TW's Episode 2 is out.
Watch it instead of Live-Evil (it's better )
There is yet another alternative. C1 is also subbing the show.

If c1 does a good job it'll be my next speedsub choice
LiveeviL was by no means bad but TW was a step up.

never said the group was bad
i just said TW > Live-eviL
@Cyringohn:
The most common excuse is "'Light' sounds stupid, since it's English." It's sad when "foreign words just plain sound better" is a popular reasoning.
It's not just that. It's also that you don't hear Light as a common name. And more indepth about that, usually you don't hear things like "Light" or anything like that so it sounds ridiculous to those who know Engrish vocab.
People don't understand the hidden meanings of names and therefore decide that they are right and the authors are wrong.
isn't the Authors the one that gave their creation their names? if the Author said so and so is this name, how come people can still dispute it?
isn't the Authors the one that gave their creation their names? if the Author said so and so is this name, how come people can still dispute it?
Because some people are just stupid.
Within the twelve volumes of the comic did the authors ever really touch the subject of whether Light's actions, which of course were of the evil, made the world a better place or not?
! The author comments on this multiple times in the story. When Light stopped killing for two weeks, crime rates surged dramatically throughout the world. Near the end of the manga, Light comments that crime rates dropped 70% since he started killing. Of course, the argument against him was that everyone was living in a world of fear.
TW's sub was awesome. They kept the cool shinigami font from v2, but used the "Ryuk" spelling.
Because they think Light sounds stupid and think that the author didn't romanize it properly even though it clearly shows a secondary meaning behind it.
I know Toriyama's World's translator (AKofTroy) online and in real life, and I'm 100% sure he would never take Raito/Ryuuku as an option. We even had a stubborn discussion with some people in TOWNL in the past about similar thing, too. By the way, that link would lead you to the interesting discussion and tell you what's going on behind the scene of creating names in Death Note, so you should read it :)
I talked to some TW staff, and he said they made v2 only because people complained about the font color (yellow). He said he prefer v1 as the final product. From epi2, though, I heard they used white font color with correct name spellings.
They use a white font for humans. In ep 1v2 and ep 2, they use a semi-crooked looking black font for shinigami.
Yeah, I saw their v2. Reminds me of Orange Tangerine's scanlation from back then XD
Honestly, who's ever heard of the name L? It's the same concept. unless you call him Eru because "L isn't a name", then you're a total dumbass.
this is gonna sound really nitpicky, but IMHO, TW's karaoke looked 10 times better in all caps (like in Episode 1)
I think it's better to express your opinion in TOWNL, since TW folks seem to be checking there (but not here). … Just a suggestion.
I don't normally like to curse, but this anime is bitchin'.
yamaguchi's L is awesome!
I didn't even remember that! XD Yeah, I thought L sounded awsome for some reason…

You should blame Viz for perpetuating that kind of reasoning.
Apparently the "to be continued" screen right before the ED is cut out in both the TW and LE sub, which is wierd considering it's in the RAW I have. I wonder why that is.

Hey, don't keep bring that up. At least VIZ is keeping all the original name spellings, and guess what? The translator for VIZ's Death Note is our favorite guy, AKofTroy, who also translates DN anime now ^^b (He at least edited the English for some volumes, and translated some other volumes.)
Viz lets there translators do fansubs? Man viz is a really cool company. I know one of the guys hands out scanlation links (for jojo) on his site, and now one fansubs anime. Holy crap.
Well viz probably doesn't know, but its cool to know there employees "break" the law like we do.
VIZ probably knows, since probably scanlation is how he got into the business. Same for stephen, he transaltes for TokyoPop but he still translates whatever he likes.
Now let's go back to the topic ^^; Does anyone have single rip of OP/ED? I want them… :|

Right Here
If you were asking for the full versions, then i dunno…
heh, looks like a full version of the OP was added.
sweet! it wasn't there yesterday. downloads
EDIT: it isn't working for me. it saves after 37% and I only get 1:23 of it. anyone else having this problem? (YES, I did download the right file)

Yeah, it happened to me too. My guess is the file got uploaded wrong.

I don't like it when people stick foreign words into an English sentence with deliberate knowledge that the person he/she is speaking to has no idea about what the term means. It's smug/elitist; Viz had a history (prior to the Shueisha equity purchase) of doing this with attack names, specifically, Ranma's martial arts (like "Juusenkyo or Hiro Shoten Ha"). After Shueisha's aquisition, I became angry when I read a press release involving one of their marketing strategies; it was something along the lines of, "we're trying to turn shonen into an English word, where little kids ask 'what's shonen' and we say, 'wouldn't you like to know'".
As far as I'm concerned, the best translations involved keeping original Japanese terminology while adding one of those astericks indicating the meaning at the bottom of the page, because that minimizes the loss of information from translation. TOKYOPOP and Del Rey always do this, so I'm not sure why Viz makes so many switches between styles.

