I have a few:
Jesus Christ Superstar- THE best rock opera to date…well maybe people believe that Mamma Mia is better. But the songs are awsome. Hossana, This Jesus Must Die, Herods Song, Last Supper, and, of course, Heaven on Mind. Judas is the best character in the show.
Godspell- Ah the "hippie" show. This is really a great musical when you look past Superman Jesus. If done right, the scene where spoilers Jesus is nailed to the cross spoilers will make the audience tear. Try to stay still when listening to Prepare Ye and stay still
West Side Story- Its grown men dancing. Need I say more?
Wicked- The #1 play now. It is wonderful, and less confusing then the book. I really recomend it. Some great songs are Dancing through Life, Whats this Feeling, and Defying Gravity.
Spamalot- Read the topic about it.

Jesus Christ Superstar (which says a lot because I'm not religious)
West Side Story
Yellow Submarine
Rocky Horror Picture SHow -
Bat Boy the Musical - Far and away my favorite musical. I love it so much! It's based on the articles that ran in the Weekly World News about a half-bat-half-boy found in a cave. The plost is sort of like Edwards Scissorhands. It's soooo good!
Les Miserables - Classic.
My Fair Lady - sigh I love this one.
-
Are we talking theater, movies, or both?
Anyways, here's mine:
The Wiz.
"Ease on down the road" is an AWESOME song.Hello Dolly!
Again, has great songs, and Barbara Streisand is awesome. My Fair Lady.
Just . . . awesome. -
South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut.
-
Moulin Rouge– one of my all-time favorite movies.
Fiddler on the Roof– One I didn't actually see until the year we did it at my high school and it's actually a pretty damn good movie
Avenue Q– Running on Broadway right now, I thought this was one of the most clever ideas I'd heard in a while-- a Sesame Street for teenagers and adults, with such catchy tunes as: "The Internet is for Porn", "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist", "If You Were Gay", and "My Girlfriend (Who Lives in Canada)". Well worth checking out.
The Music Man– An oldie but a goodie. One of my favorite soundtracks to a musical and I couldn't really tell you why, I just find it extremely pleasant.
The Pirates of Penzance– It's technically an operetta, but I think it counts as a musical. Just a fun, witty show that still holds up really well over 100 years after it was written. If you can manage to find a copy of the movie with Kevin Klein, do yourself a favor and check it out. There's a version out that's the taped live performance, which is all right, but you want the actual movie. (Psst. If you find it somewhere, let me know 'cause I need one.)
Les Miserables– An absolute classic. If you get the chance to see it live, do so, it's incredible.Dang, all this is making me realize how long it's been since I went to the theater. That's depressing.

Sweeney Todd
Merrilly We Roll Along
Funny Girl
Fiddler on The Roof -
Ah! I forgot Fiddler on the Roof.
And I also forgot to mention I can't stand Godspell (no offense).
-
-Hedwig and the Angry Inch
-Moulin Rouge
-Cannibal! The Musical -
I forgot that South Park was a musical. And yes Ease on down the road was A good song. Im singing it in Boston along with other Wizard of Oz, Wicked, and Wiz songs. I dont know the words to Can You Feel a Brand New Day, save those 7 words. Im intrigued by Aveneu Q. Sounds perfect.
Godspell I originally thought sucked too. I saw the movie…I turned it off. I never knew how it ended. Then my school put it on and I was in it. Actually it was last week. It was really good. Plus I was there for two months from 9am-6pm. Thank god its over, but I miss it! -
D'ah!! I can't believe I forgot Cannibal the Musical! A classic. And the south Park movie's great, too. ;)

Wah! Most of you guys have mentioned some of my other favorites already. I'm HUGE musical junky.
RENT. Rent is most definitely the all time favorite here. I can't begin to explain how much this musical has had an affect on my life. Close behind are Phantom (see it on Broadway, the movie was only okay IMHO.) and Les Miserables. I'm embarassed to admit how many times I've seen each of these shows…
I also love Evita, Jesus Christ Super Star (it really does kick so much ass), 1776, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Wicked, The Lion King, Hair..As some of you mentioned, Moulin Rouge, Rocky Horror, and South Park also kick ass. And let's not forget Buffy's One More With Feeling! Hello Dolly and Annie have special places in my heart from high school.
I could have kicked myself for not seeing Aida while it was still on Broadway. And Monty and I are going to try and catch Spamalot while Tim Curry is still in it.

