      @Devil:

Hey, just bought this game used. It's awesome! I don't have instructions though, so two quick questions.

      How do you:

      1. Taunt?
      2. Do the "Accel-Heat" thing?
      1. D-pad lets you taunt. Some characters change their look a bit. Luffy wears his straw hat on his head, and Usopp puts his goggles over his eyes.
      2. I think you hold the special button and press triangle on the PS2 or Y[?] on the GameCube. Tap twice for three times for more powerful Accel-Heat.

Whoa someone was also playing this? I found the game yesterday and replayed it.

Hey, sorry to keep digging up an old topic, but there's not much info out there about this game.

So what does Accel-Heat actually do, besides using up skill bars and making you go faster? What determines how long it lasts?

Even more importantly, what is the trick to gaining experience after you beat the other four captain stories? Re-doing battles gets you hardly anything. I am grossly underpowered for Usopp's adventure.

Awesome!! Other people who play this game -

Grand Adventure is brilliant, and though the voices can be god-awful, the gameplay is fun, frantic and it's actually really stacked against you as you go further into the game.

Doing the taunt for Crocodile exposes his poison hook, which after several attacks will become the knife. Enel actually regains some special bar by eating his apple, and Wapol you get to see the last thing he's eaten. I think there is a way to regurgitate or do something special via eating specific items - I know that Wapol's sky-shot canon attack (which I think is his A, X attack on the gamecube version) does change to be a laser-coloured blast if you eat a Flame Dial blade.

Accel Heat on level 1 (by pressing the shoulder button you normally press for super attacks….on the gamecube it's the L trigger and then pressing jump) cancels movement and attacks, allowing you to move almost instantly after it.
Uses for this would be when your getting combo'd and want to break out - like the Megacrash from Tatsunoko vs Capcom. - Can also be used for some super attacks to link together... something like Zoro's Crab Grab/Dragon twister super - Accel heat level 1 about halfway through Bull charge, then either do it again, or do the 36 Pound Cannon super -

Accel Heat on Level 2 uses 2 bars of special (done by holding the L trigger and pressing jump twice instead of once) - does the same as lvl 1 but pushes the enemy back a bit, and you get the same effect as the running shoes item (ie holding block and moving forwards towards the enemy will crash into them and give you an opening to attack). You look a bit 'steamy' too

Accel Heat on Level 3 uses 3 bars of special (done by holding the L trigger and pressing jump three times instead of once) - does the same as lvl 1 and lvl 2, but it pushes the enemy far into the air, the music changes, and you all your attacks become unblockable - you also look like the character is using Gear 2nd mode...

So I've tried to be totally brutal in this game, using Zoro, doing his A, X attack ("here I go"), to give him the attack upgrade blue stuff - then getting 3 levels of special, and then picking up the sword upgrade and quickly doing Accel Heat lvl 3 - the damage output isn't scaled, so he's rather unstoppable for about 10 seconds.

All the Accel Heats seem to last the same duration of time I believe - haven't tested it.

Edit: The only thing you can do is maybe choose Chopper, and use his Jump heavy attack to do the Crunch Time attack, over and over again - Mihawk is a bitch, but the battle does take place in the Tempest stage from memory - I beat it using a combination of the Chopper trick, and using a home run bat to just stand on the raised section, and bat mihawk into the sea over and over again - since his damn Greatest Impact support is rather annoying.

After this, there's either a Rumble Battle or a break the boxes stage which you can redo over and over to net a fair amount of exp - But getting past the Mihawk stage gave me grief too.

You're awesome, Fenberry, thanks for your help! The only thing keeping me from really enjoying this game is that I don't fully understand the mechanics. I probably never would've known about the Accel-Heat thing if one of the bonus conditions wasn't "Don't use Accel-Heat".

BTW, I watch a ton of your videos on youtube (although my username is SverigeHobbes there - I've never stayed consistent). I especially like the Unlimited Cruise ones because I never got to play the game.

My esteemed pleasure, my friend. Always happy to help. I love all the Grand Battle style games, and have taken great lengths to get down to all the extra little things about the characters, specials and gameplay.

