2nd episode was good, apart from the parts they cut out.

its kind of weird seeing anime cut ou things in manga, cause they are trying to fit too much in each episode. but so far i've been fine with it. nothing relevant at all has been cut

i don't mind the missing blood or anything yet, wondering if they give Lucy ever fanservice though. i mean mirajane has some pretty cleavage shot magazine pics they show. so its not like they are totally against it.

one thing so far noticed big time though is the ending are all happy and not cliffhanger endings at all. that will have to change sooner or later i would assume.

I mean hell look at one piece beginning, fairy tail is more loyal to its manga than one piece was.

Just watched episode 2…it was a bit better overall, but the reused, backgroundless animation whenever a character uses magic is just lame, reminds me of those old magical girl shows..
And i think the comedy feels really forced.

Thoughts:

• 2nd episode: better than the first. But, the cheap animation is really starting to bother me. Too many characters were off-model and the fucking Vulcan was too damn skinny.
• I guess this episode also confirms once and for all whether the magic seals are permanant or not. Decision? Permanent.
• Voices: Gray's voice is passable, Loke sounds like a little…boy?:blink: Elfman is dead on and Makarov is so-so. Oh yeah, Mirajane is passable as well.
• The comedy was better this episode than the last. I found myself laughing to the guild brawl and Natsu getting shoved out of the cave. However, I was disappointed that Mirajane didn't get smacked in the head with a flying liquor bottle to which I found to be the funniest part of Chapter 2.
• While I understand the time constraints, I'm nontheless pissed off that the scene with Natsu using his fire to close Macao's wound got removed. That was a great scene in the manga and to replace that with Macao just waking up out of a coma looked so damn cliche and lame.
• Why is there a narrator? Isn't Lucy the narrator?
• What was up with Era? In the manga they were sitting around a table within a mountain view chamber. Here, they're inside some kind of dungeon all the while standing atop some some magic seals over a big ass magic seal. :blink: I'm not sure what this scene is trying to prove.
• Siegrain/Jeral sounds okay but that's about it. It doesn't change the fact that his and Ultear's design looked off.:getlost:

3.5 out of 5 for this week.

Given that every enemy thus far has had some kind of sympathetic backstory, it's kind of jarring to see someone who is just flat-out evil like this.

Another comment. It seems Lucy's skirt was so short, it was almost impossible for Hiro to do his typical tease censoring.

Zero is lame, but not as lame as the entire Seis. I just hope the complete defeat isn't just another showcase like the Seis did when they first appeared(it probably would be).

The stick. I hope he's still talking or something. He's the best thing in this arc.

That cliche has existed since Fist of the North Star.

I also noticed that during episode 2, the Era council's theme is Carmen and the goofy hijinks that occurred in the Fairy Tail guild had the Can Can playing. Deliberate use of classical music or is it that the composers just have no idea for originality anymore?

One Piece has used Ode To Joy a few times, not to mention the New World symphony. Anime using actual classical music is nothing new.

Real Quick, Episode 2:

• They changed the setting of Council's meeting room. It looks somewhat cooler. I suppose they wanted to beat the existence of magic down our throats, instead of just having them hanging around a table. Doesn't really affect anything. I liked the use of classical music in this scene and the next, but I don't think it was really effective.
• I was surprised by the guild brawl scene for a few reasons. It was done fairly well, without too much rushing that I actually picked up on. Chuckled a few times to boot.
  • I remember Makarov's speech being exceptionally cheesy, but it felt even cheesier in the anime, as pretty much everything else bad about Fairy Tail has been amplified in animated form.
• Elfman's voice was predictable. Not bad, but predictable. I didn't care for Mirajane's voice. I was hoping for something more beautiful-sounding, if that makes any sense. Kana's voice was nice. She seemed to stand out. I really liked Loke's voice, though. His was definitely my favorite. Macao's wasn't notable.
• The hunt for Macao was rushed to hell and back. A lot of really nice scenes were cut, and it just felt incredibly rushed.

Overall, the anime is watchable, but it just seems to have a complete lack of the charm that lets us overlook the flaws with the manga. The CG effects are really jarring, and in most cases could have worked perfectly fine without it. I'm a big fan of Super Robot, Magical Girl, and tokusatsu shows so stock footage isn't foreign to me, but I just don't feel like they put a whole lot of effort into it to begin with. I'm pretty disappointed with the anime, and I've found myself in a very sad position; Only two episodes in, and I'm praying this series will end soon. It's only going to make Fairy Tail as a franchise look even worse than it already does. I'm afraid to call Fairy Tail a personal favorite, as someone might think I was referring to the anime.

