Would you cae if someone other than Luffy fought the main villain for one arc?
If someone other than luffy fought a main arc villian
-
-
Yes, I would care if anyone else than Monkey D. Luffy fought the main villain for one Arc. Even Dragonball Z had Gohan, Goten & Trunks all fighting villains. MAIN villains. Hell, even Piccolo, Vejita, even shitty Kuririn fought….. Imperfect Cell!
Couldn't we have a pleasure of seeing Usopp defeating a main villain?
Usopp, Sanji and Zoro are all gorgeous characters with way more originality and spectacular attacks and quotes than Luffy.. I know Luffy's way of good thinking are much more "romantic" than the ones of the others, but come on…
I forgot that Usopp's tabasco star pwned Mr. 4, I think it was... but I mean that either Sanji, Zoro or Usopp fought and even lost abit against a villain as Crocodile, Rob Lucchi... ah, you get my point. Dream match: Aokiji vs. Zoro.
-
I'd love for someone else to fight and win. It would also break the shonen curse of main characters always being the strongest in the group or fighting the main villan
-
Would really like as well someone on Luffy's crew to be actually stronger than him, would mean a lot in terms of confidance he would have inhis captain by following him whil beeing stronger than him.
as such, I would really enjoy somone else than Luffy taking on a main Arc Villain. I could perfectly picture it an arc where the SH crew try to deliver, find Luffy who's lost, retained for whatever reasons. Though we already have Robin rescue so maybe not right after ennies Lobby.
-
Technically Zoro did fight that guy in movie 5 but i'd rather it be in the anime or manga
-
You know, when we're firstly talking about anime/movies here? I'd rather it be for the anime to be dead… Hell, the big differences between OP manga 'n anime are so huge, that it may even occur, that we'll se another one fighting the big main villain...
In the anime and not the manga. shrugs
-
What's wrong with the anime besides filler arcs. I thought the anime was a mostly accurate adaption, not sure tho since i don't really read the manga much
-
I don't get it either. I guess that's just purist talk. Same about the whole 4kids bashing. I would say quite extreme.
-
Of course the anime is the most accurate adaption, since there is no other adaption of the One Piece series than the anime itself… but if you, I recall as an intelligent fan, doesn't read the manga much.. go read it here, I beg:
-
I'll read the manga eventually, but im not much of a fan of comics or manga. I don't hate them tho
-
I don't want to continue and bug you furthermore, but for your own good at least try to fixate your eyes upon the One Piece manga for a few moments.. One Piece fictions around the net are also good. Just try something non-anime.
(that's One Piece related, I mean)
-

On that note, though this is somewhat off-topic: how powerful is Whitebeard if Ace follows him? Ace has a freaking Logia fruit! What ridiculous powers does Whitebeard possess?
On-topic again: I'd love if another character fought a main villain, however I do really love it when Luffy's determination win out over people like Croc or Enel. Lucci's end (if Chapter 421 is his end) was rather… dull (as much as I love Gear 3). Lucci didn't have that megalomaniacal bad-assery Enel or (especially) Crocodile had.
I'd be great if it was Robin who defeated Aokiji...
-
Maybe Whitebeard can grow his body like Galactus or something. And the Lucci fight dissapointed me too. I always thought he would be like the Batman of the group. A guy who uses your weaknesses against you or not even use his powers that much
-
Aokiji is probably the longest lasting One Piece main villain if you do look away from Smoker-kun, because he has helped the Mugiwara several times. It would be awesome for Robin and some Mugiwara to own Aokiji.
I've talked about Robin and Usopp's co-operation in the 421 chapter thread.
-