In all the Grand Battle games, characters don't have super armour when they do a super attack, whereas in Unlimited Cruise they get super armour (ie don't flinch when attacked during their super attack).

You can hold block and dash towards your enemy to close the gap, and followup with a grab if they block - In grand battle 3 and Rush, you can dash into a box and if this flying box hits the enemy, they will be dazed for a couple of seconds

In Grand Adventure, you can swing the box by pressing the heavy attack button (X on the gamecube controller) to swing it - same deal, dazes the enemy.

If you block right at the moment an attack will hit you (including a super attack…but obviously not an attack which in unblockable), you'll do a 'bingo block', you'll flash for a brief half a second and get some special meter filled... the only way to bust out flashy moves when you turn item boxes off.

The crystal item from Grand Battle Rush could be used to summon supports which were unblockable, but this item and this effect were removed from Grand Adventure.

You can have Tashigi with Tashigi support, and Zeff with Zeff support - highly confusing.

Jumping on an enemies head spits out coins from them for you to collect - Nami's first Super Attack does this much better.

Other general mechanics are the rock scissor paper system of the secret attacks - It goes clockwise, can't remember where they are on screen from memory - if your at critical health, and you enemy has a fair amount of health more than you (and if you win the rock-paper-scissors), you'll do about 50-80% of their full health bar in damage - pretty awesome.

Zeff's secret attack is just silly.

Several characters attacks can be held for more power - Luffy's Gomu Gomu no Axe can be held indefinitely until he uses it or gets hit by something.

Patty fries up some awesome grill

In Story mode, use each support in a battle 3 times to unlock them for vs mode (doesn't need to be called during the match, just selected and you beat the enemy) - this applies even for battles you have already played, so just go back to the first island you started on and beat it 3 times with your chosen support.

You'll unlock all support characters, accessories and stages if you complete all the extra conditions of the match.

Each strawhat has 3 Super Attacks, instead of 2 from Rush

There are three stages (at least) which can never be unlocked. The Alabasta sand one you play in rumble battles in story mode, The Going Merry, which you sometimes fight the Strawhats on during Usopp's Pirate Panic, and the Flying Mode Going Merry (inlcuding wings), which you fight during 1 battle only I remember against Ohm in Skypiea in Luffy's story mode I think... Really want to play it vs mode, not able to unlock it though.

Accel Heat is pretty nifty, and can get a bit crazy in heated matches, especially against 'Smoke-strike' spamming Smoker CPU's... Use it well. I don't think too many super attacks can be chained this way, but experiment.

Usopp's Impact I think changed between Rush and Grand Adventure, you used to be able to pull it out by pressing L+ ligh attack, jump - absorb a few attacks, then bust it out at point blank range - Grand Adventure changed it to get pulled out - absorb things for about a second and half, then blasts it out - haven't been able to use it like I used to.

                ================================

Edit: thanks for liking my videos - now I am able to upload from work, should see regular updates... Unlimited Cruise is so much fun...can't wait for SP. Cheers for the support~!

                  Another question for you guys:

How do you beat the spotbilled duck race towards the end of Usopp's Adventure? The bonus is to beat it in under a minute, which I can't even get close to. On top of that, the CPU gets to ride a waver. Is there some kind of trick to this?

Depends on the character really. Who are you using? Heavy characters make Caroo go really slow. Someone light like Chopper or Kuina is recommended. And ram the computor every chance you get.

Oh wow, I had no idea weight mattered. I was using characters like Croc and Mihawk. Just tried it with Usopp and beat it first try.

Now all I have to do is beat Chopper in under 20 seconds. I've heard Nami's tornado special is really good, but I don't have her on my crew…

UPDATE: Did it with Mihawk's super.

So since even at lvl 100 you're going to be short 15 points from max stats (you can only get 5 points from items), what stats do you guys recommend skimping on? Or is it character specific (e.g. how good their super attacks are)?

I feel like either Support or Super is least important. Personally I tend to skimp on the super stat, since my supers usually either miss or get interrupted. Some of the support characters can be very helpful, like Dr. Kureha, Mr. 1, Onion, etc.
