Dose anyone watch dragonball, dragonball z,or dragonball GT… my favorite was dragonball z seasons...I didn't really like the GT beacuse it was to short
what do you guys think about dragonball?
DRagon ball seasons

Dragonball > Dragonball Z > Dog Shit > Dragonball GT
-
"Dragon Ball" was a great series. Then came "Z" and everything went to hell. "GT" entered the picture and everyone got pissed (I'm not a fan, but I haven't watched enough to judge).
-
ahh dragonball the series that started them all. I like dragonball and dragonballz the same (because theyre one series! Da Dum che!). I liked the fighting in dbz better but i loved the adventure feel in db. So i liked both. Gt was ok…no where as good. I really liked uub in that series but everything else... My favorite arc in dbz has got to be cell. Thats what made me love the series. I really liked freeza. The 3 main sagas in the dbz series were awesome, but buu wasnt as good as a storyline if you think about it.
-
The final Dragon Ball arc was a lot of fun and that's all it should have been. It's easy to see that Toriyama made up a good portion of the story from week to week and in no way should the series be hailed as some masterpiece with complex motives and a deep story.
Because it's a story of badass people getting more powerful and beating the shit out of each other in as cool a way possible. Every kid's dream.
The more complex he tried to make the plot the less interesting it got and the Buu saga is essentially a huge parody of that.
Dragon Ball is a masterpiece.
And those aren't my words, they're Oda's.
-
The DragonBall & DragonBall Z were great for two reasons
1. the voice acting
2. the fillerI actually liked how some things were drawn out in the anime where some things were shortened in the manga,
-
Whooo i loved dragonball/z but didn't really care for gt (even tho it looked cool and all) but i guess the main reason why i didnt like it was because the whole thing wasn't done by Akira Toriyama (except the op and character designs blah blah) and the dub pretty much screwed it up (why did they begin from where they enter gill's homeplanet?)
-
DB is excellent. DBZ is the same level up to Cell. Even though Cell was pushed it was still good(RRA) and a dead Goku.
Then Buu came. The best thing about that was the cameos over the years. Thats it. I never liked Buu as much…okay Mr. Satan and Bee ruled. I loved it.
GT...well it looked back on Oolongs wish for panties. Thats kinda good right? Aw who am I kidding it sucked.
-
Dragonball Z was one of my first anime addictions. That, Pokemon, and Sailor Moon were what got me into anime in the first place. The old Ocean Group dub was edited to death, but I still liked it. Back then, I was the type of guy who liked animes for the fights only. Then, I remember Funimation re-dubbing Dragonball. That really didn't interest me, since I only cared about the fights, and not realizing how funny it was. And I couldn't get in to GT. I thought I'd like it, but after seeing the first few episodes, I thought, "This sucks" and didn't really bother with it.
-
I love DB. DBZ is iffy IMO. On the one hand I do enjoy it, but on the other I prefer Gohan and Piccolo to Goku and Vegeta and generally felt their roles in the series was lacking. As a result I've began to go off the series. As for GT I actually liked it at first then quickly went off it. I felt it was a dissapointment as when it wasn't ripping off old DB ideas it seemed to show potentially decent plotlines, e.g. the Shadow Dragons.
-
IMHO, going by DB, I'd say Toriyama was pretty weak. It seemed to me that action manga weren't really up there until the early 90s, and even though DB was on top, it wasn't much of a leader. I loved the DB anime, though.
But because I don't hold the Toriyama's DB stuff too high, I gotta say, I don't hold GT all that low. I think most people just wanna hate it.
-
I gave it a chance. I liked the 9 or so episodes in 17 arc. Thats it. (Cooler!)not the adj. but the character)
-
and even though DB was on top, it wasn't much of a leader.
Today's great mangaka would beg to differ.
-
Probably every manga-ka alive respects him, and at least half draw inspiration from his work. Good for them. I personally think a lot of today's authors and artists surpass him, some by a country mile. Not even ragging on the guy, cause I have all of DB, just saying.
