Luffy & Blunt Attacks

**I got off-topic in this thread so I though I might as well discuss it here.

The discussion is on whether or not Luffy feels pain from Blunt attacks. Also how they affect him.

Personally I don't see any reason why he shouldn't feel pain from them. Sure he is rubber, but he still has feeling. He can feel something touch him and therefore can feel pain from blun attacks.

An argument maybe his comment when Alvida hit him with her club. but even there I saw no indication that blunt attacks cause him no pain or are completley ineffictive against him. And Alvidas intent was to obviousky smash him. You can't smash rubber, unless maybe if its frozen.

Also Ussops impact dial hurt luffy. It is true that impact dials also cause internal damage. but his whole body is rubber, including his organs. If he can't feel pain from blunt attacks on his skin I see no reason why he would feel pain inside.

I think that over time Luffy's "immunity" from blunt attacks will get weaker and weaker as opponents get stronger. I first noticed if with Sanji's kicks. I mean it might be "joke violence" but his kick may be strong enough to hurt him.

And does he feel pain? If the blunt attack is strong enough, then yes. Alvida was too weak, but Lucci's "shigan to the neck" hurt Luffy to point point were he was as least gasping for breath.

Not to disagree, but I'm pretty sure he was gasping for air because his windpipe was momentarily closed shut. But I do agree that he probably feels even slight pain, whether or not the attack actually causes lasting damage.

It's sorta hard to tell. I was gonna point out how Nami poked Luffy with a needle right after she sewed up his hat and said she did it because 'it's the only way she can hurt him'. But then I thought of Sanji kicking Luffy and Usopp's faces in, during Skypea.

So yeah, physical attacks probably do less damage on him than a normal human but if strong enough they still cause him pain.

Well you have to take in to account that nami is nowhere near superhuman physiccaly. She can' t use physical force to harm luffy, sanji or zoro in the least.

I see Luffy's gomu powers affecting his overall endurance to concussive blows. He has a drastically increased resistance to such attacks, and so, while he can feel a bat hitting him, he probably wouldn't mind it hitting him. and supaluigi's reason for Lucci shigan thing fits perfectly. He's immune to bullets, so unless one hit him in the throat (or it was bladed), it bounces off him, and he doesn't feel much, if any, pain. Impact dials cause internal damage mostly. From what I remember so far, most people who get hit first cough up blood, and THEN go flying from the excess energy. But remember that Luffy's power is all about bouncing back. He doesn't seem to be able to bounce energy that isn't moving through a solid mass, so impact dials can hurt him, i suppose.

Luffy probably doesn't feel much pain from the blows themselves, but still feels certain effects from them (breaking skin, bursting blood vessels (or whatever it is that causes lumps/bruises).

I think it's a long term kind of thing. Bullets will bounce off him, and his bones won't break, but enough force could mess up his insides. Doubt that would feel good at all.

I think the Luffy vs. Foxy fight is the clearest indicator that physical blows DO damage Luffy. He bled because of the explosions and spiked gloves, but those themselves wouldn't have tired him out like that.
Theres' no doubt that his rubber body could absorb loads more Kyuubi Rushes than a normal human, however.

Well, there was a lot of exertion on his part. Whether or not you believe he was immune there, he was fighting for his life.

There are force behind hits, so no matter, it still isn't good getting hit. But there really isn't a way Luffy would lose to someone trying to knock him out.

Luffy is punched by an ordinary minion, but obviously isn't hurt. Furthermore, he didn't even feel the pain and immediately turned his attention to his falling hat.

Now, in this scene Luffy is kicked by an obviously much stronger opponent; and it obviously hurts since he is sent flying backwards. However, the translation of the second link is illegitamate because the official Viz translation has him saying "Darn, I cut my lip". But in this one, his jaw is broken. Either way, Luffy's mouth is bleeding and he is STILL hurt (to an extent) by the attack. Because of this, I have formed two theories:

1) Luffy feels no pain from blunt objects, however, his body still takes the damage (As evidenced from Kuro's kick causing him to bleed).

2) Luffy can only be harmed by blunt attacks when the opponent is incredibly strong. Force has NOTHING to do with it since an ordinary grunt caused Luffy's head to move with HIS punch.

Either theory works with the evidence provided.