I'm of the personal belief that Zoro and Luffy are on par with eachother, with Sanji not far behind.
Anyways, Zoro did take out the villian from movie 5, but that movie was a piece of shit. I felt the whole thing messed around and overshadowed Zoro's backstory the Kuina . He made that promise to Kuina! Not Saga!
-
I liked movie 5's characters and setting. The movie itself was so-so. I always believed zoro and luffy were equal too. Luffy just gets the more powerful villians
-
I'd love to see that for once, Zoro and Sanji seems worthy of that role at least one time. Doesn't seem like it would mess anything up, Sanji for example has rarely been pushed to the edge in a fight.
-
Well if there is any swordsman that are super powerful, Zoro will take him on no matter what. So if there is a swordsman as a captain and is the most powerful, then Luffy will have to back down for Zoro's wishes. Sanji taking on a main arc villain would be cool, but i doubt it unless he woman raper that made fun of his food.
-
I am too glued to the shonen stereotype. The only way I could imagine some other Strawhat going solo against a main villain is if Luffy was incapacited. If Luffy is ever captured, that moment would be the most likely point for another Strawhat to step up and fight the main villain.
I personally think everyone on the crew has a role to fulfill and everyone is needed to fight a battle or otherwise assist the crew. Everyone does their part to bring down an evil organization like CP9 and everyone is integral. Therefore, everyone has a main villain to battle.
-
Would really like as well someone on Luffy's crew to be actually stronger than him, would mean a lot in terms of confidance he would have inhis captain by following him whil beeing stronger than him.
I have a feeling the 10th Straw Hat will fulfil that role, just speculation though.
-
OwnerZeff, it's, yeah - stereotypic shounen manga. It seems like every big manga-ka that draws shounen never lets the other "heroes" fight the main villain… except for in Naruto, where like everyone fights Michael Jackson...
I mean Orochimaru. But I had actually hoped for Oda-san to be a bit more special in his ways of drawing manga and allowing Usopp to beat the shit out of a main villain. He'd be greatly credited for that, or maybe not in Japan...
-
I've said it before and I'll say it again: though we don't know much about Don Quixote's powers, I can totally see Robin kicking his ass. Their powers have so many similarities, but I think Robin's power > Quixote's power. She'll probably have to be alot more creative than just the "Clutch" but then again we don't know that much about Robin's fight power either.
PS: Quixote HAS to be a main villian.
PPS: Tho it may be "unshonen" for a main villain to be beaten by a secondary good guy, I don't see any problems with a victory as a result of team work between multiple crew members.
-
A victory as a result of teamwork between multiple Mugiwara's would be excellent, but at this point I fear we're never going to see it, as I have never seen anyone barely touch the main villain besides a few Mugiwara.
-
It is easy to create a main villian for Zoro. A swordsman less powerful but fairly close to Mihawk would make a good main villian for Zoro, since Luffy seems to have disadvantages with this type of fighter. As for Sanji, it's harder. Luffy doesn't seem to have problems with martial artist, hence there's less reasons to pass the main fight to Sanji.
-
Luffy wants to be the Pirate King (i.e. the strongest person), he can't achieve this is someone is his crew is stronger than him.
I wouldn't mind if someone else in the crew fought the main villian, but to have someone on the crew be clearly stronger than Luffy defeats the purpose of his goal IMO.
I find the anime to be an excellent adaptation of the manga, i enjoy watching it, the occasional filler ep/arc is not so bad. However, the 4kids rendition of the anime is quite ridiculously however you cut it. it has entire arcs removed, repeated dialog changes and scene edits.
-
Well, Luffy is the captain, he wants to be the pirate king, it's only natural he fights the enemy "leader" figure, i'm okay with that. At least it's not Bleach, where the main character fights pretty much everyone and the others are just..there.
Regarding the anime, it's a very close adaptation, one of the best you'll find out there. Let's just say i'm very relieved that Oda's work isn't in the hands of something like Studio Pierrot..
-
I don't understand where you guys found that Luffy is the strongest. He fights the main villains and wins, so what?
I'm just bringing up a point, I do agree that Luffy is the strongest. However, you must not think that, for he may not be.
-
i think zoro is equal to luffy in strenght, roger was the pirate king and whitebeard was roger's equal in stenght,i think mihawk might be equal to whitebeard but he won't be the world's strongest man
it's like when the number one contenter fights the champion in some sports,if they both fade out or any other draw posibility occurs the champ holds his tittle, you have to defeat him to get his title, you have to be stronger than him
that is why whitebeard was equal to roger and he wasn't the pirate king and why zoro might be equal to luffy and luffy still be the pirate king,he can't be defeated by anyone and he won't lose and won't win at the same time against zoro so he holds his title
anyway i think except of mihawk that is for zoro the scichibukai have to been beaten from other straw hats too,for example don flamingo vs robin, bartholomew vs chopper, jinbei vs sanji and someone for franky and usopp and for example another swordsman that is in the top five of the world's swordsmen vs zoro
when luffy will fight aokiji if zoro and sanji fight the other two luffy will still have the spotlight but the other two fights will be awesome, imagine luffy beating all the admirals in different places
is luffy gonna defeat sengoku, dragon, whitebeard, the scichibukai and all the other villans himself? in the last arc i would like to see sanji and franky facing sengoku and dragon (if sengoku is the third strongest person the i'd like him to fight sanji and the same if dragon is the third) chopper with bartholomew who let's say is the strongest zoan fruit user, usopp with the strongest giant for a battle of pride or ace or dunno
these fights would be awesome not luffy facing all of them alone and the others fighting their sidekicks
i would like to see luffy be in the spotlight when he fights aokiji and whitebeard but i would like the last fight with a super stong opponent to be zoro vs mihawk,I WOULD KILL ODA IF ZORO VS MIHAWK WILL BE OVERSHADOWED by luffy vs whitebeard, whitebeard was first seen at episode 151 and mihawk in 24
-
I agree that Luffy = Zoro.
-
I think Luffy always has to be the strongest. Besides being the Pirate King basically means being the strongest in the world, we can think back to the Arlong fight.
Luffy says stuff about not being able to use swords, not having navigation skills, not being able to cook, not being able to lie, and then Arlong asks him just what he can do. Then Luffy replies, "I can beat you." For Luffy, being the captain means being dependable in clutch situations, and being able to defeat strong enemies when they threaten the crew. To me, this suggests Luffy should always be the strongest in the crew. This doesn't mean that others can't be close in terms of strength, i.e. someone's 9.5 to Luffy's 10, but in the end he should come out on top. -
I'll read the manga eventually, but im not much of a fan of comics or manga. I don't hate them tho
Why are you posting this in the manga section then? Moving to General, since it belongs there.
As for the topic at hand, I learned quickly that Luffy will probably always get the main villain, or the strongest one. I wasn't a shounen reader beforehand, so I learned this with One Piece. This was not my initial expectation when I first started watching (I started watching the anime first). I was fully expecting that different crewmembers would fight the main villain, or they'd fight them together, not power order thing that exists, but it's not like I think it would be better the other way, I just understood what the formula would be.
I guess it still would be kind of cool to break the pattern, though, but there would have to be a good reason and a good set up for it. -
A good set up for the fight would be great. I was thinking Zoro would fight the arc villian. He is kind of the second in command and all. If the story is good i think fan would like it
-
Yeah, I agree with that, CosmicDebris. It'd pretty much suck if a malplaced Usopp simply pops up out of a corner and attacks the main villain.. a reason is needed for another Mugiwara than Luffy to fight the main villains!
Like Usopp, his strong hate against Kuro for what he did to Kaya…
He should've fought Captain Kuro at least for a few pages before Luffy step in and finish the bastard. All he did was to copy Kuririn's kick against Imperfect Cell in Dragonball - he simply threw himself against Kuro one time, that's all...
I believe that's the closest thing to another Mugiwara fighting the villain. Evar.
-
Spoiler
Well, Usopp did kinda beat Spandam. He could be considered the main villain of the Enies Lobby arc. Even though he's not done for yet…but you know what I mean.
But I'd only like to see another character defeat the main villain if that villain relates to the character in a way. So, Robin beating Ao Kiji would fit.
-
I wouldn't mind seeing a somewhat major villian getting kicked. Not like Crocodile or Enel who are so damn important. Something like a 20 episode arc. But not a saga.
-
Zoro defeated the main villain of Movie 5. Just because it's not canon doesn't mean you shouldn't give credit to it.
-
Yes it does.
Besides, he only got the final blow, Luffy fought him more.
-
In my own personal opinion, I do think somebody other than Luffy might end up fighting Aokiji; most likely Zoro, simply because a lot of Aokiji's attacks have to do with creating weapons (both Ice Saber and Ice Partisan, for example.)
Of course, that'd only be because Luffy has somebody else to fight (Akainu perhaps?)
Just throwing out an idea that's been floating around in my head; no proof to back that one up though.