-
They do surpass him. No question there even though I'm sure they'd deny it. But if it wasn't for a seminal masterpiece like DB, the inspiration many of them have and the kinds of works they create may never have been given birth to.
You could also say many of their work is far superior to something like Astro Boy, which it is…and by far. But that doesn't mean that for its time, it wasn't an amazing feat that rocked the industry.
-
im sure it is like parent and his children. Toriyama would want to see the manga business get better and for them to us db as a stepping stone rather than as the goal.
-
Personally I wouldn't say that Akira was a bad manga-ka. While I do feel that later parts of DBZ are weaker than some of the earlier parts, I do still find it enjoyable. I also love the original DB and really enjoying Dr. Slump. I've also found some of his later work like Neko Majin and Kajika. If anything, in my opinion the later parts of DBZ were a slump compaired to what he's done before and after.
-
DB just rocked and was very funny.
DBZ…well, I don't like the anime as much as the manga. It had just too many fillers, I think at one point the turned one page of the manga into a whole damn episode... -
what's wrong with dbz is when you try to watch several episodes in a row. you become pissed off because things are just going on too smoothly. i watched the entire vegeta arc in a row, when goku have to come back from heaven via the dragon road and when it was over i couldn't bare things that weren't going on immediately, i had this impression of urge in every movment i did.
gohan vs cell is the precursor of so much scenes used and re-used in every shonen manga.
EDIT:
Dose anyone watch dragonball, dragonball z,or dragonball GT…
do you come from moon?
-
Dragonball=awesome
Dragonball Z=really great until Buu saga
GT=bad, bad badThe DragonBall & DragonBall Z were great for two reasons
1. the voice acting
2. the fillerYou LIKE the filler in DBZ? Wow, you're bold.
-
Some of the filler was OK. I liked Pikkon (or whatever you call him) and some of the scenes involving him. I felt he was potentially a good rival/friendly rival for Goku. Shame he wasn't fully developed and/or didn't feature in the manga. And as for the driving epsiode, that is probably one of my all time favourites despite it being filler. Granted though the rest aren't great.
-
The DB manga felt a linear and kinda cold to me, so I liked pretty much all of the DB filler. DBZ had some decent filler episodes, but the extra long power ups, Garlic, constant switching to Goku's dumb wife during Namek, etc. just kinda killed it.
-
Some of the DBZ movies were pretty good, too. The first one I saw was the 2nd one, I think it was "The World's Strongest". I still have a VHS copy of Dead Zone. But, my favorite one was Movie 12.
-
I ended up seeing DBZ first and, for the first of the three I've seen, it wasn't like anything I had seen on TV at that time. (and this was during the crappy dub Saban threw during the Vegeta saga!) While there wasn't much plot, the action was at its peak at this point. The Frieza saga dragged out at times but had its moments (like some of the key Goku/Frieza fights). Cell…well I guess I was getting desensitized on the action by this point...sure there were some classic fights (Gohan/Cell, Vegeta/18, Piccolo/17), but I guess the dub really didn't do it as well as it could have. And Buu...well, believe it or not, I think what we have here is Toriyama having several great concepts (an immature/child-like psychopath who's extremely powerful, Mr. Satan as an influence, Gotenks), it, moreso than the Cell arc, was Toriyama trying to top himself due to the pressure from Toei and Shueisha. (though I admit the best fights are the Super Buu battles with Gotenks and Gohan)
I started watching DB while watching DBZ...and when I did, I was completely blown away by it. While the fights were OK, they were varied and all sorts of styles compared to the lasers and fisticuffs of DBZ, while adventure and character development took precidence over the fighting. Admittably, I think the Red Ribbon Army arc was probably my favorite part...sure the Piccolo arc was cool, but having seen DBZ first, it didn't seem as revolutionary as it did to those who followed the true order.