Oooooh! "It's a fiiiiiine life, carrying the banner of New York!" Ha, it's been at least 10 years since I watched that. I wonder what I'll think of it now.
-
The Music Man, Fiddler on the Roof, and Oliver. And the Buffy musical. XD I have a lot more but I'm blanking here. I did these community youth theater musicals every summer from 4th grade to 10th. Good times.
-
South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut.
-
God Let's see here….
Les Miserables- I LOVE the music the story and the Book (which I just finshed for English class). Sadly, It's the olny one I've seen....well, Beauty and the Beast, too.
Jesus Christ: Superstar- My uncle gave my a copy of the music and I fell inLOVE with it, but i've never actually seen it. :( i reallt wanna, tho
The Music Man- Great show. My old Middle school put it on in the sixth grade.
Footloose-well, cant say I exactly LIKED it, but my drama club put it on last year, and oh the memories.....
-
My all-time favourite musical would have to be the Sound of Music. I loved it when I was little, I still adore it now ^^
-
"The Pirates of Penzance" love that, "Jesus Christ Super Star", "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou" (George Clooney :) ) and "The Lion King" :P (though I've only seen the commercials, it looked good, and I wanted to go, but I never did… it's better than the animated version at least.)
.. I have to go see more musicals >_<EDIT: hmm.. I've just found the "Cats" soundtrack in my house.. how odd.. no one in my family has ever even seen that.. 0_o
-
The South park Movie and The Rocky horror Picture Show. So hilarious.
-
Sound of Music is the first thing that came into my mind. I really love the movie, no matter how many times I watch it I still never got bored with it.
-
Heh, I LOVE Cats! And The Sound of Music. My favourite, though, is a Danish musical built on "Treasure Island". I used to hear that one all the time when I was a kid.^^
-
Avenue Q, Evita&Rocky Horror Show.. They like own me.. :P
-
The musical I remember VERY vividly above all else is The Lion King. I saw it on Broadway and I could not have been more breathtaken by it. Never mind the fact that the musical itself was total brilliance (the 'animals' are amazing and just mindblowing to see in action), I was just completely in the mood when I was in the theatre - you know, actually on Broadway. It was just an omg-omg-I-could-die-NOW feeling for me.
Les Miz and Rent are two of my other favorites… Hairspray was another good one, I liked that. And I guess I'm obligated to say Oliver since I actually starred in that (I was Bet) but I err on that one.
-
I just saw JCSS for the first time as a play yesterday. Ive only listened to the pitch album and seen the hippie movie. I was impressed. Judas, Annas, Pilate, and Simon(who was also the director) had the best voices. Caiphas had an amazing range, but should have stayed a deep bass. Mary was good. Jesus…he was good except when he sang high. The bad part was they killed Herods song. He was laughing for 5 mins when he sang " And now I understand your god" which took away from it. Still I'd see it again.
-
Mamma Mia the Musical.
Watch it,biatches! -
I'd hafta say South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut!
I'm an immature little f*** .
-
I'd hafta say South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut!
Yeah, that movie was awesome…But Nightmare before Christmas is definately on par.
My favourite "real" musical is propably the Danish adaption of "the taming of the shrew", or the adaption of "Robin Hood". Both were extremely hilarious.
My least favourite is propably Cats. God, It was one of the most boring moments of my life. -
I just saw Cannibal! It definitely bumps South Park out of my #1 spot.
-
Either the Rocky Horror Picture Show, the Wizard of Oz or Labyrinth if you could call that a true musical.
-
How could I forget about the Nightmare Before Christmas!!!
BTW,did u know that Tim Burton is making a new movie called Corpse Bride with the same style as NBC?
-
Les Miserables - Holy crap, what an amazing play! I was singing along with some of the songs on the bus after my homeroom teacher let me borrow it. 'Master of the House' and 'Do You Hear the People Sing?' are classic. Hell, any scene with the Thenardier couple is priceless.
1776 - I didn't actually SEE it on Broadway, and it was slightly dumbed-down (a school-exclusive performance we were taken to see), but some of the comments in it allowed me to laugh out loud. "Let's go! Didn't you hear?! There're hookers lining the streets!" …Or something like that.
Oh yes, and South Park the Movie holds a place in my heart as well... XD
I've only heard the soundtrack of Jesus Christ Superstar, but it's simply stunning... And this is alot coming from me, who is Agnostic.

