Just out of curiosity, is there anything in real life that would be equivalent to the CP9's rokushiki powers? That would be awesome if there was!
Real Life Rokushiki

No there is not. There are also no devil fruits, if that was your next question.
-
Well I guess there could be some idiot who would tie a stake to his finger to represent a shigan. Thats as close as you'll get though

!!!
My life has been a lie…
-
Well, in Karate they teach us to tense our stomachs like steel, I suppose that could be considered Tekkai?
And Matrix-style dodging could be considered Kamie?
-
Umm….sure, I guess you could get on a moon bouncer or a trampoline and imitate geppou....
-
ld be some idiot who would tie a stake to his finger to represent a shigan. Thats as close as you'll get though
Lol!!
Well I've heard of some tekkai like techniques, but you don't come close to making your body like steel with those. It'd be good to know soru though. No more being stuck in traffic.
-
Chi and Shaolin Kung Fu would probably be the closest
-
No there is not.
Yes. Well, partly.
Iron Shirt is the definite inspiration for Tekkai. You can actually bust spears on your body with the correct breathing technique and toughness. A very good amount of your body honestly is like metal, I've….got a little experience on that one, haha.
The thing about Shigan is that it's also real. You'd probably think it's some super strength thing that allows them to literally beat a person with one finger, but actually, finger strikes are extremely useful. Besides regular finger strikes, there was a diamond finger skill I once read about, and Toshitsugu Takamatsu, for instance, could drive his finger through a tree.
Soru and Kami-e seem like overexaggerated versions of movement. Geppou is the stuff of legends, and Rankyaku...I dunno, kinda came outta left field. But at least we know it has the same principle as Zoro's air cutting, so it can be tied to something, I guess.
-
shigan??
in a movie "Blood Moon" or something like that a guy had two fingers from steel and he killed people with an attack like shigan XD -
You COULD attach a sword to your leg and then you'd have some form of Rankyaku.
-
Here's a movie of a kinda real-life shigan, except it involves all the fingers and not just one. Still, it's pretty cool.
-
I remember somewhere a video of a guy holding a full soda can in one hand, and shoving a finger of the other hand all the way through…..so yeah, I guess with lots of training a Shigan is possible.
-
Here's a movie of a kinda real-life shigan,
http://www.collegehumor.com/movies/1632673/LUCCI!!! That is sick.. however I don't think you could pierce someones skin with it.. cause internal bleeding yes, but skin is more flexible than wood so I dunno.. could be wrong.
I always thought of those old Karate jokes where the guy sticks his hand in the opponents chest and rips out his heart when I think of Shigan.
Real life Tekkai is nowhere near the exaduration used in OP :/
As for Geppou.. I have a theory which goes against gravity, that if your knee and leg muscles were strong enough you could theoretically push your body in upward motion while suspended in mid air. Kind of like when you stretch your upper body very quickly while sitting down (try it, keep your lower body motionless). -
Real life Tekkai is nowhere near the exaduration used in OP :/
Humans are exagerrated in OP anyway, but yes, it actually comes close. You can definitely break a foot on the groin of an Iron Egg practitioner.
-
I go with Buccaneer's explanation for the first four.
EDIT:
Yeah, I'd go with Soru and Kamie as just being "exaggerated" movement. I typically view Soru as a sprint, and Kamie just seems like relaxing your body and carefully watching the opponent, so it's partially do-able(?).Something like what Refii said could be possible for Geppou, but definetly nothing like in OP. The only one I can't see being done is Rankyaku (kicking through something is one thing, but there ain't no way you're making a wind slice Xp ).
-
Real life rokushiki as in One Piece is impossible because of the limit's of the human body and even with martial arts and ancient teachings tekkai and shingan are impossible. Although i would be cool to kill somebody with you finger.
But there is something in the real world that comes close to rokushiki, its name is Chuck Norris
-
The closest thing to one of the Rokushi skills (kami-e) that could have existed in real world is aïkido. O sensei Morihei Ueshiba who's the creator of aïkido was said to be able to avoid all attacks, like if he was a leaf moved by the wind. It looked like he was able to feel the attacks before his opponent launched them too, something reminding Enel's mantra.
Or maybe it was just fairytales bullshit.

