Regarding Luffy vs Usopp, I always have this feeling that Luffy wasn't taking Usopp seriously. Once Usopp met someone serious like Jab, he's as good as dead.
Ussops potential upgrade…..higher level sniper battle.

No, Luffy at first didn't understand that Ussop was fighting seriously "this is how I fight" thus got angry and unfocused on the battle, however after he started taking damage (albeit minimal) he realized Ussop was serious thus was seriously trying to take him down. Which at first he had trouble with, but eventually succeeded in surpassing his annoying tactics.

IMO it wouldn't fit Luffy to not take Usopp seriously. Sure, he is stronger and he knows it, but still, it just wouldn't be Luffy to insult a former nakama in this way, by defeating him, but not being serious about it.

Don't want to see usopp have some grazy DF or superhuman sight…he can just make some great weapon with a good scope on it. I think he has all the skills needed.
I don't really get that kabuto...what makes it so great? maybe it hasn't just been shown yet...

god. i ABSOLUTELY CAN'T STAND IT when people say.
"if they got a devil fruit, it would ruin their character."
….that is a stupid thought.
all it would do is change their fighting style slightly. most likely to their advantage.
look at kaku. he uses the same attacks as before, just uses the df to boost them up, of make better attacks using the same moves.:ninja:
if you ask me, another straw hat should get another devil fruit sometime through the story.
you act like that if they got a devil fruit, their personality would change completely, and that, my....forum...goers, is stupid. :whistling:

I think Luffy took Usopp serious from the very beginning, but Usopp knows Luffy's fighting style better than anyone. He prepared especially for that battle, and could take some tricks out of his sleeve Luffy didn't expect. Luffy, on the other hand, didn't know Usopp's style as well as Usopp knew his - this also because of Usopps preparations. This way, Usopp could surprise Luffy and the readers by being such a good match for Luffy. Also, it clearly shows that pure strength isn't all there is to these battles.

Neither do I. I think it is because it is Usopp's weapon. And Usopp is one of the more popular character in this forum.

It fired a Phoenix…that is among the most badass things any weapon in OP has ever done. Also, yeah, it's Usopps weapon, and as proved by a)the Clima Tact and b)what Usopp did with his ordinary slingshop, Usopp knows how to make really cool weapons.
Also...it just looks nice, some people like Kabutos design. (you may say "it's just a bigger slingshot"...well, yes, just like Zoro is using only 3 swords) -
Without trying to disprove you… Enel did it first which is why it isn't terribly impressive, despite the fact that it is.
But it is special because it fires irregular bullet shapes rather than classic bullets.
-
I guess I was under the misconception that the irregular bullet shapes is due to the bullet itself rather than the kabuto.
-
Speaking of upgrades, I thought about a cool use for a dial. What if Ussop puts a flame dial in his mouth like that bird in Skypiea? We could have a fire-breathing Usopp–with cool and hilarious results.

Usopp is your classic guerrilla fighter. He doesn't face far superior opponents head to head, because he knows he will be in many pieces if he does. (Of course, his fight with Luffy was the major exception to that rule…)
He uses annoying tactics to get into his opponent's head and that's how he managed to defeat Chuu (by himself) all the way back in the Arlong arc. Unfortunately for Usopp, this strategy hasn't worked against most of the opponents he has faced since then, since they see right through it.
They all have figured out (excluding Chuu) that once you get by Usopp's annoying tactics and force Usopp out into the open, he's basically dead when an opponent gets in close range as he knows no martial arts to defend himself at said range.
I'm amazed that he's still alive, considering he has been:
a) Hit with a baseball bat in the head (arabasta)
b) Electrocuted by Enel (Skypaiea)
c) Had the Daylights beaten out of him by Luffy. (Water 7)
d) Had the Daylights beaten out of him by the Franky Family (Water 7)
e) Taken a really hard kick to the stomach by Kaku. (Water 7)About the only advantage he has is his EXTREME ENDURANCE. But, considering the rest of this crew, it's not unusual.

what about ussop makes or gains a DF like-weapon…..now that sounds like a interesting idea...

If Usopp ate a devil fruit, it would most definentally SUCK. I don't care what anybody says, but in my eyes it would be an insult to all Usopp has struggled for.

Yea, no kidding. Usopp is a glutton for punishment.
If he got a Devil Fruit, knowing Oda, it'll be something crazy that in the end, ends up working to Usopp's advantage.

I'm bumping this idea. It sounds interesting. A good device to upgrade (gah, I'm getting sick of that word) Usopps slingshot.
Plus, it has some comedic potential. Like, if it's mixed with a zoan fruit:
Usopp: Hey Kabuto! Get over here!
The slingshot walks to Usoop after sprouting little legs and jumps into Usopps hands.
Usopp: Behold it's awesome power!
Other guy: What the hell?
-
The idea of a DF weapon for Usopp appeals to me. I don't really know if the other guy would be all "WTF??" if his weapon grew legs and stuff, because it seems that is not uncommon in OP (Frunkfried, Mr 4's dogcannon), but there still could be some major comic relief - if Usopp himself can't entirely control the DF powers, for example.
Also, it could have zoan fruits without being able to walk. A snake zoan would allow Kabuto to slide over to Usopp. This could possibly cause more what-the-fuckage, as the real zoan powers stay more or less hidden. -
I'd HATE to see Usopp get an actual devil fruit, but a DF weapon sounds cool. Some possibilities:
A hawk zoan for his goggles-super long distance targeting.
A hippo zoan for his 5 ton mallet. Need I say more?
A snake zoan for Kabuto sounds really cool. I'm thinking a cobra, which would both LOOK awesome plus add a snake's striking muscles to the oomph of Kabuto's shot. If it was a spitting cobra, he might be able to fire without ammunition.
A snake zoan would also be interesting for a hammer, making it a kind of hunter-seeker whacking device.
There are probably other good ideas, just thought I'd throw these out here.

Well. I was reading one piece wiki and I notice that on ussop's page they say he awakened Kenbunshoku Haki.
Then I saw this post and I started to think: "well it is true, Ussop really needs some power to shoot at long distances".
A devil fruit I don't think so, because Oda wants to keep Ussop the most humanly possible and a devil fruit would ruin the ussop as a caracter.
The googles are not a bad idea however it is easy to break them on a battle and it does't allow to see through walls or mountains. What if he needs to shoot at a blind spot?So due to my doubts I was reading OP again I I found this:
!
And I thought: " what's better to resolve all of ussop's problems than Kenbunshoku Haki?"
So I really think the aura that he sees on this chapter (758) may be the first time Ussop uses Kenbunshoku Haki.
But i'm not sure, so I would like to know what do you think! :D(sorry for the bad english)
