…so I guess this makes me a "super-ultra-mega otaku" or somesuch crap? Reminds me of when someone sent in a letter comlaining about the dub, and were answered with a letter DEFENDING it and which contained something like "Little Suichi would be fine with Luffy stabbing himself in the face, but Timmy wouldn't." Funny, I could have sworn that wasn't in the anime...

Found the old thing I was talking about and scanned it. Yeah, he's a total EXPERT on One Piece. Oda wrote it for the money, yeah freaking right.

What I skimmed through the other "101 things" and saw didn't exactly seem to be amazing facts, Doraemon is popular and Sazae-san has more episodes than The Simpsons, ZOMG!

I remember when this was first posted. It just made me realize that the guy writing this never really watched either the original version OR the dubbed version save for maybe a quick glace.

Well, I believe that record was actually for number of copies of the book that were printed in the first printing rather than how many were sold. It was set when One Piece volume 24's initial print was set for 2.52 million copies for the first printing which beat out the record of 2.5 million copies previously held by Slam Dunk vol. 21-23. I was also under the impression that One Piece vol. 25 broke vol. 24's record with 2.54 million copies and then vol. 26 beat that one with 2.56 million copies. However, I also seem to recall that one of the recent Harry Potter books had beat out One Piece's record and now held it though One Piece still held the record for manga just not books in general anymore.

If ONLY. If that were so, it'd be so much more popular, and maybe Anime Insider would actually look into what they're doing rather than making mistakes. I haven't bothered to read the whole thing, but the only other mention of OP I saw was something about how there would be Hulk hands-like Luffy merchandise (stretchy? O_o) coming out soon.

And I was never aware One Piece broke book related records, just manga ones in Japan. Cool.

I might actually end up writing a letter, this made me just a touch mad. How hard is it to type "one piece volume 24" into google or something to get information on it?

It wasn't in the anime version, only the manga. Just another example of their stupidity. It's the very first panel of the first chapter.

I wouldn't hold Anime Insider credible for anything really… I recently read that they are still going on about the live action dragon ball movie that fox is(isn't) making. Another funny story, the same day I read a 3 week old announcement at the ANN that Bleach was coming to the states, I read in anime insider an article about "The Biggest Shows We want in America" The number 1 show was Bleach, and they had a tidbit "when we think it'll air in US" "Our guess is in 3 years, because none of the american publishers recognise its promise"

Don't really trust of anything Wizard says…outside Toyfair (and even that I browse through to see the latest anime toys), a lot of it is hype. But at least its still better than Becketts...(which loves joining in on the latest anime crazes...see their moves from Pokemon to Yugioh to Inu Yasha/Full Metal Alchemist to, of course, "that ninja show")

I remember the "Luffy's favoirte spot" thing, it's just that they made it seem more like it was Luffy's ABSOLUTE favorite position to sit. Which was kinda weird.

Oops…well I wasn't directing it for him. I was making the comment that they make a bigger deal out of the hyped up series while something like OP is merely "there", both prior to and of course after the dub. While we have a loyal, devoted OP following on this board, some of these really hyped series Becketts obsesses with are like that long before even being licensed.

What's even more sad than AI making these screw-ups is Viz themselves making them. For example, Viz saying Luffy is the most wanted man in the world after he defeats Arlong is completely and totally wrong.

And on the subject of AI, I don't even think they bother to check out the dubbed anime and go on with their assumption that all the same things occured in anime as they did in the manga exactly.
