from Bangkok.(I have freind who learn thai boxing and he can beat everyone in my class.)(and that the proof that thai boxing is the best.) B)
-
I used to but I lost my interest toward exercising (I've become such a nerd B)). Brazilian Ju-Jutsu was my other sport and I was perhaps more into it. Although I still sometimes find myself watching K-1, Pride, UFC, Sumo and stuff like that.
-
Muay Thai would be fun to learn, but I'm not sure if anyone around here teaches it.
-
but i got some words to say ..if you guys learn thai boxing, and wanna be good and strong ..you need a true heart and you really like it and to learn it .. and..why i learn old village thai boxing ..?because ..i have to fight for money ..while i was in village ..i had to fight for money … but luckily , i can go to hong kong hehe...but i don't wanna explain why i can go hong kong ... and learn thai boxing don't think it's for playing ..you have to train with true heart ..then im sure ,no1 can win you ..NO LAZY HEARTED :D...you know what ..?hehe ...3months thai boxing could win 10 years Karate ..Believe it or not?you'll try it yourself and you'll know :D ..
-
It really depends. If you devote a lot of time to Karate it will pay off, but if you just keep something like Karate as a side hobby you never will be very good at it.
Martial Arts is not a sport, it's a way of life. And I firmly believe this.
-
you are right..but if you devote more time on thai boxing, you will be more stronger….and....if you're newbie and think it's a side of hobby, you just learn abit, and you can already beat down some karate..taek kwon do..and many.....Karate and Taek kwon do takes long time to pratice to get good, but Taek kwon do will never be good...taek kwon do leg is just fast and nice,(no energy...)im sure of it...i had fight wit my taek kwon do master belt like black belt, some teachers of it,i fight with many taek kwon do black belter...they all know nothing...Karate ive fighted 1 before, also a black belter....just started in 1 sec, they do nothing, and when i punch and he just try to hug me like a stupid guy,and i use Muay thai hug tricks, that moving people's neck and use the knee and hit on their head ,waist, stomache and many...i finished that Karate guy in under 10sec if i remember..... because most of my frd introduce me to go to other Martial arts learning place to challenge the people, and i did challenge...i havent lose to karate, taek kwon do,brazil something something ,judo and free fight.....Brazil jit ju su(or something i don't know how to spell) their leg just only nice and for dancing, can't fight....sorry for saying those words to say about martial arts, but im just telling the truth....
-
I'm a Black Belt in TKD but I have seen so many incredible practitioners of TKD over the years. The late General himself was an excellent martial artist dispite his stature. The man was punching wooden polls well into his 70's.
There are many different ways to learn how to fight, it doesn't always have to be about strong punches and round kicks (whatever you call them).
You've seen Shaolin monks do hand stands on their fingers, right? That ain't just for show, just think what those fingers could do to someones abdomen. Doing an arranged set of moves and kicking a bag around will only help to some extent, (not much at all) but there is much more to it than that. Physical fitness, strength, conditioning (important), practise, reflexes and balance all come together to make you a strong martial artist.
I'm a big fan of the old way of training which simply does not happen any more. Martial arts like Karate have become inreasingly weaker in recent times. How many people go into the bushes to train for 3 years like MASUTATSU OYAMA anymore? This guy killed 50 bulls and chopped off the horns of 3 of them with knife hands, he could also chop a river stones clean in half. A good Muay Thai fighter wouldn't stand a chance against this guy maybe a exceptional one, but just good wouldn't cut it.
-
People don't go in bushes for 3 years anymore…...I wonder why......:P
Thai style sounds interesting, and there's a gym a few cities from me, but I don't think I'll be learning from Cane Douglas. :P
-
it's other people's stuff, not you…. and they haven't match, you don't know how many muay thai boxers are in this world ...and you said the guy chopped a river stone into half or something ,thats only him...and will there be 1 more him?but muay thai boxers has like more than millions in this world ...what if millions of thai boxers get him,he won't get a chances to win... And i've beaten so many TKD black belters...too easy to finish them ...
i guess you never see how Old village thai boxing train...the 1 you watched in ong bak....it is way more tired to train.....and learning TKD is a very relax stuff....thats what my friend said .....and i looked how they train, thats too relax ... go to thailand's village and see how tired ....and thailand had many more scary stuff ,that you never seen before ....you heard of thailand curses??knife can't blade in ,gun can't shoot in , pure your strength ,make you fighting more good ...i guess you never see or try before ...cause it's inside village, not showing to every1 ...
Shaolin Kung fu is good ,i admit it ... but TKD ,Karate or something other,i won't think it will be good ....
maybe you guys watched interview of the other martial arts much in tv...cause those martial arts is not dangerous martial arts and it's for kids learning....so ...its on tv all the time ....
if you had a chance fight with a old village thai boxers or thai boxers ..you will understand what the words you see from what i type means......
i don't wanna argue with you .... just think this as a talk ... if it's in rl ,i will change to another person ....but in pc i will try to relax....
-
Muay Thai is one of the more efficient and damaging martial arts. Not to mention potentially VERY LETHAL.
-
Yeah, it kicks ass, so I'd be interested in learning, but I don't think that "Old Village" thing is something that can be found in Florida. I'll just see how far I get with grappling. :P

