Sony is really getting on my nerves. They dare to call it "true innovation"? I had the same thing on my Gameboy years ago. Kirby Tilt and Tumble. And at the beggining, they said that the Wii was a gimmick. Wow. Cant wait to hear what Reggie has to say about them.

With $600, I can buy an X-Box 360 AND a Wii, and still have $100 to spend.

A favorite past time of mine has been going through magazines when the jump was made to 64, Saturn and PS.

Among the countless naysayers like seen above were comments like:

500 USD is a LOT of money for a game console, especially for the stripped down version. It's is a dangerous level for a game console, and here's why: With a $500 budget, you can get an inexpensive PC and add a decent $200 graphics card, which means you have quality gaming AND other cool features. The PS3 will play games, and all THREE of the Blu-Ray movies (hmmm… Blue Ray movies... Kuroobi porn? ) out there, but you can't do work on it, you can't surf the web in a COMFORTABLE manner, you can't store your media collection on it.

I want a machine that plays games and maybe DVDs. At this moment in time I don't care about Blu-Ray.

I knew for a while the PS3 was going to be expensive but not this expensive. It's slightly annoying as I am interested in the new Sonic game but now won't be able to play it (at this moment in time the new Sonic game is the ONLY 360 game that interests me). I think it would be quite funny if the PS3 has poor sales on launch day due to the price.

i have no interest in Xbox, but I wouldn't mind having a game cube or PS2. The prices though, when they came out, were too expensive for me. I'm not interested in forking out all this hard earned cash for the latest games and systems. I'm only considering now, buying a ps2 at $120 CN and a game cube at $80 CN I can afford that more than i can aford $600.

At the moment, neither do I, nor a lot of other people. But that's going to change in about 2 years. And that should be right around the time of the inevitable

Well, the more it costs to build, the less flexibility they have in price drops. Even if you sell at a loss, you have to make the loss up somewhere.

Say you're selling at a $100 per unit loss. If the typical customer buys five games, they have to get $20 per game in licence fees to break even. That will probably blow RRPs up.

That'd make me assume they're pretty set money wise.
And their douchey tactics may be underhanded. But aslong as they have the playstation name, they'll sell. That is, unless all their profit went to an underground sex ring of kittens.

That's really expensive. I have to convert this to Canadian dollars in my head and it's looking like 650 - 700 CND for the "basic system" (ie crippled system) and 750 - 800 CND for the "deluxe system" (ie usable system). I don't know a lot of people who would pay that much for a system, but it's Playstation. It's going to sell.

I'm not really that interested in PS3, only game I've seen that I like is DMC4, and add to that the price…

I don't want to sound like a fanboy or anything, but the Wii offers so much more that I'm interested in. I'm not going to rule out the PS3 yet, but...eh.

I've seen this mindset before. The Geforce 5800 video card. American small cars of the 1970s. EMD '50 series' locomotives. The 'Prescott' core Pentium 4. All panic responses to a suddenly superior competitor arising on the scene, all figuring "it's enough to match the competitor feature-for-feature without perfecting the gestalt.
