Marine-Navy: Resolved?

We've fought for ages over using MARINE as the name of the World Government's Navy. Is it passable English?

I may have located a way to make it work.

In the United States, the commercial shipping lines are the Merchant Marine. As I understand it, in the UK, they call it the Merchant Navy (please correct and ignore me if I'm wrong– it's based on me noticing that there were 'Merchant Navy' class locomotives named after shipping lines).

So we have a real-world situation where 'Marine' can be a synonym for 'Navy.'

But I've always seen it as…

Theres ONLY a sea force in One Piece, so specifieing it as being sea based....(Navy)...seemed stupid.
A word like Marine works both as basic military branch word, and an aquatic pun.

This was discussed before in the manga section…but I'll wait for someone who really knows what they're talking about to comment, because I don't really remember the details about it. But yeah, it's not really any big deal that Viz and 4kids use Navy, except for the fact that they're painting over artwork.
As for the English passability of "Marine", I don't really see why it has to be.

They're already synonymous, the US just had to make things difficult by making them different branches.

I really don't see what the point of bringing this debate up again is going to solve. It's not that big a discrepancy, and it's already been discussed in here. If you'd like to find the old thread and continue it there, that's fine, but it doesn't need a whole new one.
