I do see where Quexinos is coming from, if there's enough fan-demand… And the company sees the potential (and money) they could get, they'll act upon it.
Family Guy was actually cancalled, but the fan-demand and DVD sales actually resurrected the show.
and Futurama is coming back too. And Ren and Stimpy made a comeback though Im not really sure if that was about fan demand or not. That new Ren and Stimpy really didn't do so hot anyway =/

See, Sailor Moon was doing really bad on CN, so it was cancaled like any other show that does bad.
It's true that One Piece didn't become the giant it is in Japan, and the merchandice didn't really sell well. However, it does perform well on CN, and that's one of the reasons the channel still wants it. As opposed to Sailor Moon, which wasn't turning in ratings anymore.

I agree that with the new dub and more promotion One Piece will get more viewers. I watch the Toonami block. I normally watch Naruto, MAR, and the Prince of Tennis. I know that many watch Bobo but I normally don't catch that one. I had been watching Zatch Bell but that one is not on now.
Well anyway I would watch One Piece too but I think that the 4Kids dub is not in the spirit of the show. I believe that the 4Kids dub does not fit with the other dubs that have thier original music and like Naruto now have the Japanese OP. I believe that with a new dub One Piece is going to be able to get the attention of those who are watching the Toonami block even more.
Lets just say this it is very hard for me to go from watching Naruto with good dialogue and background music to the 4Kids One Piece with the massive pun dialogue and terrible music. It is one reason that it is not doing as well as it should.
I believe that when people see Jaya as it should be One Piece will get more fans and maybe from the Naruto fan base. It could happen. I mean I am just glad that 4Kids never got to touch the bar scene with Luffy, Zoro, and Nami. It is to me one of the best scenes in the whole series. So I think that the new dub will get more people to see One Piece.

Looking at the second Luffy vs. Arlong clip again, I realize that it's so condensed it's like watching an episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! The Abridged Series, except it's not funny.

However that is why I don't always visited this thread and rarly posted due to endless rents and whining. But I did hoped for One Piece to get re-licensed by FUNI. That was why I did not watch the dub very much due to countless of stupid edits, I mean why did 4kids replaced the battered BW agent Sanji beated up with Chopper? The episode with Zoro and Kuina pissed me off, The epsiode where 4kids had Kaya struggling with Jango's chakram made me double-pissed.
Now because Funimation is dubbing this, I will be very happy reading the new Funimation Dub Discussion thread without hearing endless bitching.

By the way, I know someone brought up merchandise earlier. And I have to say I really hope Funimation can bring in some great OP merchandise like shirts and tote bags which they're generally good at getting made for their series. This because I went to a shopping mall recently and went inside an Anime Import store and I cried a little on the inside when there was so much Bleach and Naruto stuff and the only OP stuff was dub DVDs and the Viz manga (I had previously gone to another store that actually had more stuff straight from Japan and had quite a healthy selection of OP stuff)
I really didn't have a problem with the dub until the Arlong arc. That's when they started messing up. Up til the Arlong arc, their adaptations were almost the same as Viz's manga release. They started adding all their little puns in the Whiskey Peak arc. Alabasta was the most tiresome arc to ever air. Instead of doing a fairly adaptation of one of my favorite arcs, they turned it into a buncha pun filled pieces of crap.
I really didn't have a problem with the dub until the Arlong arc.

Baratie was probably the worst of them all Imo. Sure edit wise it wasn't as bad as arlong, but damn the acting was just so bad.

The first time I started having any real problems with the dub was… the rap opening, for one. It pissed me off more than anything that 4Kids lied about how they were going to treat the series, and I think they owe it to the fans to just say "Okay, we're going to re-do the music and we'll have edited DVDs." The fan base is still pissed, but if they're honest about it, it's not going to be like "Oh yeah, near-uncut dub with original music and good voices SUCKA PUNCH." To be fair though, there's a certain level of accuracy in the first three episodes that doesn't carry over to the rest of the series, so I'm guessing that they were going to keep to their word, but someone screwed it up at the last minute. But it's best not to dwell.
Beyond that, when they started splicing episodes in the Kuro arc and also when they started giving the characters stupid voices, beginning with Usopp. Going further... The stupid "chakram will turn on you" thing, Kuina's death being censored, Sanji's voice, Bellemere's death being censored, more snip snip and ESPECIALLY splicing all of the episodes in Arlong so they could GET TO DA CHOPPA, Fantastic Voyage! was terrible, no Little Garden, playing down Hiriluk's death, the upside-down hook thing, and just destroying any impact that the conclusion to Alabaster should have had.
The stupid hammer gun, name changing, lollipop, etc. crap doesn't matter to me. What they did to the show goes far beyond "OMGEESH GUYSH THEY CHANGED HIS NAME BY ONE LETTER."

The dubbed Mr. 3 scene really takes me back in time when we complained about 4Kids doing a horrible job with that.

But here's the thing. Any effort was futile. Nothing depended on what was done by fans. It was all by the same balding asswipes in suits interested in what to make the next big craze.
The people you see at conventions hyping crowds and in the YouTube video are hired because they love Japanese animation and can talk to the fans about it….but they're not the ones making the big choices.
As to whether or not it would never change, it did. Which is nice I suppose, but regardless, none of it is a direct result of any action by fans. It's a result of number crunching.

Wow, I noticed that while I've been away, quite a few negative comments have popped up about the Luffy vs. Arlong clips!
To be honest, I feel pretty bad for requesting the clips. On one hand, I feel bad that some of you had to re-endure the absolute WORST OF THE WORST 4Kids had to offer (that 'Fantastic Voyage' episode ain't got SHIT on the Arlong arc)! On the other hand, I kinda wish that more people saw this back when the dub was still active (preferably when it was still on 4Kids TV), because it would've served as the PERFECT tool to help get people angry at 4Kids early in the series' life.
Hell, now that I think about it, there IS still a bright side. It should help keep people away from 4Kids' crappy-ass DVDs at least! :/

Yeah, i've shown that awhile back. And, no, it doesn't have a JP language option, I guess the Amazon site just lists it has it because most anime DVD's do have the JP language option.

It is horrific, and the editing looks worse than that. You can see where one side of Croc's lips (I mean teeth) don't even move while the rest do.
Did Vivi's head move up and down like that while she was on top of Kohza in the original? Looks like she LITTERALLY was humping him.