Ya live in florida? Nice… I've been in Miami, and some other place in florida, it was like heaven compared to sweden. Im going to florida again at the fall/autumn.
Thai boxing is cool, really cool.
-
I found a place around here that teaches Muay Thai, but i dunno if my parents would be interested in me learning it..
-
Just be like "Is good fo' mah bawwwwdeh." They'll understand.
I live close to Miami, Solid. But some of that city isn't nearly as nice…
-
I know two TKD guys who have both competed in Thai Boxing matches. They both won, one of the guys with a knock out by flying reverse back kick.
There are good practicianers in all martial arts. Admittedly, not all of them just stick to their styles.
Black belts in TKD are a dime a dozen. Same with any martial art which uses that system. Some of them are good and some are not so good it all depneds on how much they train. I do TKD which is a good foundation, but I'm mostly self taught.
I'm not disputing whether or not Thai Boxing is as good as you say it is, I KNOW THIS. And given the chance, I'd love to learn this "old village" Muay Thai, it really does sound awesome.
-
muay thai is good but not as good as old village's 1 … but i had some clip that Muay thai versus TKD ,and TKD loses in all matches...if you want to watch the clip,pm me,i will send to you to have alook and describe...
heres some pic of old village thai boxings..i posted those pic in the thread called "ONG BAK" before .... just posting it and show ya...(using those trick has to train over 10years and use it fast and strong...)Paramadean

I'd personally recommend anything with mat wrestling or grappling. It may not look cool or flashy - usually two sweaty and half-naked grown man are just lieing on the top of each others (not fitting if you are a homofobic though ;)) - but it's actually as effective a martial art can get. Being able to punch and kick is nice but you can't do nothing when a good fighter wants take you down and submit you.
But the best self-defence art is sprint or maraton running, although nothing beats KungFu Jesus (scroll down and click "free", the download begins in a minute)
-
the only way to K.O people is punch ,kick, knee ,elbow …but..im thinking 1 thing....will you use wrestling infront of your gf or other pretty girls??if they looked you used, they will feel shame or doesn't look good ...and using punch kick, knee, elbow could K.O people in 1sec ~ any min ...but locking people takes time...if you wanna do wrestling, you need a big body size and muscles...but old village thai boxing know all the way to get off from people's lock ...but you guys haven't see yet...or you can watch "ONG BAK" (a movie) for what old village thai boxing is ;) ..and you'll understand....
-
the only way to K.O people is punch ,kick, knee ,elbow
You can knock out people without throwing any punchs though. Strangling is very effective.
will you use wrestling infront of your gf or other pretty girls??
True but I'd happy just for getting away from the situation in a lame way than failing attempt to do something cool and then getting ass spanked. And nevertheless in Finland you probably get just sued if you punch somebody, even if it's for self-defence :P.
and using punch kick, knee, elbow could K.O people in 1sec
Supposing you get a clear hit which never happens
….but locking people takes time
Yep, although I've seen fights lasting only few seconds before submission but it's rare.
if you wanna do wrestling, you need a big body size and muscles
The size matters, always. But when I still used to practise I did sometimes spar with females too and I often end up losing to them (yeah, lame, I know). These chicks were like 55 kg and I'm 80 kg but they were good. Besides when you wrestle with ladies there are certain areas you just don't grab and girls had usually sweaty t-shirt on (dunno if they knew but nipples were fully visible, talk about getting distracted! life is harsh).

