I am in the process of writing a story, and I was wondering if y'all could help me out:
1. Does anyone (particularly those of you living in Japan) know of a restaurant in Japan where they serve fugu? (Fugu is puffer fish, right?)
2. Has anyone here ever eaten fugu?

3. (Three is a bit different) What are some activities that could result in death? (ie, eating fugu) I'm not looking for stuff like skydiving or rockclimbing. I want activities that are accessible to the average Joe, and where there is a real potential risk of death. Think along the lines of Russian Roulette.

But I'm not looking for "dangerous" so much as "risky," I think.
Something like consuming coca cola and poprocks - but real.

playing golf despite of a thunderstorm

(Going along with the golf thing) Playing baseball during a lightning storm with an aluminum bat (somebody in my area actually has died from this).

But basically everything you do from the moment you wake up has the potental to cause serious damage or death-even riding a bike, driving a car, making coffee, leaving your car on with the garage door closed, slipping while taking your shower and slamming your head against the wall, etc…..

Erm, well unfortunately the best I can come up with are things like laying in the center of the road as traffic goes by, sticking tweezers in the electrical outlet, stuff like that. Or heck, just running across a highway.

As for the fugu, I watched a show on Food Network a while back that was about this guy who would travel different places and try some of the more outlandish food and he went to a restaurant the served fugu but I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the place. But the name of the show was "A Chef's Tour", I believe, if you'd like to look it up that way. I also did a google search and found a mention of one place, Isami Fugu outlet in Shinjuku, which sounds like a chain or something, which is weird. The same article listed Shimonoseki as Japan's "Fugu capital", so you might try researching that place, too.

Ooo, yeah, there's one: driving the wrong way on a street or even a freeway. I think I remember hearing a report a while back about a British woman that drove some unthinkable distance the wrong way on a highway or something, and she'd thought that everyone else had been going the wrong way. Nutty.

Does it have to be intentionally putting oneself in danger? Or just things people do that are potentially/generally unsafe?
I'll stick to the latter.
Seeking shelter under a tree in a thunderstorm or hiding under an overpass in the face of an oncoming tornado. Raising a ruckus in a bar (redneck bar gets you extra danger points). Crossing against the light. Swimming in the river/creek/pond/quarry (submerged stuff to get caught on and drown). Sunbathing (a stretch, yeah). Hitching a tow from a passing car/truck while on a skateboard/skates/bike.

I seem to recall that, while I was back in high school, some people had this thing where they would get on the hood of a car while somebody else was driving and stand up, sometimes when the car was going 60 or so mph. I don't know anybody that actually did it, but I remember classes I was in being told not to do by teachers. Somebody might have even got injured doing it, which might have been why they warned us against doing it. I probably never would have even heard of it otherwise.

I think it was called car surfing, but it didn't catch on because not many people are quite that stupid.

What's that game called where you put your hand on a table and stab the table between your fingers? Is that a game, or just something I've seen people do on TV?

60mph? I've been of a hood when I was catching a ride to my car and my friend went 40. He hit a speed bump and I flew over the hood of his car and onto the street….it sucked.

60 if you hit a penny on the road the person would die.

Speaking of that, I didn't think of this before, but there's eating mochi. You wouldn't think of it as a dangerous activity, but sometimes if you're eating a big long one, it'll get stuck in your throat. It seems to mostly get the elderly, and every New Year there's a statistic, "how many old people did the mochi do away with this year?".

Bloody knucles is when pu your knuucles face down on a table then you flick a quarter at the person's knucles realy hard and fast.

Yeah, I'm not sure what they call that though; I debated suggesting that, but it doesn't seem life threatening.

Oddly enough, my dad was talking to somebody today whose husband had nearly lost his finger doing that, but with a hatchet rather than a knife. A freakin' hatchet!

I'm pretty sure that they said 50 or 60, from what I recall hearing, the idea was to get the car going fast enough that you could lean forward against the wind. Hence, the surfing.

It's been a while though, so I might be getting some of that wrong. Again, I don't know anybody that did it (at least to my knowledge).
