First of all, by theme I'm not talking about the location/setting of the next arc. What I mean is the mood and plot/character focus. Example: this World Government saga focused on Usopp's self-esteem and identity crisis, Robin's struggle with the World Government, and for that matter overall conflict with the World Government. Should other Straw Hats get attention next arc? Say Chopper and Sanji for instance? Could a force other than the World Government be the problem next arc? Should it somehow involve All Blue? Franky meeting/confronting his parents?
BTW, I would be thrilled if the next lead villain was a woman! That would change things up a lot IMO! It would also be nice to have a villain that wasn't obsessed with power in any way, shape or form. And yes it would kick ass if Elbaf and Gyojin Island were major factors in the story! The next saga, IMHO, should be in a way like the East Blue saga.
New Theme/Villain Ideas For Next Arc
-
-
I'm almost positive we'll have a low-key mini-arc.
Thus a low key mini antagonist, or maybe no antagonist at all. -
My guess would be that the next arc has to do with something that has nothing to do with the straw hats just like the skypiea arc and afterwards an arc about the new crew member "whether it be paulie or franky" past since they have already done everyone else
-
I needs to see me some more Johnny and Yosaku.
-
Updates on Buggy,Ace, Smoker & co., Shanks, Whitebeard, Blackbeard, DoFlamingo, etc
and it would be awesome if the updates didn't come in the form of one "catching up" chapter, but a mini arc.
-
i personally can't wait to see the reactions of the people across the world who know the mugiwara, i've been dying for another scene like Zeff hanging Luffy's poster and Mihawk showing Shanks posters. And also i'm dying to see the whole Shanks/Whitebeard conversation. My minds going nuts with the thought of Shanks serving under a you Whitebeard with Buggy in toe.
-
I really want to see the Straw Hats havin fun again. IF anything they should have downtime and enjoy themselves for a bit especially after water 7. But i dont think thats gonna happen for a long time…
WHere's that musician? -
Let me elaborate on what I have in mind: rather than having a moral or adventure theme like the previous sagas, it could have a logical/scientific theme to it. Unlike the Skypia and World Government sagas, the villains would not have a particular theme like Dials/Mantras and Rokushiki. They would be unpredictable like Baroque Works.
It would also be nice for the Straw Hats to get another new member as well! If the new crew member were a musician, then the saga could flesh out into an art vs. science/beauty vs. logic theme. The lead villain could be female to change things up a lot! It could involve character development for different Straw Hats. Personally, I'd like to see changes for Chopper, Sanji and Franky next! If the villains did have a theme, I would like to see female cyborgs and mutants. That's just my opinion!
Any thoughts you guys? BTW, I'm talking about whole sagas, not mini-arcs. -

nah, there's plenty of pirates the WG stays away from…Whitebeard, for example.
This thread reminds me: is there anywhere on this forum to post fanfics? I'll admit to having written one....

It's possible the WG will be unable to retailiate immediatley, at the end of this arc their secret service will be in tatters, one of the most feared buildings (Enies Lobby) will have been destroyed and Water 7 will probably hinder them in the future - The WG would likley have to deal with this and any rebellions on grandline/redline that may occur as a result.
Also the Gorosei strike me as more cold and calculating, they'll strike the StrawHats when the time is right.
-
I think it's very likely that the next arc could be the showdown between the Mugiwara crew and the Black Beard crew. Which means that Ace will show up again too.
Another thing could be that we finally get some answeres to some questions. I want to know more about the past and relatives of Luffy, especially the meaning of D. and more information about Roger.
-
I imagine that the next arc will be a reaction to the SHs actions in Enies Lobby. Maybe Smoker will show up again.

Well, for one thing, the Straw Hats WILL be public enemy no. 1 after this. They can expect a lot more resistance from the World Government, both with and without the Gorosei's consent.
It's embarrassing for the World Government and its image in public opinion. They HAVE to retaliate swiftly otherwise they'll look even worse than they did at Enies Lobby. I seriously doubt the WG is going to wait very long to address the Straw Hat "Problem" at all, simply because they have set a dangerous precedent. It's all people like Dragon need to start a major revolt, so the WG has to react swiftly.
Just my opinion, though.
You can also expect MEGA bounties on the entire crew now, too.
-
There could still be a few days time for the government to convene on the problem. In fact, with a problem as large and serious as this one, one might believe that it's MORE likely for the government to wait a bit before reacting, simply because they need to discuss exactly what to do.
Anyway, a few days is all that's really needed for a mini-arc. Heck, even one day in OP time is enough to have an arc like Davy Back.
-
@Paulie: Yeah. After all the seriousness that has happened in the past, we do feel One Piece should have a small fu arc like Davy Back Fight. Also, if Franky does join, it would make some good bonding time for their new nakama.
-
I think it'd be cool to see Buggy again ): I miss Buggy :P I see an aftermath kind of arc being very possible.. I've always liked Smoker maybe he could talk some more trash xD
@sabret00the: in what episode/chapters does that happen? with zeff and shanks? i forget and i wanna watch/read it ><