I would like to try that…. But then I need really tight underwears... :P

I'm 73 KG, and there aren't any girls my size, but the few times I did wrestle girls (I was 69 and they were 60 KG), they were butch as all Hell, so I had no problem with holding back. :P
Joe, dude, I'm gonna work all summer and save up money to get you a ticket to Coral Springs so you can teach me.

But not all situations are that easy to get out of. Maybe that's the only option for someone like you all the time.
You certainly act like you know a lot, but you really don't know anything. I don't even want to start pulling your posts to bits, it'd take too much time.
"durrr, let's all go out and learn westling and how to run marathons"
-
TKD has a weakness ,can't use hand ,the and they never learn the blocking tricks …if it's in street fight ..will you put your hands down and play TKD rules with your enemy?the enemy is not your match enemy, its a real enemy...got what i mean ...?and TKD are not good in punching too...if the area is too near, they don't know how to hug and punch...but ..Thai boxing and old village thai boxing can use knee while hugging the enemy ..and punching if the direction is close....do my words make sense....?

You certainly act like you know a lot
I do not no much, never said I know. I haven't practised any martial art in a few years.
Grappling is often undervalued for some reasons. It's not the best self-defence art there is, at least against multiple opponents or a weapon, but it's definitely handy for any fighter. There is a good reason why Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu used to dominate ultimate fighting scenes and it still does, most of the fighters were just confused after a take down. And I did say I had practised thai boxing too, didn't I, although not more than three or perhaps four years. It's good excercise with practical and powerful techniques but I just did find BJJ more fun and effective.
For a pure self-defence Krav Maga rules. But me likes Aikido, more peaceful.
Edit:

Yeah, that's why I was such a lame ass. But you know what, at first I though there were cute, who wouldn't love to wrestle with ladies especially when you are 16 (well, I was back than) and the "girls" are about 26.

