What the hell for? It's news like this we need more of.
Pinky and the Brain is also coming out on dvd.
Nice! We might be one step closer to Freakazoid DVDs.
Hahahaha, that's the thought that crossed everybody's minds. "Next stop, Freakazoid!"
this is great news, Animaniacs is awesome, no doubt about it, but Freakazoid…my love and joy...oh Freakazoid....
Pinky and the Brain is also coming out on dvd.
NOW you're talking, I got kinda sick of animaniacs, but I loved Pinky and the Brain. Thanks for the news!
All right! I was wondering when Amazon was going to get around to putting this up (since P&tB had been up for a while) and I know I'm getting the first volume of this series. I always loved this series…sure it had its cheesy moments, but it was fewer and further between than Tiny Toons. I just hope that we actually get all the P&tB eps in the original episodes instead of getting them chopped out like in that cruddy Nickelodeon run...
(mink swims by) What? What are you looking at me for?
Very, very cool. Here's hoping they edit out the singing cat and dog segments.
Although this is great news, I can't help but feel that empty pit in my stomach.
Freakzoid….WHERE ARE YOU!!!!!!!!!! WE NEED YOOOOOU

Hey, I like Runt! Sure Rita could be a bit much (even with Bernadette Peters) and many get too cheesy, but Runt is a great animated interpretation of Dustin Hoffman's "Rain Man". (personally though I rather they eliminate most the Mindy and Button cartoons except a select few, but that's personal preference)
As for Freakazoid…sure I would love a complete series, but most of the season 2 eps weren't too memorable to me. (outside the one with Gutierrez and Hero Boy)
Freakazoid is quality over quantity. Any cartoon that can instantly cut to stock footage of windmills in Holland for NO REASON WHATSOEVER wins the 'Greatest Thing Ever' award.
Alot of people are hopping for Freakazoid, I remember watching that show and I liked it….been awhile. But alas, even if it comes out on DVD not like I can afford it.

I'll be honest, I missed Freakzoid, but this makes me want to see it.

Hey, I loved Freakazoid, but most of my enthusiasm would be over the first season when the show was fresh and brillaint. I guess my problem is that while the first season is brilliant, the second season obviously changed the format a bit too much…not to mention WB's meddling to prevent it from succeeding.
i loved freakazoid!
but i can't wait fer animaniacs, especially fer the 3 pigeons, and that squirrel with the purse…....SLAPPY! that's'er name! ^^;
Freakazoid Freakazoid Chimpanzee!
…Pinky and the Brain...Animaniacs...YESSSS!!!!!!! I havent felt this great since Batman the Animated Series came to dvd awhile ago! If they do Freakazoid...I will be in DVD Heaven.
If I can get my hands on Anamaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Freakazoid, and Dexter's Lab (older seasons), then I will be one content.. person.

Hahaha, yes. I always hated watching those bits when I was a kid..
Bump #1 in Project "Bring all the old shit I like back."
I don't even remember those segments, but however they bring it….
We want Rocko's Modern Life on DVD now!
Funny how I thought "Freakazoid next please!" when I read the thread title.
But anyways, I definatly won't mind putting Animaniacs on my shelf. Anyone know if they made Tiny Toon dvds already?
@Anime:
Freakazoid Freakazoid Chimpanzee!

Why DID Freakazoid end so suddenly? Was it because of WB's meddling or were ratings that bad? If I recall it seemed pretty damn popular for a prime time cartoon.
oh hell yes! I was talking about this w/ my sis a few days ago! God I missed this series so much! I never really got tired of it, it just… stopped airing and i was upset. YAY!! :steve:
hopin' for Freakazoid on DVD as well, that show was just freakin' hilarious.... reminds me, if anyone was at A-kon 2005, did you see that guy dressed up as Freakazoid? it was rather scary, especially when he was playing DDR O.o;