I saw the movie recently, and fell in love! I had already heard the soundtrack which i enjoyed and the movie was just so wonderful! Though i wish i could see the actual musical….
I've been wanting to see Les Miserables since i was a kid.... the soundtrack is nice!
Oh one of my fave musicals has to be Singin' in the Rain. I love all the musical numbers in there and i just enjoy watching Gene Kelly dance... and Donald O'Connor is awesome in that movie... wish i could see more musicals like this.
I also freakin' loved The Producers! that was the most hilarious movie I'd ever seen! i want to see the old version as well as the actual musical, that would be awesome....
-
The only musicals I've really seen (That I remember) are Little Shop of Horrors; and South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut…
So I suppose South Park is my favorite... Blame Canada holds a special little place in my heart; along with What would Brian Boitano do?; and Kyle's mom...
-
After having been to the Stage some more, I can add "Beauty and the Beast" to my most favourite musicals ever - as well as Phaaaaantom of the Opera is heeeere…inside your soul...
As for the Screen: Moulin Rouge and Corpse Bride!
-
@pirateneko:

ah finally someone mentioned the producers. i've seen both and the new one is better. the old one is like an hour shorter and isn't a musical. but instead of roger de bris playing hitler someone hippy with a high pitched voice possibly under the infulence of LSD plays hitler and it is so hilarious. but gene wilder was much better then matthew broderick(sp?). and one of my favorite lines from the original
franz liepken: hitler could dance the pants of churchill
-
The Producers.
"Dont be stupid be a smarty come and join the Nazi party!" -
Rent
Jesus Christ Superstar
Little Shop of Horrors - not my favorite or really awesome but it holds a nice spot in my heart because I actually performed in it.
Grease - see Little Shop
Godspell - see GreaseAlso Rocky Horror Picture Show was amazing on Broadway a couple years back.
-
I never been much of a musical fan, but I still got a few.
The Wiz and Grease. I pretty much like all of the songs from these two movies
Honorable mention: Yankee Doodle Dandy. Seen it a thousand times for some reason
I never seen "The Sound of Music". There was a TV promo featuring the "The Hills are Alive" mountain scene and right there, I knew I DID NOT want to see that movie.
-
Little Shop of Horrors
Interstela 5555
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Moulin Rouge
Cannibal! The Musical
South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut
Tommy -
I have not had the pleasure of viewing any musical upfront. As for the screen? Hmmm… let's see. I suppose the following would do:
My Fair Lady:
It's a classic, I tell you! Rex Harrison is such an amazing actor. Same can be said for Audrey Hepburn, she is what I would call, "terrific". ^^Moulin Rouge:
Aaah~! It has all the qualities of an excellent movie. The plot, the drama and let's not forget, the lovely songs (god, Ewan and Nicole make such a good pair. They really, really did amaze me).The Sound of Music:
What can I say? It's a wonderful movie with Julie Andrews at her best. The Fiddler on the roof:
I could not understand why Dad loved this movie so much, but when I took the initiative to watch it, I realised why. :laugh:P.S: To everyone who has seen "Les Miserables" upfront. I'd like to know: Is it very different from the movie or is it more of less the same? I've only seen the movie (and what a fantastic one it was) and am dying to know.
-
Few months ago a friend let me borrow Rocky Horror Picture Show. Holy shit, that was just grand. Even bought the DVD (the UK version apparently had one little scene added at the end, which I didn't know until I bought it).
The one who let me borrow it says I can pull off sounding like Richard O'Brian at the beginning (singing Science Fiction Double Feature. he was the one who sang it, right? well either way, that singer), but I don't really think so.
-
I really like west side story. It has the best plot of most musicalsi've seen.
