Dear god. Okay, so the movie designs were leaked a bit.
First thought: Wow, they really come apart all over the place, don't they?
So, these are definately not G1 Transformers. But I dunno … I don't feel too bad about it. With all the homages we've got over the last few YEARS I'm almost sick of purely G1 stuff. Change is good. But what about THIS change? Well...
Blackout
I like this guy. He looks pretty badass. Plus there's no G1 stigma over him. So his being different is good.
Prime
The picture is really small and it has that obnoxious watermark over it. I dunno ... so much hinges on his face and Prime Hat. He looks like he has a Prime hat tho. I dunno. Still up in the air until I see a clearer pic.
Scorponok
Scorps is one character I was never into, so if he doesn't look like his G1 persona, I don't care. So far his Beast Mode is awsome.
Starscream
Okay .... that's not Starscream. The design itself is okay, but ..... he looks nothing like Starscream in any way. Okay, he has a cockpit where G1 Screamer does. That's it.
When doing something like this .... it's always a double-edged sword. On the one hand you want what you loved about the franchise to be in there. On the other, if it's too similar it fades out.
In the end: I'm reading alot of flack about this on TF sites. People wanna BOYCOTT the movie and toyline! But .... why? It isn't even OUT yet.
I dunno if I'm crazy over this new style. The last time they did a dramatically new style was in Beast machiines .... and I hate alot of those designs. But I've had alot of G1. There are G1 comics, new G1 themes toylines, G1 themed characters, Unicron GALORE .... Hell Starscream's getting TWO great G1-based toys - Masterpeice and Classic Starscream.
So, I'll wait this out. They have Peter Cullen (the original Prime) reprising his role. They have Welker (G1 Megs) in auditions. And it's really those voices that gave life to the characters. And Spielerg is on as well. I may be a little feafrul of all this wierd chartacter designs, but I don't think I'll go on a rampage just yet.
-Note I think this is a little important to be merged with the thread already out just yet. Because it is the toys...Probably weak logic.