And the less said about DBGT the better. Outside one or two really silly things, that was horrid from the word "go". (though I admit the "finale" they gave to the whole DB franchise was probably a bit nicer than Toriyama's inconclusive ending)
-
DBZ had some decent filler episodes
I'll second that. IMHO the 'training episodes' which took place before the Saiyans arrived were probably the best filler ever made and some of the most interesting episodes in Japanese animation.
-
what about the one's where people learn how to drive? (sorry i had to play devil's advocate)
DBZ is eched into my childhood. I cant help but like it despite all of its faults
-
The DB manga felt a linear and kinda cold to me, so I liked pretty much all of the DB filler.
Agreed. It has a lot more character stuff than the manga, which I liked.
-
well watched fusion reborn today. It was ok..it was lame tho. When did it take place? Goku said he was tougher then boo b/c he used ssj3, but him and vegeta were dead. Oh and gohan destorying freeza with one punch was the lamest thing ever.
-
gohan was a million times stronger at that point, so it made since that if trunks when he first got to earth could slice him up that a much stronger gohan could do that. I mean that had been through part of buu at that point (wasnt there a time in the buu saga that both vegeta and goku were dead? when vegeta self destructed? maybe it took place then) I thought fusion reborn was one of the better movies along with Bojack (my fav) and Broli (part 1 mostly. Some of part 2 was entertaining. Part three shudder)
-
Most people don't view the movies as being able to fit into the canon plotline. I've heard people suggest that the movies could take place in an alternative dimention. For example movie 12's could be "what if Gohan easily beat Buu so Goku and Vegeta didn't need to be brought back". That theory makes the most sense to me.
Movie 12 is one of my favoruites and I enjoyed movie 9 (Bojack). Best of all the FUNi DVDs are multi region so I can play them on a regular Region 2 DVD player.
-
I like the movies a lot, mostly for the fights. My favorites are probably the Bojack one (because Tenshinhan got a battle) and the one with the Androids. I liked that little purple Android…I thought he was too cool.
-
My favorite was The World's Strongest, mainly because Roshi opened a can of whoopass.
-
Favorite movies were 6,7,10, & 12
-
I like the movies a lot, mostly for the fights.
Agreed. They rarely have the training, talking and powering up that sometimes takes up to much time in most of the sagas and instead go straight to the fighting.
-
Aaah…good ol' DBZ...the show that started it all for me, my overactive imagination, the begining of my dream, leading me to anime, my alias on the internet. DBZ even tho I don't watch it anymore is basicly the core of my heart.
-
@Tokoro:
while adventure and character development took precidence over the fighting.
This is WHY DB is my favorite too much fighting and too much dragging on made DBZ a little boring for me. Though, it was fun to see the charicters grow and change thoughout the series. And I know, GT was not made by Akira, but I liked it too. It was interesting, and fun to go back to all these moments that all these dragons represented.
-
Eh, my problem with the movies is a lot of time the fighting is just a clone of major DBZ battles. Lord Slug was pretty much a repeat of Piccolo Daimao, Bojack of Cell, and so on.
-
Most people don't view the movies as being able to fit into the canon plotline. I've heard people suggest that the movies could take place in an alternative dimention.
That would be easier to accept if not for things like Icarus and Garlic, Jr., which clearly establish that the movies and the anime share the same continuity.
The filler wavered back and forth in quality; some of it was quite good, while other sections didn't make a damn bit of sense. The more egregious error was Pikkon handing Perfect Cell's ass to him effortlessly, but having a great deal of trouble with Goku later on during the tournament.
I don't know why they just didn't use Cell in the tournament; I know that they wanted another Piccolo, but why not have him beat Cell in an actual match by some technique or just plain luck instead of having him squash Cell like a bug?
-
Icarus and Garlic Jr. only feature in filler episodes, so if you only go by the manga the "alternative reality" rule still works.