Zeff hanging Luffy's poster? When did that happen? Chapter…?
-
either Foxy or Buggy would be awsome
also the mini-arc should take place at Water 7 to truly finish everything there up
-
First I think that we'll see a few chapters that will show what all the other characters are doing. I'd actually like to see a story arc not about the Strawhats, but about other people.
I was thinking maybe we could see a brief story arc (a couple chapters max) about Smoker and Tashigi. Tashigi has a dream too, maybe she could find a new legendary sword.
And after we catch up with all the other various people of the Grand Line, I think there should be a fun arc of course. Maybe some kind of treasure hunt, I mean aside from going after One Piece and the gold in Skypiea they haven't done too much of that.
-
@sabret00the: in what episode/chapters does that happen? with zeff and shanks? i forget and i wanna watch/read it ><
151 or 155 i beleive.
edit: i can't find it, i actually think it's episode 55, but i can't get that DVD to work for me.

Franky is the musician now. It may not be his only role or his biggest but nonethless he does it. I dont think having a strong musician can pan out any other way. This is about as close as its going to get. That just my opinion.
-
Franky owns….

I think that the next arc should kinda involve some of odas other characters throughout the world(oda, schichibukai) I think the straw hats should be allying with some of these guys after attacking the world governments frot door.
as for this arc, spandam should die. if no one piece character ever died(I dont think bellamy died either) spandam should be him, he is the most evil, selfish dude(maybe enel too, but w/e) it would be so cool to see spandam laughing manically at his failure as the buster call blows up enies lobby.
but like I said, that flag burning wasnt for show. They declared war on the government. Also this arc was sort of a rebirth for the straw hats(hence their new moves, this is the first time they have stepped their game up) after losing 2 members and merry, it seemed they had hit rock bottom. but now they are all together again giving it everything theyve got, the rebirth of the mugiwaras. It is also a turning point for them.
so I dont think the next arc should be a conventional one(like the other one piece arcs) but more of battleing against the WG officials and meeting up with more pirates.
-
From past examples, the next arc will probably be a fairly short, more light hearted one with a minimum of fighting. This is also when Oda breaks out some of the truly odd Devil Fruits.
Oda's been doing that since they first reached the Grand Line to avoid making the story just one long emotional drain.
Arlong was followed by Roguetown, which was mainly the Straw Hats screwing around and enjoying themselves. The biggest fight scene between Arlong and Little Garden was Zoro's fight with the bounty hunters, which had plenty of slapstick involved. Even Little Garden was largely played for laughs despite it being a life-threatening situation.
Alabasta was followed by Jaya, which was a bit more serious in nature, but had a lot of humor in it thanks to Shoujo and Masira.
I don't think I have to explain why Longringlongland was so amusing compared to Skypiea.

We really need an update on Shanks, Buggy, the other 7Bukai, Smoker, and of course, the Gorosei. At least 1 out of those 5 groups needs to be addressed, not necessilarily in that order.
-
Another thing could be that we finally get some answeres to some questions. I want to know more about the past and relatives of Luffy, especially the meaning of D. and more information about Roger.
Some how I doubt anything along those lines won't be covered until near the end.
Generally, I'd like to see a minor "relaxing arc", simulary to having the Davy Back fight after Skypeia. And I like the idea of making the next main villain a woman. It could cause more ripples amoung the group if Sanji feels uncomfortable fighting her.

