I finally finished my second exam.|||Fortunally I did well…or I would get killed by my parents and grandparents. (Do anyone know the certain name of it?It's held in May and July in Taiwan only.Probebly most of Asians have a similar one. It can tell how much you've learned in junior high school.)
Well,~anyway, I heard that Americans don't really have that kind of exam. What are you guys actually doing in your student life?? I really want to knowplease~cause all we have is taking tests~(BORING ) It will still be the same when I go to senior high school-sigh-
(You guys who are not Americans share your experience, too. )
My summer vacation finally came~~~
-
-
Hmm well americans usually have the summer off. I got out on june 7th and go back the august 28th. In school we take a lotta notes, then a test at the end of whatever we are studying. Thats how it is for my middle school anyway
-
I finished about a month ago now…and I'm not going back! hahaahahahaahaah!
-
sheeesh 0 days of holidays this summer for me…
-
Meh, I'm a Junior at college I get my fair share of severe testing but I got the summer off to rest my brain muscle THANK GOD and worka fulltime office job that allows me to be on apforums all teh time. :)
-
I'm becoming a sophmore; I don't have any breaks this summer. Only on Friday. Every Monday and Wednesday, I have 6 hours of SAT English class. Tuesday and Thursday, I have 3 hours of math. Saturday, I have SAT Biology and Sunday is church for basically the whole day. Yeah…..Life sucks for the azns.
-
Geezz… im like a month far away from my summer vacation to be over and my dad already wants me to start studying >> its supposed to be a "vacation".
-
AX week was my short summer vacation. I miss being a student :(
-
I miss being a student :(
lucky you, i DESPERATE not being a student anymore. (needs 3 months of vacation right now)
-
Hey, once you start working, you would never get 3 months vacation :S (But I just like being a student, so I went to school while working, too ^^; )
-
I'm about to become a freshman, and my summer started May 27 and will end August 14. In school my classes vary greatly, but History and Science are basically just take notes, and take a test on the notes every week. In English we always get off topic, and end up having random conversations about stuff, like politics or (far more often) something silly like swapping personal stories. We still learn a ton though.
-
Yeah! I've still got plenty of vacation left! goes back on Sept 7th
Well, we pretty much take notes, notes, test, notes. That's how we do it at our school anyway. And here in Massachusetts, we have to take the MCAS. It's a test that you take in 7th, 8th, then 10th grade. If you fail it, you can't graduate. Not that it's tough (the math one was a walk in the park) but it's still a big hurdle for students here.
At my school anyway, we almost always get off topic in class because we have so many IDIOTS.:getlost: God, public schools are fun yet suck at the same time.
-
Well you don't have much competition where you are. I'm in Jersey, the most populated state in U.S.; as my teacher always says: Think about that.

Lucky you. Where do you live in MA? Here in Shrewsbury, we get back on August 31st. Or August 30th. Somwhere around there.

O, you take it more than just in 7th 8th and 10th. It starts off in 3rd grade, and continues every year until 10th grade. Just that the more major tests are on 4th, 7th, and 10th grade. And each year has a different subject.I hate those times, cause those are the times for writing compositions. The test for 10th grade consists of Math, Reading, and Science for passing I believe. Which sucks. Though, Math I have absolutely no problem every year I do it (usually around the first to finish, and in 6th grade, I got a near perfect score while being first to finish). It's the science test I'm worried about, because my school always inadequately prepares us for it.
At my school anyway, we almost always get off topic in class because we have so many IDIOTS.:getlost: God, public schools are fun yet suck at the same time.
O, you say that, and yet you never saw my 7th grade math class. Behind my math teacher, people were throwing paper balls around, doing math hw and other hw (:whistling:), and paper airplanes, notes, and other random activities. Not that I learned anything in that class since our curriculum had everything I learned before. I swear, in these later years, math and science is just a review of what we learned in past years.
O well, I have one month of summer vacation left.