Better to learn something like Shaolin KungFu :P.
-
learning shaolin kung fu is pretty wasting time ..but if you earn the time with good pratice ..im sure you will be a great fighter…
now i tell you the different goods of different martial arts (in my thoughts and my teachers of old village thai boxing...)
Wrestling -- Good at 1 on 1 ...(you have to use it well..don't let people punch you)..(cannot be used when 2 on 1 or more..) Hint:watch out your back ..
Locking people -- Good at 1 on 1 (you have to be locking people as making them no power to attack you back..)..(cannot be used in 2 on 1 or more) Hint :if your enemy had a weapon ,you better drop his weapon and lock him..
Taek Kwon do -- Good at fighting people who doesn't know kung fu ..but if you found some people who had high strength, and used punch,im sure TKD is out...But if there is a guy or girl very talented ..and good ..maybe he could take 2 or 3 people maximum...
Hint:Pratice more your leg energy, put up your hand, block the face before people K.O you...Karate -- Good at 1 on 1 ..but all karate does is only punch once ...so if he/she missed,he is gonna be dead fish(cannot be used at 2 on 1 or more)
Thai boxing -- Good at fighting Multiple people ...such as 1 on 4 or 5 ..using thai boxing to make your body strong ,no matter what, how many punches people hit you,you will stay cool and feel nothing..your hand be faster, your leg be faster, your strength be stronger, your leg hit harder and stronger ,make you had more energy .. (if a newbie learning thaiboxing for few months or 1 year ,he could take 2 people maximum if he trained well ..)if you see weapons ,thai boxing can use front step on the face,hand,leg,stomache..to make a far distance,or make him fall down .. Talented people can take 1 on 10~14 ... thai boxing can hug and using knee ,if you're getting locked with people's ..if you have place to use knee...
Hint:watch out people's hiden attackFree fight : Depends how good you are ...born to fight?
Brazil Jiu jitsu : I watched the clip of their fight ..and they fight like dancing ...but their leg has no energy...cause jumping too much and too slow...if a thai boxer or a people know how to use under kick to the leg,you will be fallen down .. Hint : watch out your leg and face ,or not you're gonna get K.O in a sec!!
Old village thai boxing : good at 1 on 15~20 ..movements quick,strong,trickful..old village thai boxing train 17hours aday...Old village thai boxing has many tricks ,there is 146 tricks ..and most of the tricks are for killing people...but nowadays too dangerous ...so those tricks are not allowed ... Old village Thai boxing made up ..because the gods ...it is for using to fight when there is a war ...so the tricks were make up to kill people in the war ... there is flying knee ,flying elbow ,flying kick, flying punch ,hugging knee, hugging kick,Elbow + knee ,and many many more ..that no1 know what they'll do next ..it could be fightable 10people or more ..because old village thai boxing has trick that 1 hit K.O people (i guess you guys never see before, the 1 you watch in ONG BAK ,that is also 1 of the 1 hit K.O trick) Old village thai boxing has teached using weapons, locking, punching, kicking, elbow, kneeing, climbing and hit ,and it could be used very fast ..
Hint : watch out 50~100s peopleShaolin Kung fu : Good at 1 vs 10~20 ...Body Air defense, make things can't hurt you is 1 of the good things ..attack raise up ...and strengthful ..i don't know much about shaolin kung fu ,so i better not say too much ,i might be wrong ...
Judo -- only good at 1 on 1 ..it could make people fall down and feel the pain of the floor ,and you need energy and relax minded, and quick..
Hint :watch out people hold weapons and people use punch, kickBruce Lee -Jit Kun do -- Fast ...other i don't know ..(Bruce lee used fast)
Chinese Kung fu -- i don't know..
-
Since this has become a martial art thread and I've become a bit inspired by the topic here's a few highlighst videos made by the people of Sherdog, kinda like anime music videos :P. I hope this won't hammer the server though, probably does.
Royce Gracie. One of the famous Gracies.
Igor Vovchanchin. Anything with a Russian name is cool.
Hayato Sakurai. Got to love Japanese fighters, they're always so flashy and fast. -
lol japanese people are the most weak people in the world ….don't believe that ..? check out this link ...look this ..this thailand guy ,Matched 170 times ,won 155times ,loses 15 times .....
The thailand guy is the black body 1 ..he matched with 3 or 4 japanese guy in this clip and 1 usa guy ....you will see how suck is a japanese people ..(in fighting) ...http://www.compfused.com/directlink/388/
and before i watch in Live show in thailand ..1 japanese boxer vs a thailand boxer ..and the japanese guy were champion in japan…and he came to fight with the thailand boxer (not famous) ...and then just started between 20 sec ..the thailand guy beated him down and he cried and he forfiet the match ...such a shame for a boxer!!!
i watched the clip that you writen got to love japanese fighters.....look how shame they fight, while fighting, they hide down and act like defense and hold people leg,it's like a gay fight.....they afraid to fight face to face....
and you watched those japanese fight like a machine ,let me show you, what is a real machine of thai boxing ..."Ramon dekker" 200matches ,175wins ,25loses
And look ,Ramon dekker boxing gloves is so big, still can K.O people ...what if he wear the gloves like those UFC free fight...? -
Uh, I wouldn't say Japanese people are inherently weak… and I've seen Thai fighters get their asses kicked before.
-
yes there are some thai people losed before, but not to japan people … i've matched 21times in hong kong ,won 20 and losed 1 ...and i had 6matches fighting japanese people ...wanna know how old are they?24~26 ,and 140pds matches ...and im only 16years ...i beat all of them down ....i've matched with Hk people for 9matches ,europe people 5matches and japanese peoples 6 matches and the last fight i losed from my friend ..a thailanders...that time i matched with him but i losed ..i got knocked by him ...cause old village thai boxing has trick to K.O people with 1 sec ..and i was careless ...and i losed ....you wanna see his face, just look at post yer pic's ..his face is there ..the golden hair ...
-
Hm. So would you say that that kid is the best fighter out of your friends?
-
he is the best ,but in my friends some of them is better than me …some is cheaper than me ... im a middle .. my that friend is only 19 ..maybe he is still too young...