I propose Fishman Island after the intermission arc. :D
-
Hmm..I hadn't actually thought about a lead female villain. That would be intruiging.
I do agree with a lot of people here, we need some light hearted shenanigans after this. I think the next arc has to be some Franky bonding and Robin re-bonding. And we'll almost definately see some reactions of other characters. I am positive Smoker will reappear soon, since he now has Luffy's location. Shanks will say a few words (maybe Whitebeard too) and Buggy will maybe show.
-
I'm hoping that the next one is just them having some fun time by themselves on a deserted island, giving a chance for Franky/Whoever joins and Robin to settle in.
-
The next logical story will either be repairing Going Merry (i.e repairing Luffy/Upsopp relationship) or getting a new ship (taking the Rocketman will be interesting). How else will they move around the Grand Line?
The only crew member's past we don't know about is Luffy's. It will probably not be revealed till the end.
-
It was suggested in another threads, but the SHs meeting an all female crew sounds like an idea. Sanji's reaction would be great.
-
I hope we see Smoker immediately after this; maybe once the bounties get handed out, he gets mega-inspired to catch them all (not just Luffy) and he gets mixed into the next saga :P
Smoker is awesome
-
The next arc will be somewhat alike the Drum Drum Island Arc.
I assume, that it will contain no villain, just a struggle inbetween the crew.. as we've just read through the 'greatest' arc so far, the CP9 Arc.
After that one has ended, we'll endure the longest by far, and second to last arc in the entire Wanpisu(One Piece) series, IMO Usopp will get his role. I hope.
-
I want them to have some kind of run in with the Marines and then get a less dedicated Marine to be turned over to the Strawhat side.
I don't know why, I just think that would be cool. (Probably not, that would actually be kind of lame. Forget I said that.)
And maybe Tashigi can come in at some point? I kinda miss her and Smoker, we haven't heard from them in a while. And also, after the Marines tried to give them the promotions and stuff and then he got all angry, do you think it's possible they might split apart from the Marines/Government at some point? I think they're slowly starting to see how much their orginization is hurting people.I wouldn't mind another Davy Back fight either, but theres like 0% chance of that happening. But then again it's possible that the introduction of the Davy Back Fight was for something more important later in the story. Like…and uber Davy Back Fight. Or something.
I want them to get a chore girl, too. I don't know why.
I have a feeling Buggy is going to fly back in and pwn some people, shortly to be pwned himself by either the Strawhats or other assorted persons.
I'd also like to see how Vivi's doing! Even though I didn't like her. I want to see what's going on with Alabasta.Maybe since the next arc is bound to be lighthearted, maybe it won't have the Strawhats at all, just like other people? It'll just go through the assorted lives they've touched, blah blah blah, some stuff happens, and then we go back to the Strawhats who start off doing something lighthearted, but it just landslides into another MAJOR ARC.
Or something.
I'd like a female villain too.
I'd like some major Sanji stuff too. And some Luffy backstory stuff. But maybe not until later.
-
Thanks so much guys for the nice responses! Good points, all of you! I'm glad you guys like the concept of a lead female villain. And she would have to be an even meaner bitch than Alvida! She could even be challenge to Sanji's chivalry. Speaking of which: I would like for Sanji to be more than just the ero-cook. I like him for who he is, but I feel he needs an Usopp moment of his own! His situation wouldn't be exactly like Usopp's, but it would be an epiphany and identity crisis for him. While admirable, I would love to see Sanji's chivalry seriously put to the test. Beyond that of even Mr. 2 or Calipha!
It would be neat, IMO, for Chopper and Franky to develop more too! It would be awesome if Chopper learned something similar to Kumadori's Life Return to control his transformations and actually taking his ambitions for finding a cure-all medicine seriously too.
Other words: big time character development for Sanji, Chopper, Franky, and yes even Luffy! I concur, more backstory for Luffy!
As far as non-Straw Hat characters go: more Foxy, Buggy, Whitebeard, Blackbeard, Shanks, Ace, and Kuro IMHO.
I would love, I repeat, for the next saga to have an intellectual theme. I guess that's a little much to ask of a shonen manga though! In particular, I'd like a saga that requires the Straw Hats to think and puts them in moral situation equivalent to coping with abortion or euthanasia: a wedge issue for the crew! I don't want One Piece to be political or religious or anything, just intellectually/spiritually tough for the Straw Hats.
Sorry for being a wind bag guys! :ninja: -

