he's always been called eggman in Japan I think. The first time they used the name in America was Sonic Adventure.

Why do so many of you guys hate Sonic? I've asked this before, but it still bugs me. To each his or her own however.
Can't you guys just appreciate Sonic for his classic Genesis games? Unless you just don't like Sonic, I understand that. I don't like Jigglypuff, but that won't and never has stopped me from play Smash Bros.!
I want this game so badly. Now I can play out a true Mario vs. Sonic epic battle of the century! ^_^

I see your point Pass the Rootbeer. Sonic comes of as a show-off and hotshot and that can get annoying. Personally, I just like him for his classic games and his iconic status. I don't pay attention to his "personality" or his newer games. That's just me though.
I'm also glad that Sonic has his classic sound effects and game abilities.

He sounds like Drummond more then Griffith in that video, imo.
I'm guessing tommorow may be info on something unconfirmed that was seen in the trailer, or hopefully moves for Sonic or Lucas.

I'm not too upset about him being in, but as long as they're using SFX from the Genesis Sonic games, they could've at least used his Genesis character design and made him a mute, taking out 90% of the things people hate about him.

Problem with that is Mario vs Sonic now is a little bit like these dream match ups between boxers, if you wait too long you end up with horribly one sided fights because one guy suffered a streak of devastating losses and is now a punch drunk over the hill hobo while his opponent is still the undisputed champion.

Sonic was fine before he became associated with horrible rock songs, shitty games, and some of the worst secondary [and, sadly, primary] characters in existence: Shadow, Silver, all those dumb new animals from the Sonic Adventure series, etc.
If Sega would grow some fucking testacles and revert back to the old canon, where it was just Sonic & Tails [maybe Knuckles, even though he's really lame too] vs. Dr. Eggman, we'd be in business.

Basically this is how I feel about Sonic, which is why I haven't touched a Sonic game after the first Sonic Adventure. They added too many unnecessary things that just made the games even worse.
I was expecting Sonic to show up in Brawl anyway; I don't see why people are surprised he's in it. Sonic looks pretty fun to play as, he'll most likely be the speediest character out of the roster. Good thing they gave him at least some things from the old games though.

Sonic Adventure (1 & 2) were Awesome games, I loved them, And of Course, I have Sonics 1-3 and SnK on the Genesis. It's Heroes and Beyond that the games Got Sucessively Shittier, and now Sonic just sucks…
And as far as the release date goes, we Don't Know anything yet, supposedly there's a North American Version of the same Press conference as last night, tonight (or soon) we SHOULD get our Release date then, and it could only be like a week delay...
Eh, I'm a Hellsing Fan though, I've gotten used to things I want being Delayed... so this doesn't phase me that much...

Sonic games have always been… Shitty to me. You pretty much went through the old ones by holding right down and occasionally jumping. Yeah, that sounds like a lot of fun. At least some of them had Tails, who's a lot better. I don't think I have to go into these newer games, and why they're so shitty, so I won't waste my time.
I also like his moves, especially since they all looked the same. Spindash, spindash on someone, spindash in the air, it just goes on. And that annoying sound when he jumps, I just hope they're only when he jumps on that bumper thing (the name escapes me). Also, did anyone else think how wrong it is that Sonic upstaged everyone in that vid? We didn't even see him get hurt.
One more thing, looks like characters have victory poses. I doubt what they did were taunts, since they seemed to interact with each other.

The old ones were moderately challenging.
I found the first 2 3d ones to be entertaining, yet pretty brain dead simple.(sometimes tedious)
Then shadow the hedgehog came along, which like broly to dragonball as Carter put it, is the embodiment of everything that went wrong with the series, and what people mindlessly worship and fan squeel about it.
The new 2d ones are ok, but the robots just aren't fun and interesting like they were in the original.
Stil holding out on that sonic DS RPG though. if that fails, there really is no more hope for sonic in my eyes anymore

Sonic looks fun, though I wonder if his rolling attack is hard to control (Obviously it'll be charged up, perhaps too much and you'll fly off the screen) From the footage they have up it looks like his moves draw mainly from the old games (rolling, and bouncing) as well as a few basic kicks and punches. But one of the pictures suggests his breakdancing attacks from Sonic Battle might be used (they'd be great for the c-stick)
My only problem is that Sonic brings with him his 4Kids voice actor and the crappy music.
I do wonder what his level will be. Perhaps the Green Hill Zone can be made into a level. Although some of his levels from the Adventure series are pretty cool, like the bay with the prison and all the missiles launching.
The new trailer looked good too. I liked seeing the Dixie trophy, hopefully she'll be an assist trophy.

Can't say I wasn't surprised when I scrolled down and saw Sonic today. I was expecting him, but it was still a bit of a surprise.
My only problem is that Sonic brings with him his 4Kids voice actor and the crappy music.
I liked the music in Sonic Rush, but I doubt anything from that'll be in Brawl.
Also, are we sure that was Jason Griffith? If it is, he sure sounds better in Brawl than he did in other recent games.

I just noticed something weird about that Sonic vid. Part of it shows Mario using Fluud, but after he's done firing, it's still on his back. Usually when characters do moves like that, the item goes away after the move is done… Pretty weird.

I noticed that Aldrich has compared Sonic to Poochie. That's not really a fair comparison IMHO. Sonic is an old-school video game mascot. He's the mascot of SEGA for crying out loud! He's definitely not new and contrived like Poochie. Crash Bandicoot fits that mold much better.
On the same note, Sonic is a fan requested character. I highly doubt that he would have been added just for the hell of it had there not been any fan requests for him. The demand for Sonic was high. Poochie wasn't exactly demanded. The Itchy and Scratchy people pulled him out of their asses.
Sorry for the lecture. I'm not mad at anyone, I just had to get that off my chest. I had to defend Sonic! Now you guys can have at me.