**There actually is something eqivlent to it, but not in raw force.
Iron shirt is extrmley hard like tekkai. An Iron shirt master can stop spears with his body. And if you can do that with your body there is no reason you can't do a move that resembles a shigan.
And there are many types of speed thing where you boost yourself from one place to another. Resembling soru
And even geppou. Though you won't be able to walk on the air. You can use you fet to give you an extra boost when jumping.
And kami-e if definatley possible. Through intense meditation. Timing is also crucial when dodging like this.
And Rankyaku is not able to hurt people in real life. It can be used to blow people away an inch or two I suppose…., because I know certain ninja used fans to litterally blow their oppenets a little away. But this would take years of training.
So there are equals. But there are no-where near what we see in OP.**

Can you stop a knife with tensed up stomach muscles :/ ?
-
Can you stop a knife with tensed up stomach muscles :/ ?
If you can do Iron shirt well, then yes. The knife won't bend or break but you can stop it.
-
That's interesting to know that some of those moves have some basis in real-life, though I certainly don't expect that to be true of geppou and rankyaku. At least not with human strength alone. Maybe with some technology involved.
-
Can you stop a knife with tensed up stomach muscles :/ ?
An A&E document on Shaolin monks I once saw had a fairly young monk balance on the tip of a sword. But, y'know, it's always safer to try to avoid than push your luck…
-
Oh, here's another example of a would-be shigan. This also proves that the human body is capable of doing some rokushiki shiznit through some extreme mental/physical training.
-
wow. That question got expanned more than I could have imagined. An yes. I have actualy heard of real life "Iron Shirt" from a dude via the net. Tough it can't protect against a sword, nor a bullet fired from a gun, but still. You guys should know what I mean.
-
Well, the shigan thing is fine against very thick grass mats or even wood, but human bone is a lot tougher than those. You could pierce someone's skin with a shigan type move in real life, but it won't be a deep wound (depends on where you hit too, of course). And I never really believed the iron shirt technique can stop spears. I always thought it is an exaggeration.
Rankyaku and geppou are definite noes. Soru…fast movement yes, almost instant movement no. Kami-e, believeable, but you'd have to have trained hard for so many years that you'd probably be an old fart who's not interested in fighting any more.
-
Piercing someone with your fingers? I don't see why not. That dude from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was pretty good at it. ^o^
Seriously though, can you make your body tough/resistant to pain through phsyical and mental training? Yes. Can you make your body steel? Please.
I'll be believe in Rokushiki when someone pulls off a Kame Hame Ha.
-
I know Houdini was a master of taking blows, as well - perhaps Iron Shirt. However, the only problem is when Tekkai is used, it's for the whole body, right? I believe that Houdini could only block something if a) he knew it was coming and b) it was to the torso. Tekkai is probably an exaggerated version, because it blocks everywhere. No matter how good you may be at Iron Shirt, you must still have some pressure points or spots with little-to-no muscle and only bone that you can't block.
Saying Ryankyaku can exist is like saying the XXX Pound Shot can exist. No freaking way.
Kami-e is exaggerated to because, hey, maybe you can dodge things good. But can you become the width of a piece of paper? So is Soru, but that one's probably surprisingly close to the mark. And Geppou seems to be a very ninja-like thing (but stupid corny fake ninjas, not the real ones of history), so I nay that.
Shigan is definitely believable. I believe there is a physics formula of force X area = pressure, and with a small area of attack and enough force you can get a lot of pressure. It's at least more believeable than palming someone in the chest and breaking inside. However, something about the video with the old man holding himself up on one finger strikes me as suspicious. It doesn't seem real for some reason, and I can't place my finger on why.
-
The air slice achieved with Rankyaku would require moving the air at speed sufficient to produce a blast of air with 3000~4500 psi. The strain of doing so would probably break the person's hip. Shigan would best be used on the solar plexus or between the ribs. Rib meat generally provides decent resistance without being too hard, allowing the finger to penetrate the flesh and probably the muscle as well; so long as the person has decent abs–no beer gut, no rock-solid six-pack--shigan could be used there as well. Of course, I completely forgot to mention the throat.
-
But, y'know, it's always safer to try to avoid than push your luck…
Which is what Kamie is for. :p
Kami-e is exaggerated to because, hey, maybe you can dodge things good. But can you become the width of a piece of paper?
They become the width of paper? I thought they just moved like paper or something.
