Tom said to Franky during the flashback that even if a ship you built could destroy the world, you must give it love. How long do Mermen live? Could Tom have built Pluton in the first place? or more likely, could he have built another one from the blueprints and it's still lying around somewhere?

I wonder if it is really possible to use one o' those ships to "destroy the world," as Franky and Tom have said. Perhaps they just meant you could destroy every island and every settlement on the Red Line, thus rendering the Earth uninhabited.

Maybe so, but like Franky said, such weapons are necessary to counteract the global reach of the World Government.
Crocodile said that Pluton had enough power to destroy an entire island in the blink of an eye so it's quite clear that ship could destroy the world, not blowing up the entire planet like in DBZ but killing every living things and turning the world into a giant crater.
lol, i think it's pretty much a given that a person's achievements get destroyed along with the person. 
since the Pluton prints are destroyed, i'm not too worried about this subject. however, at the same time, i can't help but feel that Pluton is gonna be brought up again later in the series one way or another….
There should be a planet-blowing ship somewhere. What does Pulton looks like? With the blueprint gone I hope we can see it someday.

Nico Robin has A LOT of explaining to do when the Mugiwara get out of Enies Lobby, concerning the original ancient weapon. In addition, she has a lot of apologizing to do to Sanji, Usopp, and the crew in general.
Personally, I think Luffy needs to explain himself about why he wants One Piece. I am certain Nico Robin knows a lot more than she lets on about Luffy's "D" heritage.
I would imagine Fishmen to outlive humans by quite a while, but I doubt Tom is eight hundred years old. See the various "Grand Line Theory" topics for more information (as I have a class), but the consensus on the Ancient Weapons is that they have destroyed the world at one point, and "Grand Line", with its various scattered magnetic fields, is the byproduct of the cataclysm.

I doubt it; he doesn't seem like the type to lie to his apprentices about this sort of thing. If there is one more than one Pluton in existence, then the second one was most likely built by Franky.

Nobody said they were talking. Besides, the WG would probably silence anyone who talked and anyway, there aren't that many fish-men total, from what we've seen, and the implication is that most of them keep to their island.
That said, I don't think Tom is 800 years old. I do think Fish Man Island might just be the home to an especially revealing poneglyph.
Keep in mind that "Poseidon" is still out there somewhere.
Many seem to think that One Piece is the last poneglyph, but perhaps it's one of the ancient weapons or a set of blueprints.

Umm, when was it stated the fishmen have a longer life-span than humans? And is it ok to call them tritons like the Spanish dub does?
As to world destruction… I find that rather difficult to picture, would the planet break and the pieces scatter in space? (Hmm, this just inspired a new theory for One Piece, the One Piece is what holds the planet togetther!)
Another random question: Did anyone notice Kumadori using his hair back in ch 379? I didn't see anyone saying "Ha, I figured he could do that since ch 379!" when we first saw it, so I was wondering if anyone called it right.
Here is a thought, One Piece IS the original Pluton… Or the weapon Robin can reveal.
And in the end, Luffy will destroy One Piece.