I just wanted to comment on specific things you said.
On the Marine: Dude, this would be an AWESOME addition to the crew! Since the crew is now in deep trouble with the World Government, it would make sense to have an ex-Marine or another former WG employee on their side to give them insider information - possibly someone who's good at cracking codes and such. I think I commented about an ex-Marine as linking back to actual historical pirates, something that Oda definitely touches base upon in One Piece, since back in the day English sailors would sometimes leave the British navy in favor of piracy because the pirates actually treated them better than the Navy officers.
Vivi: There are multiple characters who believe/have said they will meet the Straw Hats again (the only other ones who come to mind are Gin and Ace), so I think it's highly possibly we'll be seeing some of these folks again - maybe not right away, but eventually. Personally, I think we're overdue for an encounter with Gin, whom I think has probably taken over Don Krieg's role as captain.
Female villain: A female villain/female crew would definitely have a large Sanji-focus (and possibly a focus on Robin, Nami, and any other female they might come across between now and then) simply because it's Sanji. It would be like Zoro coming across a ship full of swordsman who all want to be the best in the world or Nami coming across a crew made of gold - it would be OUT OF CHARACTER for them to NOT react. Even if Sanji just does his normal "MELLORINE! MELLORINE!" act the entire time, it would keep him WELL in character.
Backstory: One pattern I've noticed is that the stronger the Straw Hat, the more holes in their backstory exist. For example we know a lot about Chopper Chopper - he was on Drum Island his entire childhood with Doctor and Doctorine. Usopp? On Syrup Island waiting for his father to return and telling Kaya stories.
Robin is where this get fuzzy - yes, we all know about the Ohara incident, but we also know she was running around for a while joining several pirate crews and Baroque Works (several of whom we never met). I doubt we're going to get any kind of shocking backstory to top Ohara, but I see a fair chance we'll get to meet a few more of Robin's former nakama.
Nami is in a similar position - we'll probably never know who her birth parents are, but she likely got a few pirate crews angry for taking their stuff. Otherwise we know a lot about her past and family.
It's the other three who have gaping holes in their past. For Zoro, who I'm guessing was about 6-10 when he joined Kuina's training school, has no backstory prior to this. If anyone knows how old he was feel free to correct me. We know NOTHING about his family.
Sanji, who was 9 when the ship he was on sunk (I believe he was with Zeff for ten years and since he's 19 now. . .) has another really big mystery period. We also know nothing about his family.
Luffy's past is obviously the one people are most curious about - we know a little about his family and his hometown, but the more we know about these people the more questions are raised. Granpda? Will of D? By the way, where are his and Ace's parents?
As far as non-Straw Hat characters go: more Foxy, Buggy, Whitebeard, Blackbeard, Shanks, Ace, and Kuro IMHO.
I agree that we need another look at what's going on with Shanks and some of the other minor characters, but I think anything major with Shanks won't happen until the end - Luffy has to give Shanks his hat after he becomes a great pirate AND we have Usopp's dad as well in that crew - these are two pretty big links between the two crews that can't be ignored.
As for my own thoughts, I've always wanted to see the unseen BW agents (most likely would be a small mini-arc and easy pickings for the Straw Hats), but that's just me. I also feel like Impel Down sounds like a serious enough place that the Straw Hats will come across it - even if they never run into Crocodile or the other BW agents, I don't think Oda threw it in for giggles. Same with the Marine base Koby and Helmeppo are training on.
Oh yeah. Where the hell is Morgan? He escaped from the Marines - I doubt he's just floating around twiddling his thumbs. He's probably out for revenge on Luffy and Zoro.
-
Awesome response Dixxy! :) I concur that Sanji should and would still be amorous even if he encountered a female villain(s). I would like it if he had to absolutely fight a female villain! Otherwise, in at least one saga or arc he would put aside his chivalry to kick ass. I'm not saying he should become some wife-beating, misogynist asshole: he should just can the chivalry as a desperate measure in an extreme situation. But he is and always will be the ero-cook! :D
Why a female villain? As I've said before, she would really shake up the Straw Hat's preconceived notions of what a bad guys is. And she shouldn't be like Alvida or any other past minor female villains. It would kick even more ass if she had an equally tough female crew! Then maybe a few token males. :P
I'm crossing my fingers for an "All Blue Saga"! -
Franky is the musician now. It may not be his only role or his biggest but nonethless he does it. I dont think having a strong musician can pan out any other way. This is about as close as its going to get. That just my opinion.
I don't really see Franky as being the musician. At most, he's like a temp musician much like how Usopp was the temp shipwright. For this post, I'd like to see someone like a mermaid/siren who can use their singing/music abilities to fight.
-
I don't think there will be a main and central female villain in One Peice.. I just can't see it.
I don't a Sanji vs Evil lady kinda thing would be all that great, Luffy would fight her anyways if she was the main villain.
I expect an Aftermath little arc and well.. I'm not really sure what's gonna be after that but we all have expectations. Someone said something earlier about a Drum Island like arc; I can see that is a possibility although Wapol was the villain there..
I'm hoping for Buggy et al and Smoker will be in the next main arc.. I love them. Would also like to see some old faces sooner or later like Kuro, Gin, and Vivi.. Who is okay I think. Is she supposed to be such a bad actor? Or is that just how it was translated in the anime.. I think its like in the Japanese too not just the dub right?