From what I've read around, what killed "Freakazoid" was mostly bone-headed decisions in scheduling. Most infamously was their "Big Kids Go First Policy" which put it on at 8 in the morning…and of course as you know, big kids mostly sleep in until later in the morning so it probably was most likely to kill the show. Then there was them putting new episodes on Friday mornings just as kids were going to school...
Then again, with the cutting of the frantic pace of season one and the over-concentration on one main Freakazoid story, there wasn't that much to crow about that season anyway.
We want Rocko's Modern Life on DVD now!
OH MY GOD. RIGHT NOW. PLEASE. I'm totally into watching old cartoons I loved as a kid again, and it shocks me how many are funnier now than when I was a kid. I can't wait to buy Animaniacs! I'll watch it right after DuckTales and Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers! (Yeah, that's right, you got a problem with that?! I'm still waiting for Bonkers and Marsupilami, goddammit!)
Also, Freakazoid FTW. I can hardly even remember it because I was too young, but I remember it being BADASS. Also, I saw a rerun of an episode recently, and it was one of the funniest things ever.
Yeah, finally! I LOVED Animaniacs! The International Friendship song bit always cracked me up. "Otto's gut, Otto's butt! Oh du schone, Oh du schone, Oh du schone, Schnitzelbank!"
One of my favorite Animaniacs eps was the one where Doctor Scratchinsniff hired a Yiddish clown for Wakko's birthday. The clown's song was the best thing ever.
"When the whippoorwill whippers in the wind, the wind can't whipper back. O nice and chubby baby!"
Aside from Animaniacs, none of the WB cartoons seem to have lasted more than two seasons, which strikes me as odd considering they were all terrific, Road Rovers being the only exception.
Tiny Toons on dvd would absolutely RULE.
@Pass:

Holy crap, I can't even believe I forgot about that song! That is sooo going on my mp3 player once I find my Animanics CDs. That brings back great memories.
Well I can't wait til this comes out, but the thing is I'm saving for my trip right now. I'll figure out somehow to buy this.
As for Rita and Runt, I liked them. But I wasn't a huge fan of Mindy, I liked Buttons, felt sorry for Buttons. The only one Mindy one I liked was where she was at like a construction site and she goes up to a couple of workers at lunch "Whatcha doing?" "Eating lunch" "Whhhy?" "Cuz it's lunch time" "Whhhhhy?" "Cuz we worked so hard." "Whhhhyyyyy?" Kinda irritating now that I think about it, but when you're a little kid watching this, you gotta bug your older sisters like this.
Sweet! I can't wait!
Along with everyone else, I dream of the day I can subject my younger relatives to have Candlejack nightmares just like I had.
Oh my god, thank god. That I wasn't the only one here that had dreams about Candlejack. It's good to hear Animaniacs, and Pinky and the Brain are coming to dvd. Now almost half of child hood cartoons are coming out in the next couple months with Animanics, Darkwing Duck, and The Tick. I'm very happy. I hope Freakazoid gets release soon now, since I love both Seasons to death.
Actually I would be all "Candlejack, Candlejack, Candlejack!" acting all brave and crap then I'd get scared and hide under the covers xD
Wish I could remember more, though. It's probably been 10+ years since I've seen it.
To add little bit more of my Candlejack story, is that when I was in 4th grade, whenever someone at school said Candlejack towards me, I begin laughing really hard.
I would buy a Freakazoid set for one reason and one reason only.
WE ARE LAWN GNOMES!

WE ARE LAWN GNOMES!
Oh my, I forgot how much I love the lawn gnomes episode. I never get tired of that line. Another reason I would buy this dvd would be if they karokee verison of Freakzoid theme song, and of course commentary on the Relax o vision episode, and the Candle Jack episode. And transalator for Boron.