Isn't he the same person responsible for OP's pitiful situation in America?
They probably don't have the guideline for the translators. I'm aware that some of the VIZ translators over-localize the translation, whereas others pretty kept much closer to majority of scanlation style. Reference. In a way, it'll be totally up to the translators if the series would turn out good or bad.
Isn't he the same person responsible for OP's pitiful situation in America?
I wouldn't say so. I do agree that AK hates One Piece for life, but One Piece has been running two years prior to Naruto, so what were scanlators back then been doing? Even if AK started to promote Naruto frantically when the series first came out and bash One Piece, One Piece fan had two extra years to promote it. (I don't think AK bashes One Piece before Naruto age or was he famous… but I don't know.)
If you're a hardcore scanlation fan, you know both AK and stephen are two big guys out there, or so I think, and considering that omae/Greg has/had a big Dragon Ball site (or that's what heard?), he could've been a big influence for One Piece, too. And how couldn't they influence Narutards back?
In other word, I don't think someone can influence others enough to like or dislike the series. I mean, how many people would go TW's forum to read whatever AK says? >.> My gf's siblings love Naruto and has been reading it since TW was still scanlating it, but I doubt any of them knows AK nor do they care what he says. My gf herself, too. She loved One Piece back then (I liked Naruto when she liked OP), but once she started to read Naruto, she abandoned One Piece (and I abandoned Naruto XD). Considering Naruto is targeting preteens-teens mainly, whereas One Piece is a little bit more for high-teens and up (even though it can be appreciated by all ages :) ), and the fact that majority of scanlation readers are preteens-college kids in English speaking world (at least when Naruto started), and the fact that One Piece is a little bit of a slow starter + unusual drawing... I think all that resulted in less OP popularity among English readers. I mean, I read OP v1 quite a long time ago, but I didn't like it. It wasn't until I was bored to death and my friend forced me to read more volumes of One Piece that I started to like it.
Back on topic, Inferno, that site doesn't let me download unless I register for it :/

Register then. I'd say its worth it. They get new OP/EDs and other songs pretty quick.

After studying linguistics for so many years, Gohn has decided that such things are idiotic. One would think that a linguist places the utmost importance upon words, but it can be quite the opposite. "Light" is just a series of sounds and mouth motions, just the same as "Raito" and "toilet seat". Disliking "Light" because it is in English makes as much sense as disliking the name "Korbish" because it rhymes with "fish".
this one wasn't done by me
but Lind likes to PARTY hard
The Spoilers are there for your own safety so don't click on them while drinking

It's idiotic, but people don't like it anyway, and declare themselves godly enough to know what's right and wrong.
Now I'm done with my explanation and I'm gonna start drinking and partying hard.

Still need to try alcohol, eventually. Hmmmmm.
Episode 3 this week. Here's hoping the animation is better quality than episode 2's. It wasn't bad, but not nearly as good as the first episode.

so, what's next? checks manga
ah, yes, the
! Shinigami eye-trade scene…plus Light's dad comes homeit should be interesting.
! 1st L makes Light loose his mind
I'm not sure I know what you are talking about Taleran.
! But we should get more NPA action as well(along with the eyes deal and Light's dad), which means Ryuk and Matsuda should be getting plenty of screen time. Can't wait.
! the whole 1st meeting / tennis game the whole "I'm L" bit
! You're way ahead of youself. That dosen't happen until volume 3.
right whoops I forgot about that part in the middle volume 2 was really awsome
Yeah, I like the volume 2 stuff too.
! It's amazing how much little time there is before Light and L meet though.
It makes it even more interesting when it happens sooner
! Especially when L went up to him in board daylight and said "I am L." Though I can't wait till the raye panber death scence where light tricks him into basically killing himself and the other fbi agents
EDIT: Ah, damn damnit…
Heh, the anime seiyuu cosplaying as their characters: http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/docs/20060928/death.htm
woah. Kappei Yamaguchi's older than I last remembered.

ah, yes. one of the most anticipated parts for me.
! "Farewell, Raye Penber."
and yes, the
! "I am L" scene and the tennis match should be great too.