There's a good point in here. Since Aokiji attacked several members of the crew at once, I imagined that this might mean that Luffy isn't necessarily the one meant to beat him.
I dunno, it all depends on how the story is laid out.
-
I wouldn't mind if someone else fought and won against a main villain. It could make One Piece more interesting.
-
When you think about it Luffy isn't fighting the amin villian in W7. He's fighting an underling.
-
@Octogon:
When you think about it Luffy isn't fighting the amin villian in W7. He's fighting an underling.
Yes, yet at the same time Lucci's the strongest guy there.
But I see what you're saying, if someone fights Spandam then the subject of this arc is happening now–except the main villian will be weak in this case.
-
But Luffy stated himself whilst fighting against Blueno, that he'd be the one to protect his Nakama because he is the strongest. Therefore he will always choose to fight the strongest/main arc villain. So yes, I would care.
-
Diversity is good. I figure that Zoro will eventually beat an arc villian. Afterall One Piece has already broken many shonen cliches so I think the chances are good
-

i don't think sanji and zoro couldn't defeat luffy's enemies if they fought them with no injury from their previous fights or even better if they exchanged enemies with luffy
-
IMO Zoro has more than proven himself to be able to fight Luffy's villians. Luffy justs fights the main villian because he's the main character, but that doesn't mean Zoro couldn't defeat anyone Luffy fights (Except Maybe Eneru)
-

**Exactly. a prime example is Arlong. I think Oda tried to show us Zoro couldv'e taken Arlong is not from the wound.
Zoro couldn't have had defeated Eneru. Though I'm sure one say he'll be able to actually cut elements.
Also I don't think Luffy could have had beaten Daz bones.**
-
Yeah, Zoro would've beaten Arlong without his wounds. I also agree with you about Luffy, because I don't think luffy could've break steel without his gears
-
I think there is one senario that would allow someone, other than Luffy fighting a main arc villian…......
The one (and probably only) way someone else going to take Luffy's place in taking down the villian boss is that if Luffy is sick and out.....
-
i think ace is gonna interupt luffy's fight with whitebeard or he isn't going to let the fight begin in the first place, hahahaha luffy i can't wait for someone to steal your thunder