-
Have you ever noticed that it was never vagetta that saved the day? and in gt they made him become ssj4 so gay like why would they use a laser to make him stronger couldnt they have done it like goku get him pissed off and unleash his ultimate power.. and gohan had one good victory aganist cell then he became weak and couldnt kill anyone that was gay to
-
DB I'll always hold in high regard mainly for it very nice blend of comedy and action not to mention a clever take on the Journey to the West story. Goku was such a loveable hero and the manga was always interesting.
DBZ…eh well I'll admit it got me (and am pretty most of America) more interested in anime and I did love the Sayiain, Garlic Jr., Android, and Cell sagas. But the only things I hated was that hardly any of the supporting cast could get their own victory and were pushed into the background as the series went on. It always had to be Goku, Vegeta, and sometimes Gohan to blow the baddies away (which is partly the reason why I liked Garlic Jr. saga, it focused more on the underdogs) not to mention the looong pacing of some of the stories (Namak Saga in paticular) and a rather abrupt ending. Still for what it was, it was a pretty cool show I guess.
And let me be the black sheep here, I actully liked GT mainly cause at least it tried to bring some closure to the series and I dug the journey through space aspect though I'll admit it could've been better. Plus the Super Android 16 Saga was pretty cool. And the final battle, while not uber epic, and the ending were satisfying.
Overall the series has its up and down t hey buall long winded series do and I salute Toriyama for managing to make it that far in DB and DBZ and managing to give us an anime icon that'll no doubt keep going through the ages.
-
The Cell Games and Saiyan saga focused on background characters too.
Most notably Kurrin.
DB filler with Goku training around the world ruled! More Ten Shinhan!
Saiyan filler kicked ass with the training and more of Gokus adventures on Snake Way.
Trunks filler had Goku and Piccolo driving. Kick. Ass.
The movies…2, 5,6, and 8(BOjacks?) were good. Brolly was a good concept but it sorta lagged. -
i still love this series… Dragon Ball is just so funny, I want to own the whole series one day... I'm slowly collecting the first season of DBZ that was recently released. Funimation did a good job redubbing over what Pioneer did. only thing i miss about the old dub (aside from good 'ol memories) is the voice actors. I mean, Scott Mcneal as Piccolo is just... awesome. i don't like Piccolo's new voice at all, he tries too hard. though, the acting in the first two seasons was pretty terrible, so i guess i'm happy that funi is redubbing them. plus... they included the Spanish dub, which is awesome in my opinion. and i don't even need subtitles.
My favorite arcs are the Android and Cell saga, mainly because there was just so many kickass moments, and good character and plot development. it was like, after Freeza, everything changed... i really don't like the Buu saga at all. Saiyaman was funny in the Japanese, but he's pretty stupid... Mr. Satan was funny as hell in the dub!
i love how in the japanese when Mr. Satan is around, people start chanting "Satan! Satan!" they sound like a bunch of satanists... scary X3
oh, is the dubbed movie 12 out now?! i've been wanting to see how they did with that, i have the fansub of that movie... i love that one. its so stupid, yet so awesome.
Dead Zone is still one of my faves for some reason... I loved World's Strongest, i noticed that in the pioneer dub they left in some of the cursing. The 3 Super Saiyajins (7) was pretty awesome, especially the very end, lol! I've seen all the movies, the only ones i didn't care for were the Lord Slug movie and the first Cooler movie. I can't wait till they dub the Tapion movie, it was so well animated and I have the raw of that one... i did see it in spanish, it was pretty good.
I think my first ever japanese fansub was the Bio Brolly movie (11) and the Trunks TV special. i used to love movie 11, Chibi Trunks mooning and flipping Brolly the bird was just too hilarious! i really loved the ending song too...
i used to have a crapload of DBZ mp3s... i remember wanting that DBZ Neverending Story cd... i may get it one day, but i've heard it before, it was pretty cool.
so yeah... i could go on, but i won't. i used to be a hardcore DBZ fan back in highschool....
