Until recently (Water 7 arc) I believed that Oda draws each manga chapter about two to three weeks ahead of its release, however, due to the closeness of the anime to the manga and the amount of time it takes to make an anime episode, I am beginning to think that Oda has drawn the manga well ahead of each release.
So my question is does anyone know how far ahead Oda draws One Piece before each release?
There should be an answer of this in sbs corner. I think it was 3 chapter ahead. But that should be only drafts of chapters.

In the SBS topic he said this difference usually stays from 3-5 chapters or somethingā¦. not that far ahead.

O: I see. I wondered about this myself, years ago. So I understand your curiosity. AT THIS EXACT MOMENT, issue 46 of Jump is hitting the stands. It contains One Piece chapter 60, "Solution". But I have finished the drafts up through chapter 63, "I Ain't Gonna Die". So a chapter comes out roughly 3 weeks after I finish it. But that's only my CURRENT schedule. The people doing these weekly serials aren't actually all the same. I could change if need be. There are various cases.

Toei Animation only has access to new chapters when Jump is released, AFAIK it's not like Oda go and send them in advance. So the anime situation has nothing to do with his schedule.
Toei makes fillers so they don't catch up to the Manga.
Don't forget Oda's recent sicknessā¦ if he had a spare chapter in reserve, he'd of used it. I think he's barely ahead.

it used to take like 6 months per episode in the past because everything was hand drawn and all the new anime is digitally animated now so it takes way less time. each southpark episode takes about a week to do so i'm wondering if an anime takes around the same time. since one piece is more detailed i think it might be more time but then again the anime might have way more people making the anime than south park.

i don't know about that. toei is paying a crapload of royalties to shonen jump and oda so i expect them to cooparate with them and give them the chapters as soon as the mangaka is done with them.
