Lowly pimping of our own project…
This is a new Jump manga that started two weeks ago by the author of Black Cat Manga (Yabuki Kentaro) and sceanario writer of Black Cat Anime (Hasemi Saki). It's... I guess pretty different from Black Cat, though I didn't really read Black Cat before. Well, better read the actual thing than me explaining it, so go get it at KEFI and tell us what you think about!

I think I looked through it and thought for a moment its somewhat similar (at least in chap. 1) to Urusei Yatsura…boy meets alien girl and ends up "stuck" with her after something he says. (so sue me for the similarity...UY is one of the few Takahashi works I really care about outside earlier Ranma volumes) Dunno if and how it could hold up past the early chapters...I sort of feel extremely cautious towards new SJ series until they pass the early hurdles that may or may not eliminate them from the magazine.
is this the series in 21-22? If so it look like something i would hate….>>

And yeah, this one is the one started from 21-22. Yeah, other people have pointed out the similarities with some other series, too. ie. Reborn, DNAngel, etc. But then, if some romance comes in, how much more "new" type of romance would we have, you know?
At least I liked this one the best of three new series that started lately.
I read it in Jump before I left. It looked like a stupid and generic harem manga. and yes, it's DEFINITELY taking too many cues from Urusei Yatsura. The only thing I liked was the dress-robot thing.
In terms of the new SJ manga, I liked the Harry Potter ninja boy manga best. at least it was funny. GENOCIDE!!

I call the series Ninja Potter. Love the way the guy was holding the sword on the first chapter title page too -_-

Yeah, that manga was … too ... descriptive. Too much of the Potter boy's self thoughts. I should do this... but I shouldn't because my dad's a secret agent... but I should do it because of the moral... but then my dad's gonna kill me... ... x.x

It all depends on the romance manga. Ichigo 100% ran for a bit and I also heard "Kimagure Orange Road" was a SJ series too and that had a successful anime in the 80s. And don't forget about the "romance series that can evolve into something else". (like Yu Yu Hakushou)

Well it had romance if you consider the keiko and yusuke thing.

At the very start of the series, before the Spirit Detective/Fighting stuff, YYH starts pretty much as Togashi's silly version of "Ghost". A punk kid with a girl that may/may not care for him (and several others such as another rival punk kid) dies all of a sudden. And in order to get back to them, especially to the girl that may like him, he has to go through his ghostial ordeals. The main driving focus of the plot is the Yusuke/Keiko relationship, with Kuwabara, Botan and Koenma driving some of it as well. And while the series does evolve into a fighting shonen with supernatural intents, the Yusuke/Keiko relationship remains a central theme throughout the entire work.

Heard of it, from the setup and some sample pics it looks like a typical harem where bunch of busty girls hate clothes but love a useless wimp for no apparent reason. Just my speculation, could be and hope I am wrong :P
On the other hand, Urusei Yatsura, now that's a classic, but I'm not going into that.
And finally, I have to disagree YYH started as a romance series (it's made by Togashi Yoshihiro, the guy is anything but cliche), but again, not gonna hijack the thread to talk about that.

Seems there's some rumors of the anime adaptation set for Spring 2008. I'll keep you guys posted once AS confirms the rumors true or fake.

No, it's still running. What got canceled was this dead thread, I only revived it prior to the anime rumors.

Somehow I figured To-LOVE may get an anime that soon. Its not like every Jump shonen has to have a story or a purpose. (though somehow part of me wants Muhyo to get one first…or for Mx0 to get one at the same time)
Looks like the anime officially was announced for an adaptation just earlier this month and of course, some pics from Jump Fiesta of the anime preview.

For ever Gar/hot-blooded/octane action show like GL, there's four to five moe/harem/love-comedies.
And they're all the SAME. -_-

Well considering that this is my #5 series in Jump currently (OP and ES have higher priority and I'm making my way through Gintama and Reborn…and yes, I care more about To-LOVE than Naruto and Bleach), I do want to see this anime. Sure its a ripoff but at least its not ashamed about it and lets the girls look more like teenagers instead of being some super-moe style nonsense. (akin to Higurashi or Lucky Star)

This series is just one big ecchi moment after another. Sadly, I have a soft spot for such stuff. But it really is quite funny and I do want to see if they can keep the pace and atmosphere in the anime version as well.
Check-out-if-you-won't-believe-moment: Chapter 54, where Rito poses off as his father, gets alien-induced high and rips off the shirt from his sister's teacher and his sister's as well.

I saw it. It is funny. But it had fanservice. Not that I had a problem against fanservice and I love to usually watch some shows with some Fan service and Romance. But If you expect it to be the best thing since One Piece or have an extremely good story line then you shouldn't watch it.

Yes I agree, I just started to pick up the manga and see how well it goes, I dont think I could get anything epic storywise from this series but it does seem like a good guilty pleasure to enjoy from time to time.
I think Carter hit the nail on the head this time.
Also, in terms of "hot" fanservice, that "Kankon"? show was better. In terms of everything else, Kamen no Meido Gai was even better.
LTR is sort of the low end of the fanservice spectrum this season. Not that the other shows are any better! Except for KnMG, KoGARashi is the real selling point.

Ah, good old "To-LOVE-Ru", how I love you. Yes I will admit this is a guilty pleasure of mine, but lately I'm thinking of not calling it a guilty pleasure since I don't usually like anime/manga like this anyway.
Yes, it is another rip-off of "Urusei Yatsura", it is another cliche-ridden ecchi/harem series, but along with "Tenchi" this is probably the only one I've cared about. For one thing the visuals are nothing new, but I appreciate how unlike a lot of other series out there the characters actually look like teenagers. One of the things I make fun of with "Bleach" is that while the characters are supposed to be 15 they look more like 18 or 19. And I like all the silly non-detailed character designs like the old teacher and the stray dog. More importantly the characters are actually pretty appealing. Yuuki is another lame, weak underdog guy who's too shy around girls, but he still shows genuine moments of determination and good intention. Lala is another ditzy shameless girl with a big bust, but she's not stupid and also has good intention. It is all about the fanservice like many other series of it's kind, but it's not just about the pantyshots and awkward situations, the ecchi moments are mostly pretty funny despite a mostly lacking originality thanks to slapstick and how they manage to keep things lighthearted despite how far they can go with the suggestive (and obvious) themes. There's more I like about it but I don't want to get into it now, but for now I'll say the only thing holding this series back is that it's still another rip-off of "Urusei Yatsura" that depends on fanservice.
One thing I'm interested in is why the manga hasn't been picked up by VIZ Media yet. If you look at VIZ's track record they'll come out with a manga the year the anime version comes out in Japan, but we haven't anything about "To-LOVE-Ru". Is it just that the release schedule for VIZ is filled up at the moment? Is the content too risque even for Shonen Jump Advanced? Or maybe there are plans and we just haven't heard anything yet? Who knows.
