Yeah so yesturday I went to my mom's to see her side of the family. One of her sisters has an 11 year old son and he's pretty damn cool for an 11 year old. He likes Final Fantasy (thanks to yours truely) and Kingdom Hearts… and funny thing, I asked if he watched One Piece and he said yes... I was like "OMG!" so I asked if he watched it on Toonami and he said sometimes.
Obviously I couldn't pass up this opportunity, after I got the computer away from him... I showed him saveonepiece.com and at first he didn't seem interested. He didn't want to read the whole "about" section so I jumped straight to the cuts section. At first he saw the blood pictures and said, "Well that's not good for kids." and I said "4kids shouldn't take shows that aren't originally for kids and try and make them kid friendly," (or something like that) and I told him to scroll down. He was AMAZED to find out Sanji smokes and that pirates DON'T drink juice, and to see rice balls. He was also surprised about the guns and death and things like that. I think he asked why this was all edited and I flat out told him that 4kids thinks he's stupid. Hopefully I didn't make a bad impression. I mean I don't want him to start smoking, drinking beer and carrying guns but he was also surprised about the 30 episodes that were skipped and things like that.
The best part was when i told him 4kids edited down for dummies and he said (I swear he said this) "Is that why it doesn't make sence sometimes?" So even 11 year olds do notice these things.
He looked a bit more at the site and would occasionally turn to me and go, "Really?" "Is that really true?"... it was neat. A couple of times that day as well he would say, "Is that really true about 4kids?" Then he told me a friend of his likes One PIece and now he's going to tell him that he hates it... I hope he tells him about the site too and about fansubs.
So i felt like I accomplished something, it realy felt good to talk one on one to someone about this. I hope other kids feel the same way when they see the Real One Piece... it's just nice to make a difference.