On a more positive note: Chapter 156:

• Staff, or Klodoa, is probably the coolest thing to come out of Fairy Tail in a long time. I really hope he's going to stand back up as his buddies are prone to do.
• There's been so much flip-flopping in regards to who would be the final boss, but it looks like we finally have a solid answer to that: Yami-Brain, as several of us predicted.
  • I really liked Brain's design, so I'm glad he gets a second chance at fame.
  • In case anyone missed it, the lines on Brain's face are shaped like keys. As cliche as it may be, Mashima definitely planned on this. It's nowhere near an asspull. Props for coherent storytelling.
  • His skin becomes white, and his irises solid black. I preferred Brain's design, but Zero looks pretty cool himself. He's got some nice threads.
• Zero might as well call himself Brain, because he's incredibly intelligent. You make sure your enemies are dead, instead of just knocking them down and assuming they won't interrupt you later.
• I think Zero is deep. He doesn't have his own body, but instead lives off of Brain like a parasite. At any given moment, he could be sealed away, and not see the light of day again until Oracion Seis slips up again. He doesn't have friends, family or the ability to retain possessions. He has no potential to excel in life. At the same time, his depravity means there's few ways of actually punishing him. You can't steal his freedom, or take away his things because he doesn't have any of that to begin with. If his home or the rest of the world is wrecked, he doesn't care because he could be stuck in his lamp again where he doesn't have it anyways. The only way he can actually leave his mark on the world, the only way he can leave a sign that he actually existed, is to cause as much destruction as possible. He can only have as much fun as he possibly can in the short time he's alloted. He's a simple existence, but a deep, troubled man who spends straight years just mulling over his own existence. This is a deep villain.

i didn't real think the whole zero was a bad and big surprise or gay twist like yammy being 0, or ulq having only second release ect.

i mean it was shown whole time that his lines where dissapearing, so obviously we knew something would happen when all gone, and when dealing with magical worlds common sense puts it into being a seal of some sort holding something/someone back.

we knew that midnight was the strongest the whole time, ever since they constnatly been saying don't wake him and so on, or you dead now since he is up. So i thought it was all fine.

Not exactly sure what the point of the staff was, and i didn't find him too entertaining, he was just a lippy object. of course haven't found any of htese oricain sis guys neat. That is one thing about fairy tail except for luxis, all the enemies have been not memorable. I could care less about any of them and they just current boss.

the only one that really had much was gerard. sure everyone hated that arc, but not sure why. reread it. i swear it was when most started reading fairy tail that must have been starting and thus first experience of weekly fairy tail and pissed at that. while prior they read all in one batch so loved them.

i was one of them, though i stopped reading at that point and then came back a year later when it was done, and when reading and finished was like "wtf did i stop reading this manga, that wasn't a bad arc at all"

now i'm not saying i like gerard, i will wait to make my judgement on him until the whole mistgun, gerard, memory, and all that shit is resolved and finally know whats what. I mean hell the little girl just recently said how the gerard now feels different than the gerard back then. Is that due to his being possessed thing, did he somehow split like kami and there's gerard and mistgun, or what the deal is.

just saying i'm not gonna hate till i know all the facts.

As Corsair King pointed out so eloquently, Zero COULD have a shitload of depth in the right hands, and if he were truly like that then he'd be an amazing character and Fairy Tail would be among the best manga out there, but guess what, Mashima's still the author. I'm going to keep waiting forever if I build up expectations anywhere near that.

Didn't this series use to be endearing? The past few chapters haven't been bad, but I dunno, the emotional connection I had with this series was been emotionally severed this week. Win me back, Mashima. Do exactly what I'd enjoy most in the most irritating way like you always do so I can continue my love/hate relationship with Natsu and company.

well i said above that fairy tail has the most lackluster enemies ever. I don't remember any of their names, just what they were able to do. i didn't care about beating any of them other than it meant new arc.

the enemies just don't have any connection to the world of fairy tail. there just isn't a good reason ever for what they are doing that makes us feel at all for them or against them. they remind me of enel in one piece. i don't care for him, his reasons were just stupid and pointless. he wanted ot go to the moon, ok wow coo. so he is my least favorite villain. but i did like that arc due to hte story around it. but the villain was bleh to me

We may get better character development in the up coming chapters but for now all we know is that he's fucking nuts which I honestly have nothing against. Besides Mashima's past villians start off weak and usually end strong. If anyone here has read RAVE look at Hardner, King, hell even luxious all of them started off as lame ass villians. As the series progressed their personality became more and more defined. All i'm saying is let's give zero a little more time than just 1 chapter…unless mashima has him OHKO'D next chapter than I'll agree that zero's personality was lame but his design is bad ass.

I'd say the most likely person to beat Brain would be Gerard; he's Brain's former apprentice, and this arc seems to be about redeeming him enough for him to become a main character (or, at least, an recurring hero), so it makes more sense in terms of plot development than, say, the perfume guy beating him because he hasn't done anything yet.

After Makarov's speech, everyone used Luxus' pinky-thumb gesture. Something that we shouldn't be seeing until the end of the Battle of Fairy Tail arc. I wonder if that scene will prove that the show will continue post Tower of Paradise.
