Sonic should be voiced by a woman.
That was a very serious comment.

I know! I saw the opening cutscene on YouTube and I was blown away by the fact that Jason sounded like he was putting effort in his performance!
Agreed. I've played through Secret Rings and in the last couple of cutscenes he does some fantastic work.
I've been thinking about it for some time now, and it hit me that the reason that some of the VAs sound worse than they did in the earlier episodes is because they're probably well-aware of the fact that One Piece is just a shell of it's original self and they've just become jaded by it.
Take Marc Diraison, for example. It's obvious that he no longer takes his role seriously anymore, because he doesn't perform Zoro as well as he did in the beginning.
The same can be said about Kerry Williams, because her performance during the Drum arc was excellent (her "sick" Nami was spot-on perfect) and she even made Nami sound older. However, as soon as Alabasta started up, she was using her original Nami voice again (minus the slight Valley Girl accent)! The bright side is that her delivery is still good.
David Moo's Sanji would be WAAAY better if he wasn't so nasally. I specifically remember him not sounding that bad in the beginning. Otherwise, his performance has improved. However, I will give him props for sounding badass when he said "Get out while you still can."
On a sidenote, from what I can tell from Jason's performance, Usopp's testicles must've dropped sometime while they were sailing from Drum Island, because his voice isn't as cracked and it's deeper.
Did I mention that Luffy sounded better during the Arlong arc? Because he did, despite the writers making him say some Gay Little Speech (as Cartman would say) about "the power of human spirit."
Luffy sounded alot better during the beggining. Sometime during Baratie his voice started getting too high-pitched.
Still not as good as Drummond though. It's just not the same…. :(

No, no, no! There are so many female voice actors voicing males they're turning straight people gay! ;-;
I was watching Hikaru no Go and Touya's voice actress; oh god.

Hahahaha!! Welcome back Terek.
why was it that choppers voice stayed the same in the original anime when he went into heavy point but in the dub his voice grew deeper?
What about the other Character voices?

Jaleel White as Sonic FTW ;)

I guess because 4Kids thought it'd fit more if Chopper had a "monster" voice when he was in monster mode? ^_^;

I personally always believed this was the one thing 4kids did right. Face it, is it not disturbing to see this big serious-looking gorilla monster with a high-pitched voice?

NO.
Definetly not.
Chopper sounds like a freaking Ben-10 monster with that voice. It's horrible, and is one of the worst parts of the dub. His body only turns human form… he doesn't start smoking... I mean... the voice is dreadful.
It makes me throw up, everytime Big Chopper speaks.
Just imagine how they might dub his Monster Chopper at Enis Lobby roar...

Please, don't make me think about 4Kids getting that far in the dub, it's almost lunch and I value my appetite

It's better than Naruto when all the characters look like women and have man voices [deidra specifically].
Haku was one hot chick. At least he did sound like one too.
One piece will not be on this week

Yeah. Nothing else, for that matter. Toonami's airing movies this week.

Deidera is a girl, I don't care what the anime does to her. >< grrr..

I was confused about Orichimaru…still would be if I didn't look it up 500 times. >.>
Luffy's voice actor is some really old lady. Kinda weird, it's like opposite of Luffy.

Let me guess, you thought Deidera as hot…

The same woman who voiced Krillin in Dragonball.
@Cyringohn:
The same woman who voiced Krillin in Dragonball.
Are you serious? That old lady actually worked for Kuririn! Why can't she work for Naruto as well?
She also played Koenma on Yu Yu Hakusho

Well, I don't really like it when big people have little kid voices… >_> (Miss Monday and Fukurou)

I'm more confused with Haku, but then again…

o_O Someone posted a pic of a relatively young woman voice acting in a recording studio (looking happy when playing as Luffy).
57 can be young >_>
After digging through some of the final dub episodes of One Piece, I found something interesting.
First, watch this clip from the Japanese version, episode 130 when Robin joins the crew, to familiarize yourself with the lines and the jokes:
Then, go ahead and watch 4kid's version of this same clip. There's some extra content from 2:10 to 4:31, so you can skip that if you like:
Surprisingly, I didn't find the dub version of this scene all that bad. For once, the music wasn't overly forebearing (it's still unnecessary though), there weren't constant puns everywhere, and the VA's do an unexpectedly good job with their lines.
Particularly good moments:
1:57, where for the first time since the start of the show, Luffy's VA doesn't completely suck at delivering a line.
Usopp's line at 6:12, where he sounds less and less like an Emo Phillips impersonator.
Nami's little speech at 6:44, where the voice actor decides to use emotion for once.
7:18 where Zoro and Usopp exclaim "Hey, hey, hey!", comparable to the "oi, oi, oi" of the original. That still carried over, which is good.
7:33, where Sanji's in the middle of his love speech and they actually add a GOOD quip from Zoro.
8:29 until the end, where Marc Diason just OWNS at voicing Zoro during his talk with Robin.

