We all loved the character popularity contest (aside from the disappointing early exit of most of my favourites)– the amusing arguments, the dueling fanart in later rounds.
I can respect it as an annual event, so let's not have another one now. But why not something of similar premise?
I was pondering a "Miss Fanservice" and "Mister Fanservice" contest pair. Yes, done in the style of a beauty pageant:
-Start with probably 20 or so contestants per gender. I'd suggest there could be only one or two nominations per arc, per crew, or per geographic area. This will allow for amusing titles like "Mr. Loguetown" (Captain Smoker) or "Miss Cipher Pol No. 9" (Califa). and prevent the deck from being too heavily packed with Strawhats.
There would be three or four rounds. On each round, there'd be an introduction where each character shows off their stuff (this text perhaps contributed by the nominator to avoid making the guy who runs the polls have to cook one up). Vote for a few days, as it would be a single poll, with all 10, 20, whatever contestants, as choices.
The first round would be to narrow from 20 to 10 (highest vote getters)
The second round would narrow the 10 to 5
The third would go 5 to 2
And the fourth round would go 2 to 1 winner per gender.
The individual rounds would each have a theme foir the "character showing off" post. Just like a proper beauty pageant, I'm thinking describing the characters in elaborate outfits for one, a talent-show round, a "question and answer" round, and perhaps a "demonstration of physical capability" round to make four.
