You know, I never bothered to find out. Any Pride/UFC/K1 or general mixed martial arts fans?
Not discussion yet? MMA

Sherdog used to be what Arlong Park is now to me (it seems it has since become much more commercial). But I haven't followed what's up with MMA in ages. Although I do sometimes watch K-1 if Euro Sports happens to broadcasts a match. I should try to get myself back into shape too.
Anyway, who are the current hot names?
-
Huge K-1 fan here. Used to watch it regularly from 1998 to late 2002, but it went down the gutter lately and is nothing close to what it once was. I was never really interested in mma as I find the ground game incredibly boring (and gay, may I say it, and yeah I know "I'm sure that if you got caught in an omoplata you wouldn't find it so gay" yadda yadda).
Biggest names in K-1's history: Peter Aerts, Ernesto Hoost, Andy Hug, Jérôme LeBanner (my favorite, obviously), Mike Bernardo, Francisco Filho, Mirko Filipovic, Ray Sefo, Mark Hunt and Sam Greco.
I'll talk about il later in more details if someone cares.
Any fighting sports practioners here? I did some muay thai for a while but quickly realised I was shit and that it'd be better for my health if I just watched it on tv.
-
I like K-1, but I actually like MMA better because of ground. Not for that reason, but I do a lot of grappling (BJJ, Judo, wrestling) and find it pretty technical and cool. Which is why I don't like UFC all that much. If you're on that ground and a KO isn't in progress, everyone will boo.
Some of the people that I guess are up now in MMA are Diego Sanchez, Crocop, Fedor Emelianenko, Andrei Arlovski, Tim Sylvia, and Wanderlei Silva.
-
Yeah ground fighting is technical for sure, I'm just talking as a guy who watches fights and wants exciting action, I think pure strikers will always be exciting while pure grapplers like, say Arona can be a real pain in the ass to watch.
The only grappler I like is Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, he always seems to be able to pull off incredible submissions even when he's badly dominated (see Sapp fight).
-
yup, a fanm here…
used to attend some wrestling stuff...but at last i was thrown out XDFor me the names are: Sergej Karaev, Remy Bonjasky(last name could be wrong), Alexej Ignashov(sure is a killer), Ray Sefo is a strange person XD...
of course there are many names but i am too lazy to write right now... -
That's Ruslan Karaev actually. Ignashov is awesome but his talent is wasted by what seems to be severe alcohol dependance…
For the big mma names, I'd add Georges St Pierre, Matt Hugues, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, Chuck Liddell, Takanori Gomi, Tatsuya Kawajiri, Remigijus Morkevicius (gotta love that name) and Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto.
-
I dunno why I don't like Lidell, but I really hope Babalu kills him.

yup, you're right, my mistake…don't know actually why i wrote it

Liddel vs Silva announced for November at UFC. Should be interesting.
-
Yeah, the sherdog forums just got a mass chub from the announcement.
My friend's cable company fucked up and wouldn't let us order UFC 61. But I guess I'm glad, 'cause I heard the title matches sucked. And that just made Arlovski get on my nerves. Really, I just wanna see the Monson fight now. Everyone over here was dying to see him because my friend trains with him.
-
From the reports I read, you didn't miss much cause the event apparently sucked. Arlovski showed no agression whatsoever on his feet to push the action against the counter punching Sylvia nor did he ever try to bring the fight to the ground where he'd have had the advantage over Tim. Apparently his last loss against Sylvia really screwed up his confidence.
Here's hoping now that Monson chokes Sylvia out, I hate that fat hick.
-
Bumped from the depths of forum hell and a double post to boot, but holy shit… Mirko absolutely wasted Silva. Gruesome doesn't even come close to describe the beating he gave him, Silva looked like a traffic accident victim.
So now we have a Mirko/Fedor rematch. Should be interesting, even if I don't see Mirko giving him too much troubles. At least we won't get to see Nog being raped for a fourth time.
-
….....!!! It already happened?!?!?!?! I thought it would be Sunday in the US, meaning Monday in Japan. They're my top two, but honestly, I was going for Silva on this one. Ugh, man. So Barnett and Nog didn't happen yet?
Something funny is that after last month, I've been able to easily spot Denis Kang and thus see him like, everyday. I wanna say something, but there's no way of me not being dismissed as some little nerd.
-
Barnett beat Nog and lost to Mirko in the final, he did good but was too tired from his fight with Nog, that was a really close one that lasted 15 minutes contrary to Mirko's 5 minutes destruction of Silva.
What's the deal with Kang, the guy looked huge during last Bushido, that one armed choke he put on his opponent was insane. Where do you train?
-
I guess I underestimated Barnett.
I go to American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida. BJJ tournament in about an hour, haha.
-
Good luck with the tournament.

How it went?
Jeez, something need to be done to the search function. I took me almost 15 minutes to dig this thread up. And all of that because I accidentally bumped into this video and I just had to ask if this guy is good:
Doesn't matter really. I like the dude - even if he would suck so bad. I was originally searching another hightlight reel, one from few years back and with a certain Guilty Gear song, but this is better.
-
Sudo is awesome. Never really beat any big names (though him knocking the living crap out of Royler Gracie was nice) but he's always making the show, whether it's in his entrances or his fights. The fight against Butterbean was hilarious.
-
I just read Sudo has retired. That's a pity. At least the guy took it as it is, as a marriage of entertainment and sport. Besides anybody who waves the flag of UN and and wears the text "We Are All One", for show or not, gets instantly my respect. And, seriously, if I wouldn't know any better I would think that this is a clip from the Olympic games:
As a side note, triangle choke is my personal favourite.
Edit:
@Aldrich:The fight against Butterbean was hilarious.
I just watched it. Just the idea of these two fighting is amusing but seeing it, well, that is a sight.
