I am currently trying to install a OS from a DVD, but since my computer didn't come with a DVD drive I went and got an external LITEON DVD-RW Drive, but when I try to start up using the drive the computer just bypasses it and goes to the regular Windows Startup. My computer is a Dall Dimension 3000 and Does not have a flopy disk drive, and have the latest BIOS. I have tried everry setting in the BIOS to get to it but it never gets to the dirve so I am asking,
IS THERE A CD BASED BOOT UTILITY THAT LETS YOU ACESS AND BOTT FROM USB DISK DRIVES?
or
IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT I SHOULD BE CHOOSING TO GET TO THE DRIVE AT START UP? (I have chosen every setting at the boot menu so I think this may not work with this question)
Use a USB DVD Drive on startup?

Wether or not USB devices work at boot is often dependent on the BIOS.
What OS is it you're trying to install? You may be able to copy the DVD contents to the hard disc and start from there, or make a boot disc and point it at the rest of the files on the hard disc.
Another alternative– if your USB DVD drive is just a standard IDE drive in a USB enclosure, you could always remove it from the enclosure and install it in place of the CD drive inside your computer. Goodbye, warranty tho.