The one thing about Sanji and the female villain thing is, though, that he would need to be pushed to an extreme to fight her (or multiple "hers"). The only one I can figure is if they hurt Nami and/or Robin (and/or any female they pick up between now and then) - this would put Sanji in quite a pickle because he loves these girls most of all - especially Nami (regardless of your ???/Nami beliefs, Nami is still Sanji's favorite) - have now been threatened and he has put his life on the line for them before.
I think all of the dreams will be solved in the final saga and they will all be solved around the same time. Like, Zoro fights Mihawk in All Blue which contains the panacea Chopper has been looking for and complete Nami's map and hasthe Rio ponyglyph and is near One Piece and is at the end of the Grand Line and Usopp gets his 8,000 man crew. That's my guess, at least.
-
I see your where you're coming from, but here's how I see it:
More than likely, Oda will stick to male villains. It would be great though if he did make a female villain, though! True, Luffy always fights the lead villain. However, it would be nice if it somehow involved Sanji. If not with the main villain, then perhaps he will get the next most powerful female villain.
Basically, it wouldn't hurt for Oda to make a major lady villain for One Piece. A man can dream! XD
And yes, an Aftermath Arc will make sense. After all the bullshit that happened with CP9, it's to be expected! -
If OP has a female villian, don't expect Sanji's help…
He'll be too busy trying to hit on her, even if she's ugly...
He's OP's version of Quagmire.
"He's Sanji!!! He's Sanji!!! You never really know what he's gonna do next!!! He's Sanji!!! He's Sanji!!! Giggedy Giggedy Goo!!!"
-
It would not involve Sanji if "she" was the main villain. It would involve Luffy..
-
Well, people are also mentioning an all female crew, so that means Sanji would have to fight a woman. And it would also be the first time luffy has fought a woman (Alvida counts for diddly squat) so it would still be interesting.
But the next arc will no doubt be a relax/repercussions arc.
-
I like the idea of having a lead female villain in the next serious arc. However, let's make either Robin or Nami the main person she has to fight. Somehow Sanji and Luffy was both caught yet Sanji would not allow Luffy to fight her stating that he believes that Nami and Robin can do the job this time. You have to think that both Robin and Nami owe it to him to save them and be the main heroines of the arc. There will be some men in the crew for Zoro, Franky, and the rest to fight.
This is me completely thinking out of the box and hpping this would happen for one arc. But after W7/EL, I do see a fun/flashback/look at others mini-arc coming, as others have said.
-
I see the next story arc being Loguetown-esque. The whole Water 7/Enies Lobby saga has really given me Arlong Park vibes (crewmember's departure, new bounties, heavy emotional tones), so I think next we'll have some check-ups on some long-running characters, mostly showing reactions to the events of Enies Lobby and also reactions to the new bounties of the Straw Hats. Like Loguetown, I think the next arc will be short and for the most part light-hearted, but then cram in some major plot development in a small space. Then, to mirror Loguetown even more, Blackbeard and his crew, or maybe even Smoker's gang, will finally catch up to the Straw Hats and they'll have to flee for the island. Then I think they'll cross the Red Line and enter the second half of the Grand Line, in a similar way that they entered the first half.
However, I could see there being a few things before the crossing of the Red Line. The Straw Hats could go to Fishman Island first (and presumably face Jinbei), or Doflamingo and Bartholomew Bear could show up as the next major villains. I have a feeling, though, that the next major arc won't be as long as the whole Water 7/Enies Lobby arc, and I think it's about time that Luffy took down another Shichibukai (Jinbei or Doflamingo are my guesses for the next Shichibukai he faces).
-
Yeah, I think everyone's on target with a fun arc next - definitely want to see some of the other stuff talked about in the thread later (but regardless I'm sure Oda can come up with something equally or more entertaining than what we all dream up here because he is Oda), but there should be some kind of mini arc coming up soon.
I'll be surprised if the Straw Hats end up in the middle of another serious arc right after that, although it would be interesting to see how they cope with one stressful situation after another. Probably a lot of burnout and arguing between the crew - a real test to just how strongly they stand by the term "nakama".
-
Well here's my theory: i'll be really, really silly above all else. It will almost undoubtedly contain either devil fruit user or a COMPLETELY loopy villian, and thr fighting will consist mostly of random attacks to heighten confusion more than carry on a battle.
I asked this before but never got answered: is there somewhere on the forums here to post fanfics?