The only thing I found bad about the scene was the chopper impersonation..even if its the same in the original anime..it sounds better in the original.. the rest was pretty awesome
Usopp with the megaphone… Heh, good times. Pretty good in the english version. O_o
The idea that FUNimation had OP is ideal thinking, a myth propogated by GreatSaiyaman777 who PMed me at ANN and goaded me into popularizing that theory on AP,”
When did I ever “goad” you into posting anything at AP? I never told you to post something for me somewhere before. I may have defended myself if you said you disagreed with me but that’s it. 2. You’re wrong about me again like when you said I got banned from ANN.
where is spread to KF and now seems to be immutable mantra. Ironically, GS777 himself came to AP under a pseudonym and started a topic talking about the "theories" on DBZoa, and when we started to doubt the veracity of his theories he came in person to complain about people "bashing" him…and was subsequently banned from our forum (on his duplicate entry, anyway; I'm not sure about his "GS777" moniker).”
You mean c9commander, aka Sonique who runs that SonicAM site? 3. We’re not the same person dude, I don’t know why you think that or what you’re basing that on besides her mentioning me several times at AP because she likes my work. Is there anything else you based that assumption on besides that or are you really intentionally lying about me? When you keep saying this many incorrect things about me I start getting the impression that it's intentional. And why are you adding little quotation marks around my name when it's completely unnecessary? I came here soon after she posted that topic because she aim’d me about it and mentioned posting something I’d wrote at AP, and I came to check to see what it was.
“A lot of the "evidence" put forth by GS777 apparently came from instant messaging chats without any transcripts, even censored ones, as well as "personal talks" at conventions.”
4. Who says I don’t have any transcripts? Did I ever specifically deny having any anywhere? It was some dude who was personal friends with Kyle Hebert and used to post on his old board long ago. I don’t care what you do with his transcripts, censored or not, if you really want them that badly. Since Kyle no longer even works at Funimation it doesn't really matter anymore. I talked to him (not Kyle) on aim and asked him a couple questions about OP, that was it. 5. I never said I had any “personal talks at conventions” with the people at Funimation.
A bunch of different people did mention Funimation dressing up an employee of theirs like Luffy at an anime convention. They also mentioned reps there saying they had OP, and talk of an advertising tape to show off to Cartoon Network, this has been mentioned on several sites/boards before including ANN’s I think. I’ve referenced that before though.
It sure seems fishy to me that many people saying that, but then again it must be some mass conspiracy of people spread across the internet trying to trick people into thinking Funimation had OP.
“Conveniently, none of that is hard evidence and the VA's who he allegedly got information from have clammed up since then, which is suspicious but hardly unusual for union-backed shows (as all big properties like OP are).”
“Va’s I allegedly got my information from”…. I’ve only ever really talked to 3 Funimation people as my GS777 name, but none of those conversations had anything to do with OP.
Jon Allen and that other dude did post at Kyle’s old board are the people I got that from. Jon’s the one who mentioned Sabat wanting to be Zorro and watching fansubs/reading mangas like crazy to prepare for the role, that I mentioned in the editorial. (http://www.animecauldron.com/dbzuncensored2/editorial/onepiece.html) I didn’t talk to him about that, he just posted it on Hebert’s old board. The other dude I spoke to. Hebert also posted about OP being licensed on the old board, and Axe-hand Morgan being in the episode.
On a different note, I know I’ve been extremely anti-Funi in the past back when I was against them for misdubbing DBZ. I’m not really all that rabidly anti-Funi now though, everything non-DBZ/GT they’ve dubbed great. Anyway, just read this.
http://www.animecauldron.com/dbzuncensored2/editorial/thereturnofthefalcunter.html
Wow, that must look like whoever wrote that pulled all of that information out of their ass about Faulconer hiring ghost musicians! This guy can’t be right.
http://www.shadowsofnamek.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14502&highlight=faulconer (note- please DO NOT post this anywhere, or you’ll get both JA and Bruce Faulconer in trouble. I don’t really want to get either of them in trouble which is what’ll happen if you do, so please respect their privacy and don’t.)
Um… no. I’ve made mistakes before and I’ll acknowledge that, but I’m not running around on some pre-set path pulling crap out of my ass left and right to push some agenda or promote my ideas in an underhanded manner, contrary to whatever you think. I really do a lot of research as you can see there.
Conekiller seems to be right about you, you do seem to have it in for me.

