Futuruama, by constantly putting it in bad time slots and pre-empting it with sports events. The funniest thing was how much Futurama florished when Adult Swim got it, I think for a time it was the highest rated late night TV show for young adults-adults.

**lol yea. that was a great moment. American dad wasn't that bad… lol Roger and the 19 year old dog. But Family Guy is coming back with new episodes so thats gotta be good!
-
Well yeah the Superbowl episode was funny but American Dad was awsome!
"We're now on terror alert orange, which means something may go down"
Great stuff. Its on again tonight on Cartoon Network after Family Guy. Im gonna see it again. -
I don't care what you all say, The Simpsons is still the best show on tv. I mean Christ, they're on their 15th season!!! So yeah, the episodes have gone sorta down, but shit. If you're on tv for 15 seasons you can't be expected to have every season be gold. And believe it or not, if you re-watch episodes that seem like crap the first time, you realize how many jokes you missed the first time around.
And here's a little tidbit about the movie. It's going to be the "last episode". What they're doing is this: They signed on to go up to 20 seasons. When that's over, the movie will be the end of the series.
And if its already being written, it gives you an idea of how good it's gonna be.Oh, and American Dad was okay. Like someone mentioned, its like watered down Family Guy. I seriously hope Seth doesn't waste material that would be awesome in Family Guy on American Dad.
Randomly: Best thing about the Superbowl Simpsons: Comic Book Guy's real name. Jeff Albertson. I nearly shit my pants.

I know, I was watching the Super Bowl episode and when Comic Book Guy said his name, I said "HOLY SHIT! THEY GAVE HIM A NAME!"
And I still watch the Simpsons, it's not as good as the legendary stuff written by Conan O' Brien, John Swartzwielder, or Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein, but it's still better than most of the shit FOX puts on the TV.
And American Dad was awesome, it helps if you don't compare it to Family Guy.
-
American Dad looks hilarious, but I haven't seen it yet. I refuse to watch it on FOX.

**Well said.
And the same thing you said about Futurama can be said of Family Guy. =/ Fox just doesn't know a good show when they have it. But, with shows like American Idol, who needs good shows!?!?! -_-;;

I honestly think that if they brought in some new writers (ones who were actually FUNNY for a change) the Simpsons could keep going on for a good while and still be relatively enjoyable. I'm especially convinced of this because I watched an episode of Actor's Studio where the six main VAs were the guests - and it was unrehearsed, non-primetime-garbage, sheer hilarity.
Hell, maybe they should just let the VAs write the scripts. They're the ones who know the characters best, after all.

The guy who does the voice of Homer (and a shit load of other characters) and his wife wrote the script to the episode where Barney quits drinking and becomes a helicopter pilot. Does that do anything for you?

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Yep, Family Guy, Futurama, and Greg the Bunny were all hilarious. But treated like shit. Hopefully, FG will get better treatment this time around. And this is just a rumor, but I heard some Fox writers were looking at scripts for un-made Futurama episodes. Hm, I can only wonder what for.

That episode was actually pretty funny.

The movie is old news.
Matt Groening has acknowledged that the movie will either bring new life to the series, or kill it. -
I appreciate The Simpsons for what it is, a freaking great show. Always has been, always will be. I agree with all the points mentioned by The Dude. The Simpsons is still the best show on TV.
I still love The Simpsons.
and nothing is going to change that.
-
meh i was never really into simpsons
family guy is better
and south park is better better -
the simpsons where awsom when they started and they stayed that way for a very long time. they are still funny at times but not in the same way. really to me its like they are trying too hard now to be funny and they have run out of ideas for stoies. but it is still fun to watch and i enjoy it. but im not very dissapointed when i miss an episode
-
Simpsons used to be awesome in its glory days a few years ago….
The only episode I liked was when Marge got robbed and she became a muscle woman.
Homer wincing as he walks after a night with Marge is too funny!!!! -
The Simpsons are still the Simpsons!! For me that lazy bum of Homer will always crack me up!! Love the Simpsons
-
Remember when Homer used his Tetris skills to get everyone into the car?
That was really funny! -
Ah, the Simpsons. They're not what they used to be these days. Sometimes the first few eps of a new season will be good to watch though. I think the Simpsons died for me when I joined one of those simpsons newsgroups. Those guys can make even the funniest episode look like crap…
-
I hated Greg the Bunny, I was glad that got canned.
I saw American Dad last night… freakin' hilarious.
-

**Why are there so many Greg the Bunny haters. That show was hilarious.
American Dad was good, but can't compare to Family Guy.
-
Greg the Bunny was just generic toilet humor. I think I only laughed once of twice when watching it. The only funny character was Count Blah.
How would you know American Dad can't compare to Family Guy? We've only seen one episode, the pilot, and pilots tend to have toned down humor. Plus, they're two totally different series, and constantly comparing it to Family Guy just because Macfarlane is working on it is kinda dumb.
-
Only the old ones are funny. Now they try too hard to make it funny.
-
wow. super-ultra necro-post. So….what does everyone think of American Dad now?
-
American Dad is….meh. There are a few jokes here and there that are funny. I like the alien because he's basically Paul Lynde.
But it lacks Family Guy's charm. And it just seems like a total clone.
-
I have to agree with some previous posters. Seth Macfarlane has taken the title of funniest cartoon from simpsons. Simpsons had it's time in the spotlight but now it's time to step down.I would have to say that in a race for funniest american cartoons. It's a dead heat between Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Family Guy. American Dad's allright but it dosent really compare, and Futurama stopped being funny about the 127th time through. Aqua Teen and Family Guy are where it's at. They're also planning an Aqua Teen and a Family Guy movie later too, so does that mean they're both dead too?
-
I admit that Family Guy is funnier than Futurama, but I think that Futurama is a much better show.
-
It's a pity Futurama was canned. Bender kicked ass.
-
Yeah, I know. My favorite charachters in american comedy toons are the assholes like Bender , Carl (Aqua Teen), and Stewie (Family Guy). They're just the biggest pricks to people and treat them like shit but its funny as hell. God bless those animated assholes…god bless em'.
-
I agree with what FunkmasterCarter said. I used to love the Simpsons, but I haven't liked it for years now.
The one thing that I saw more recently that I did think was very funny was the "Behind the Laughter" episode.
-
I only laughed at the Simpsons once in the last several years (not funny anymore
). It was when Homer told a preacher that his secret method to winning bingo was to cheat (I don't know why I thought it was funny. It just was.).
-
I really wish that they had stopped making episode a loooong time ago. After season 10…It all fell into a slump , and it really didn't interest me. Considering the fact that nobody says the old catch phrases Ex) Doh! , Ay Carumba! Don't have a cow man, Eat my shorts ETC.. I guess they didn't think that they would keep up, but they were going to because a vast majority of the catch phrases made the episode. Now they have everyone doing some stupid "Dauuuuhh" noise while tugging on their shirt collar. Let me see....
NOT FUNNY!

I'm sorry but that was funny.
But seriously I think the Simpsons has been going downhill for the past few seasons, but I still have hope that it'll get better.
Futurama and Family Guy are better though in my opinion.

A Minute With Stan Hooper… damn you Fox...
They better not screw over Arrested Development <_< .

^It hasn't been cancelled. Its going to be on Mondays. Let's hope nothing happens to it…