Holy crap yokai, you live in Shrewsbury? My cousins live in Shrewsbury for pete sake! I go there about once a month, to Lake Quinsigamond (probably wrong spelling)! Small world. I live in the western hilltowns, in a dot on the map called Blandford.
Yeah, I try to forget about the other MCAS things. Those ones just stood out in particular.
Hell, you should have seen my 8th grade math class. I was never technically in it (I got to skip to algebra early) but just having to sit in that class gave me a headache. Our teacher hit a kid on the head with a book because he was being such an idiot. Seriously.
So how is everyones summer vacation going? I've been staying up late, sleeping in late (I've been getting up around 2:00 for the past week) and just chillin. Vacation rocks.

That's right, Lake Quinsigamond. I've never been to Blandford before though.

I took the 8th grade exam last year. Math, as I said before, is always simple. My shitty science teacher made all this hype on the MCAS for nothing. And even though my 7th grade math teacher wasn't that good, I will always consider my 8th grade science teacher the shittiest teacher I ever met.

I've been doing… nothing. I went to Canada last week. However, these times of doing nothing, they've brought me a bit more perspective on my life and how good my friends (especially my girlfriend who's leaving around when school starts) have been.

Ha, no one has. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if many people forgot Western Mass existed!
I've been very busy doing nothing, seeing as I can't quite drive yet (gets liscense in August!) and it would be an hour walk just to get to my friends house. And I'm unemployed.
Just wondering, but do you know a Steven or Erin Mulchahy? (Geez, I don't even remember how to spell my cousin's last name…) I believe Erin's in the same grade as you.

Not possible. I hear Western Mass has some good skiing areas.

Sorry, no, I don't know them. I'll keep my eye out for hearing that name though.
just to be sure you know, I'm in 9th grade.
-
I'm working. As usual. groan
I will be going to university in the fall though :D
-
What university? Ivy League?

Two things: First, September 7th?! I live in Burlington and I go back the 30th!
Second: I just took the 10th grade MCAS last year. You take it for all 4 subjects (Math, Science, History, English), but you only need to pass Math and English. As for difficulty, let me word it this way:
If you fail that test, you deserve to not pass and it is obvious that your deity of choice despises your existance. A retarded monkey could pass that test. They were so mind-blowingly easy that I finished each one half an hour early without rushing, and never strained by brain once nor studied. Trust me, you'll take regular tests in class more difficult than these. This says a lot, too, considering I needed to take a Biology test when I'm taking Chemistry this year and I was asked questions in Math my teacher (who is new) hadn't even gotten to yet. Worrying about these tests is stupid, but the teachers will make you do it - don't listen to them, it's a cakewalk.

Oh, no no no. If I had that much money you think I'd be posting on the internet so much ?
University of Washington is where I'm going. Which by all accounts IS one of the top public universities in the US but it sure as hell ain't Ivy League ^^;

Yep, the 7th. Hee!
Yeah, I took them last year too. Although we didn't have to take the history one, just Math, English, and Science. Easy as pie (although making a pie is actually kinda difficult…who came up with that saying anyway?) I finished the math one 2nd out of my whole class, so I got to read for an hour and a half. The English one took a little longer, but the composition theme was really easy, so I know I aced that. Yet as easy as this all is, about half my class is going to fail the math portion.:getlost: God I dislike my class.
Burlington, where is that again? And there are more people from Mass than I thought!

WHAT!? How in the world do you fail the math portion of all things in such a large proportion!?

It's the place where the Burlington Coat Factory is.

Lex Luthor voice WRONG! That's Burlington, Vermont. Burlington is a bit of a Springfield in that there's one in damn near every state. Burlington is close to boston, and around Lexington, Woburn, Belmont, and other fun places. Eastern Massachusetts.

ah, I was just kidding. Course, now I know where that coat factory (I actually didn't know where it was before.)

Well, I was over-exaggerating a bit, but too many kids will fail anyway. My class sucks at math. We're not bad at science or history (mainly because of awesome teachers) but our math skills are terrible. Well, not mine. I'm two years ahead of the normal math schedule (took algebra early), so that makes me the 2nd best at math in my grade. It's good to be the king.
I guess I've never been to Burlington. I've been to Boston and Salem, but not Burlington. I rarely frequent eastern Mass anyway.
