Most/Least Traumatc/Sad Past for the Strawhats

I was watching the fourth OP opening and I thought of this: Which Straw Hat has had the saddest past? They've all been rightfully trauma'd, but who the most? Here's my rank, least to most:

7. Luffy: Shanks lost his arm, then left… not to much horror there.
6. Zoro: Yeah, Kuina died, but he still fights on in her honor, or something. Nothing too bad, in comparison to the others, anyway.
5. Usopp: His mother died, his father left. Sad, but not horrible.
4. Sanji: Starved on a rock, his soon-to-be mentor ate his own leg. Learned to never waste food. Hooray morals!
3. Chopper: His best (only) friend was poisoned... by Chopper himself. Then, he blew himself up. No friends. Pretty dang sad.
2. Nami: Now we get into the horrorble. Her entire town is taken over by pirates, and she watches her mother get shot in the head. Thrice.
1. Robin: Only survivor as she watched her entire island be unjustly genocide...ed. Yeah. No friends or family either, before that.

So, that's my analysis.

I have to agree with you on that List. Robin's past is the only one (well, except from Nami's and Chopper's) that makes me wanna squish the World Government flat. Or get Luffy to do it, that'd do a lot more damage psychologically ('cos the WG think he's weak) and physically (because he's actually potentially stronger than Whitebeard.)

Honestly, I haven't read up to Robin's nor Franky's flashbacks yet, but so far, Skypiea's past was pretty sad.

I have to say Robin and Nami's past was the saddest. I can't really choose between the two because while Nami/Robin had one thing that happened, the other didn't have an experience like that.
You probably don't get what I mean so here are some examples,

Nami had to act like a jerk and betray everyone she cared about, Robin I don't think really cared about the people she betrayed.

Robin was pretty much alone her entire life while Nami did actually have friends but couldn't be with them.

Nami spent 8 years of her life working for the very man she hated more than anything, Robin spent most of her life just running and hiding from the government not actually confronting them.

Robin lost all her friends and her mother, Nami still has her sister and friends.

There are a lot more things that I could list but that would take forever.

Nami and Robin- bawled my eyes out, Arlong Park my favourite Arc ever!
2)Chopper- made me cry a lot
3)Franky- I think losing Tom was the sad part because everything after that was his own choice
4)Zoro-poor guy, lost his best buddy
Sanji and Luffy- At least Shanks and Zeff are alive and well, at least Zeff is :wassat:

I didn't see/read Ussops past, so I can't really rank him.

I say Robin has the saddest past out of all of them. I cannot fathom how traumatizing it must have been for her to sail away with everything and everyone she had ever known burning away behind her…

After reading this topic though I think everyone else has a tie for me. (Except maybe Luffy, but then again I guess we don't know everything about his past? I didn't think about there being much more to his past until someone in this topic pointed it out.) I really didn't think a lot about some of the other stuff...

Luffy is a close runnerup because of the apparently hilarious child abuse garp put him through.

Yeah, Luffy probably denies the fact that he has a father like everyone else because Dragon possibly made Garp to train him as hard as possible, but we don't even know Dragon so deeply.

If I answer the title I'd have to say Robin too. It's just unimaginable to think of what she went through.
But.

Her past didn't appeal to me almost at all. It was like just words really, anybody could've just said "And so everybody went after her and she went through hell for 20 years." That's not creative or developed almost at all , so I didn't get emotional with it.
Now CHOPPER. God that was sad. Anyone can sympathize with him as everyone knew the DF stuff to the bone already and he was seen as a pure innocent victim of a chain of events, and the fact he's fucking cute [anime seen first here] didn't help much either. Also it used about.. 3-4 classic famous scenes, and actually CREATED 2 of them as far as I remember. Other than those 2 I know only 3 more for the entire series.

It's kinda a three way tie to me:

Saddest would have to be Robin, which is probably why it's my least favorite (but I still liked it)…Just too sad.

Franky's was probably the most traumatic, IMO; since he suffers physically and emtionally from it...Seeing Franky try to stop the train had to be one of the saddest moments I've seen, also.

Sanji's, because he was on that island for some long with nothing to eat; never moving to keep his strength; not looking at anything other than the ocean. And then, near the end, he tries to kill a man who's already dying for him...Pretty tramautic shit; no wonder he feels so indepted to him.

Usopp's situation, while it was very briefly shown, if you really try to think of what it would be like to see your mother die, and grow up all alone just waiting and hoping that your father will come back, that's terribly sad. Sometimes a long, stretched out period of lonliness is more painful that a brief moment of violent trauma.

I'm a dick, but for me, the most traumatic past is nami, because and ONLY because there's a small but sick part of my mind that tells me that Arlong and/or other Mermans owned her

Anyway, um, if Brook is a to-be-strawhat his story seems the least dramatic…sure, he died, as did his crewmates but Laboon is still alive. It's pretty much dark humour, and the fact we don't know any of the other crew like at all makes it even less sad. Not that I'm complaining. I hope we learn more of his past if he does join (or even if he doesn't)

Anyway, Luffy wasn't that upsetting (from what we know). Shanks lossed a arm, which is totally badass, and fucked up some Mountain Bandits.

Zoro is kinda...odd. Falling down stairs is pretty melodramatic, so it was kinda a "huh?" moment. It's somewhat sad, but nothing tear-jerking.

Sanji was kinda sad, but not permanently. He just became a cook after that event and didn't seem to be traumautized by it at all. Once again, a pirate losing a body part is seen as bad-assitute x10.

Usopp's revalation to why he lied was my first OP-caused tears, I admit. Besides that, his story was kinda plain.

Chopper was sad, as he got kicked out of the clan, and had his lone friend commit suicide after chasing him out.

Nami and Robin were both equally sad to me, imo. But Robin's had more effect on EVERYTHING.

Robin -> Chopper -> Nami -> Sanji -> Franky/Usopp -> Luffy -> (Brook) -> -> -> -> Zoro.

I think all the reasoning except for the order of the names can be found pretty well in the original post.

Robin witnessed the death of her (possibly) best friend, saw the destruction of her island, got slapped around liked a bitch as a child, became a wanted criminal at the age of 8, been bullied and called a witch by others. So, yeah, its Robin.

Oh, and Usopp's dad left him as a child. That would suck.

I think Chopper has the worst past, I mean, other raindeers kicked him away when he was young, and hated him even more after he ate the fruit, so, long time in loneliness, not only hated by the deers but by the humans too, considered a monster. Then, after finding his only friend, he poisoned the doctor trying to save him, and he exploded without making his dream true, very horrible I think….
