This thought occured to me recently. I think mermen might eat fish.
Merman are like fish and like humans, but they are not either. It's like humans eating monkeys or something, maybe close to cannibalism but not quite. However, I suppose we may not know enough about mermen in OP to be sure.
So, would a merman consider a fish close enough to himself to eat one? Then again, what do people who I assume live close to the sea eat? Also, there's Chopper's eating of meat, but that might be filler.
Well, when Nami returns to Arlong Park, they announce a celebration and someone yells "Tuna tonight!" Seems proof they'd eat fish.
Not to mention that Hatchi goes on to SELL takoyaki (octopus snacks)
Of course they eat fish. Their real-life counterparts certainly do.
Well i think they do, humans eat other mammals so merman shouldn't have problem's eating inferior fish species.
And by the way, fishmen are mammals, Oda said it xD Although the Hachi's takoyaki thing really disturbed me…
Another clarification: They are fishmen and not mermen, there's a difference.

And yes, they are mammals. Although it's also true that fish eat other fish in nature, just not generally their own species. And that's why it still seems odd that Hatchi would eat octopus. :blink:
