At first I thought the topic title was a typo for Nintendo Wifi…go figure. I do agree with you about the reason for the change. I can't wait to hear all the bad puns that come out of this, and maybe make some lame ones of my own. The title might have a bit of an effect of sales, but nothing serious. I got a hardy chuckle out of it though.
It shouldn't affect the sales unless people are completely numb. Good games and capability = I buy it. Doesn't matter if you call it Nintendo Poop-On-A-Stick. But their reasoning behind the change is just so….vomit-inducing.

It shouldn't and it probably won't. Nintendo is an established name in the gaming industry so the point is moot in this case. Your point about it being named just about anything rings true. Though I can't help thinking how something as superficial as a name change will affect some of the people on a gamefaqs message board.
To be honest, it does make a little more sense than Revolution. Sales most likely won't be affected, but still, it's a little like they're fishing for insults. Withint the next 23 hours I'll run into some Sony or Microsoft speech trying to use the lame pun against them, making pretty much everyone look goofy.

I prefer Revolution to Wii (makes me think of JoJo). N5 was also a good name.

Why couldn't Nintendo keep its codename? I mean, Revolution sounds fresh and new… and Wii sounds like a simple acknowledgement in Chinese.

When I first told a friend he thought I was taking the….Wii:laugh:. I don't give a shit about the name because it isn't going to make me want the console anyless. They could have called it the foock and I still would go out and buy it the day it's released.

All things considered, I think Wii is still a far better marketing gimmick compared to those damned "It's carpet you can play outside!' PSP ads. We stand around, we say it's silly, but it does not make us want to convert the internal organs of Sony's ad staff to externals.

Not the greatest name in history, but there are endless possiblities for clever slogans. "Wii can change everything" "Wii are the new form of gaming" "Wii are the revolution." I'd say a nice move on Nintendo's part.

I'm hearing that this "Wii" deal may actually be fake. I was informed that the official Nintendo apparently has not listed the "Wii" as the true name, and that the site still goes by "Revolution," and not "Wii."
