One Piece In Ten Minutes Or Less

Hello my dear nakama of Arlong Park!

For Computer Class, I have to make a Powerpoint presentation on the subject of my choice.
Guess what subject I chose.

SO…I was wondering: I've already finished a basic overview of the four seas, the Red Line and Grand Line, a little bit about Gold Roger and the Devil Fruits, and I'm working on info about the Straw Hats and Franky.
Now, I'm wondering about what sort of things I should include or exclude in the rest of my presentation. I am capable of thinking it up for myself, but first I wanted to read everybody's suggestions on how I should go about listing the various locations, villains, and other stuff in One Piece (for instance, how the hell do I bring up the phone snails??).

So if anyone has any ideas, it's appreciated! Shout it out and throw me a papaya or two. Er, scratch the papayas.

I'd cast One Piece as a fantasy story focusing around pirates, rather than a pirate story. I think it makes the logic of Devil Fruits, Den Den Mushi, and Skypeians a lot easier to swallow. I'd perhaps have a slide of recurring themes. (nakamahood and dreams being the big ones, but also strength of will > quantifiable strength like douriki or bounties). Perhaps an overall "the players" chart, explaining the relationship between pirates, the Marine, revolutionaries like Dragon, the government (perhaps also showing how the WG is supported by independent governments), and the Shickabuchai. Maybe conclude with a slide of theories to be proven.

Yeah, that's good.
I was thinking of categorizing things as Other Pirates, World Government (with a chart depicting the Shichibukai, Marines, and Cipher Pol), and other characters by group (Baroque Works, Shandorans), and you gave me some really good ideas.

Also, I'd suggest probably not using the term "nakama." Sure it means alot, but only to those that actually know Japanese or are into the series.

For phone snails just metion that OP is full of impossible creatures. From ones bigger then any whale, to ones that blend other animals or even objects within them.

Be sure to explain the luffy/shanks ideal of priatehood early. Otherwise they won't understand the idea of good pirates.

I wouldn't go into the big stuff like will 'o' D pluton etc.

Maybe you should bring up zoro's fight, or buying his cursed sword to show how much they will give for there dreams.

For a 10-minute powerpoint presentation, I think it would be most impressive to rather than analyze One Piece, do a more selling-it sort of thing. (That's about all I think Powerpoint's good for anyway: presenting factlets that make people go "ooh, how pretty"–> marketing. Seriously, it's been shown that Powerpoint presentations make people stupider in most contexts; good for sales pitches.)

"Why One Piece?" in ten minutes, rather than factual stuff like the world.

I'd probably break it down as follows:

1 minute: the basic story: Luffy, Gold Roger, and his dream. Sets up the central character. Evidently, most manga concepts have to be pitched to companies on the basis of the protagonist alone; I think One Piece can be too.
2 minutes: the devil fruits and all the possibilities that come from it, from badasses to... Wapol. Comedy and action in one.
3-4 minutes: focusing on the main characters and their dynamics. Why they work as a team, their strengths/weaknesses/etc. From Nico Robin it's an easy segue to:
2-3 minutes: the World Government, poneglyphs, and the arcplot.
1 minute: What's Next For One Piece.

You might also want to put statistics on its popularity all over the world.

Yeah, I know you're not actually selling it, but figures like that make people more inclined to perk up and listen.

Well, for one thing, it would probably be a good idea to give a brief overview of the differences between the English dub and original. I believe "cut out 32 episodes worth of content", "removed both drama and humor", "changed music", and "added several puns and childish jokes" would cover it.

Also, it would be best if you only went over characters from earlier in the series. Possibly mention the entire Baroque Works ordeal, but don't bring up any crewmates past Sanji, or Chopper if you want to stretch it. But DO NOT bring up Robin and Franky/Paulie.

Some time before the end of this week.
My teacher doesn't actually care how long it is, ten minutes is just a guess. She's already previewed the part about the Grand Line, which also covers Log Pose (I just put Log Compass) and Raftel, and she liked it.

As in be nice, but inform them that Zoro, Smoker, Ace, etc. are their real names. Don't make it a point, just if people are concerned that you might be mistaken calling it Whiskey Peak. Sounds like a great idea though, I really hope you get some people hooked on One Piece.

Actually, I'd suggest http://www.youtube.com to upload. People can just watch it from thier browsers and it don't expire. Only problem is it has to be under 100mb and limited to 10 mins in length so if its more than any of them or both you'll have to split the video and upload it in several parts to fit.