OH MY GOD DARKWING DUCK AND THE TICK? MY ENTIRE CHILDHOOD NOW COMES IN A DVD BOX SET.
Yeah Darkwing Duck, and The Tick are coming out at the end of the August as well the frist set of Tales Spin. Now there is one more show that I'm acturally really want on dvd which is Power Rangers in Season boxsets. Because I really do want to get Mighty Morphin Seasons 1, 2, and 3, Zeo, Turbo, in Space, Time Force, and Dino Thunder box sets. Plus you can't never get enough of Bulk and Skull's crazy antics from the earlier seasons. hehe.
Heck yeah!
Though, I never saw enough of Freakozoid. Must get that if it comes out as well (just so I can actually see it for once XD).
I'm totally into watching old cartoons I loved as a kid again, and it shocks me how many are funnier now than when I was a kid.
Ya know why? Cuz these older cartoons actually aimed at both younger AND older audiences. They had enough slapstick themes to make kids love it and enough refrences for adults to be laughing as well (the few that still manage that seem to go further to the adult side, i.e. The Simpsons).
That is what makes a cartoon immortal. To be able to watch again and suddenly find all these humorous parts you didn't recognize when you were a kid (alot of older Disney movies were like this as well).
Today, most of the cartoons seem to ONLY aim at the younger audience, which seems to involve copying anime, making up puns, and being as crude as you possibly can. -_O

Don't forget mainstream pop culture references. I mean, it's good if you reference classics like Back to the Future or Batman, but if you do a Shrek and only fill up with current media fads you're really limitting the shelf life of your product.
And I swear, half the time it felt like Warner Bros. cartoons were more for adults than kids. There were all sorts of jokrs about Hollywood and celebrities(ESPECIALLY in Tiny Toons and Animaniacs) that went way over my head, and when I rewatch now I'm like "OHHH, THAT'S what that meant."
Darkwing Duck did that a lot too. Watching a rerun recently, I saw an episode called "Twin Beaks" which had all the dramatic camera angles, crappy lines, everything that Twin Peaks had. Also, there's an episode titled "Life, the Negaverse, and Everything" that I only just recently got as a Hitchhiker's Guide reference. Animaniacs was pure gold for those, though - famous actors, everything. I wish these cartoon makers would wisen up and make cartoons like they used to - I'd probably actually watch those channels again.
"DON'T SAY IT!"
@Cap'n:

Yeah, especially when it came to some of the subtle injokes or things that you had to pause to catch; there's one in particular that I remember.
See, Nickolodeon used to show Tiny Toons at about 2:00 or so, which was during one of my classes while I was attending junior college. As a result, I wind up taping it and watching it after I got home. So one day, I was watching an episode where Babs is singing some song and makes a reference to Mona Lisa, which was basically a proto-Hello Nurse type character with a gaggle of admirers. Babs knocks her off the screen with a mallet or something.
Something about the sequence seemed odd, so I backed it up again and went through it again. Still odd, but I just couldn't figure out what was so odd so I finally watched it in slow motion.
Turns out that when Lisa goes flying across the screen, one of the admirers sticks his hands up in the air and latches onto her chest as she goes by.
Normally, I'd say that S&P must have been asleep at the wheel on that one, but it's only something you can catch if you pause it and advance frame by frame.
Another reason I love youtube:
A funny little clip featuring Freakzoid, Wakko, and Brain arguing over whom Steven Speilberg loves the most. Hahahahaha!!

I remember that. Its from a second season ep. called "The Freakazoid" (slight parody of "The Godfather"). Good find.
Brought back after a few months to the release, I bump this thread.
I got the DVD yesterday and I love it.
The video is eh~, but that is the only downfall I see. It looks fine on the TV, but for some reason like crap on my computer o.O. The audio is great, and I still love the damn cartoon.

hahaha that is great! ah the memories… i so need to buy those dvds!
and for the record, I LOVE Rita and Runt! partially cuz of my love for musicals, hehe and cats ^_^
ooh i wonder which season the Super Strong Warner Siblings is on? that episode is still one of my favorites! And I used to watch Power Rangers at that time, lol!

It isn't in the first volume, I can say that.
ah, i figured XD anyway, i found it on Youtube XD
ahahaha been watching random eps on youtube, ah such fond memories! though, when I look back at the Great Wakkorotti skits… they were way funnier when I was a kid XD