“dissertation on the inner political machinations of FUNimation's licensing protocol.”
Regular words in everyday conversations translation- “editorial on the inside political workings of Funimation’s licensing rules.”
That barely makes sense. The closest thing to me addressing their protocol is saying that they would lie about not having OP even if they had had it before, which I think would be a given behavior for any company in a similar situation. All I did was write an editorial about Funimaton and OP, based primarily on..
1. Hebert saying it was licensed on his board.
2. Jon Allen saying it was licensed.
3. Talking to a friend of Hebert’s about the issue, specifically about DC,
4. and lastly, all the stories about that infamous convention.
“I mean, my sister used to work for FUNimation informally as a marketing representative at her school, and her boss said OP never really was a top priority for FUNimation; it directly contradicts what GS777's "evidence" said, but I can't back it up at all.”
If a boss denies it, he must be telling the absolute truth, no doubt about it. I’m sure it’s not a case of the big boys at the top not telling the underlings what they don’t need to know. I mean, if Exxon found a giant oil well somewhere I'm sure every employee in the company would be told, including informal marketing representatives at various schools who don't even work directly at the company.
On a different note, on VegettoEX’s old site (not the current one. Note- the old one’s not in the archives since some company bought it up and closed them or else I’d post the editorial in question which is what I was hoping to do. The editorial was written way back around 99) a guy wrote an editorial about Funimation’s first anime convention. Him or his friend, was dressed like Luffy and Gen commented on his outfit and said Funimation really wanted to license OP, at a time when it had very few episodes in Japan or awareness in America.
ADDITION
Actually the archives are open again, for some reason. Here's the quote I mentioned.
http://web.archive.org/web/20010802081905/vegex.pokeball.net/thoughts/thought_6.shtml
"Saturday night, the dealer room was closing at 6:00 pm, like every other night at AX. I was just waiting around for my friends who worked at another booth. My friend FlaaB (former webmaster of Home for Infinite Loser), Wuken (former webmaster of Wuken's Homepage and the very famous Sushinchuu) and I were all just wandering around the FUNimation booth when all of the sudden we spot Eric, Chris, and Gen Fukagana. Wuken starts to chat with Gen and soon I join the conversation. Gen is a really, really nice guy. Aside from our opinions of the show, we didn't talk about the dub very much. We then proceeded to chat about what FUNimation's future plans were. Gen said he wanted to finish up DBZ and go on to do GT and then eventually do the original Dragonball series. Gen also stated that he was intrested in picking up the "One Piece" anime in America. One Piece is the #1 title in Weekly Jump in Japan as well as the #1 manga in Japan. It just so happened that Wuken was dressed up in a One Piece cosplay, ironic isn't it? "
Hmmm, sounds interesting. I might just inquire to someone at FUNimation and/or Toei Animation about this.
I wrote out a long-arse response, but it disappeared when I clicked on the ShadowNamek link, so I'll have to draft another one later.
God, I hate fudging laptops.

Someone's uploading the older dubbed episodes. Ep.1 through 21 right now. So, if you want to watch how they handled the older episodes (if you've missed it or something) check 'em out, I guess.
Finally I never seen the kuro and Krieg Arcs!
now all that is left is Arlong and I have seen all episodes in both languages so far made
…While this does not have to do with One Piece dub, what they hell happened to TOM?! He looks so gay now! And Sarah isn't there either. Toonami is dead to me.
God I wish it were the good old Toonami days with Reboot, DBZ, Tenchi Muyo, and Big O. That was it's prime. Hell it even started with Moltar hosting it. MOLTAR! God I feel sorry for this new generation. They have nothing good to look too.
Has Toonami aired the Doublefinger fight yet?

Nope. It starts on the 14th (though Cinder already has them uploaded). Toonami's airing another Naruto marathon this week.
Goddamn Toonami and their goddamn "Naruto" marathons.

Maybe One piece needs to air BEFORE Naruto…IMO.
The reason "One Piece" airs right after "Naruto", I believe, is so "Naruto" 's great ratings will follow into it.

Heylook, they have the first One Piece ep I ever watched. Wow, Usopp's voice is worse than it is in Grand Adventure in that ep. XD
That's not Ep. 1-21 though. They're missing a bunch of episodes. Oo;
…including the ep I was just watching. Oookay, I think someone's reporting the videos.
EDIT: And Sanji's voice is certainly different, but it still doesn't sound much better (even in that speech), IMO.
yeah because I was watching 22 when it was up and its gone….
EDIT: And Sanji's voice is certainly different, but it still doesn't sound much better (even in that speech), IMO.
Well, you gotta admit that his voice is nowhere near as nasally as it is now.
Alright!
the Dub episode with Zoro vs Mihawk has uploaded! :)
Alright!
the Dub episode with Zoro vs Mihawk has uploaded! :)
Lol. Oh, yeah. The dub episode where Zoro was cryin' over a ripped shirt.
Lol, at least in Alabasta they left in the slashes being black. Alot better than seeing his skin color.
Don't really like Sanji's eng voice much…..it just doesn't fit him I feel.Actually none of the voices really fit them.....in english.
I still remember seeing that one vid on youtube with Mr.3 when he came back to Crocodile.Instead of reporting like he did in the japanese version,he started telling jokes o_O;!
Hmm… In the dub, Usopp refers to himself as the "Destroyer King" during Alabasta. I know he said something simular in the original, does anyone remember what it was?

I looked at the manga for this. Usopp says "破壊の王", Hakai no Ou, King of Destruction.
Anyone else catch this?

Someone posted it on KF, I read it but don't know how reliable it is. I don't know if it's real or not. So I'm just gonna repost it, but take it with a few grains of salt, it seems possible but still…we were told the license defaulted to Viz or Bandai, not FUNi.
