so, here's the deal.. have you been shoving one piece in your friends or family members faces with such a passion that they have been infected as well?
or are you the ones who have been corrupted?

i borrowed the first 30 episodes to my brother a few weeks back, and when we were chatting via msn yesterday, he told me that he watched the first seven episodes and became totally hooked. and then he watched some more, and more, and right now he's probably watching it again. at least that's why he sodded off from msn just a moment ago.

and i've been brainwashing my best friend as well, slowly during the past year, and now she's waiting the new chapters almost as anxiously as the rest of us. she is telling me to get my hands on them as soon as possible so i could tell her what has happened. (she's still in the state of denial and refuses to download them herself.)
she's also read the first 50 chapters or so, but then she sort of dropped.

and obviously i've been praising it to pretty much everyone i know.

how about the rest of you?

I gave my friend the first 40 eps. He finished them within a week. That was like a month ago. Now he's caught up with KF.
Unfortuantely, he's not a manga reader, but we will see about that at some point…

I've gotten some people interested…..I always give the disclaimer that the beginning of the series sucks a big one but it gets ten times better.

My friend got me into this. He was reading something called One Piece and I thought it sounded wierd until that fateful day when i saw the anime..

Though I have not gotten anyone into this except my brother. My friends whom I have tried to get them to read are not really interested in OP.

Yeah, that's what I do as well (well, not 'sucks a big one', but just that it picks up later on). I've gotten a few of my friends interested, but not to to the point of interest where I am. They prefer Naruto or something else over it, but think it's an alright show.

I kinda like to keep One Piece as my little own thing but I did borrowed some volumes to a friend. I wouldn't say he's hooked though but nevertheless he liked it. And my lil' bro thought Luffy's stupid so I left it there, he isn't much into comics and cartoons anyway.

I was at my cousin's house and i was like what animes do you have and he showed me one piece when i heard what the story was about i was like booooo it sucks but when i watched a few episodes i couldnt stop i watched it tell the end of arabasta and im waiting for k-F to do the rest.
I told a friend about one piece and he became a one piece maniac he watched so many episode, but my friend and I never liked the manga but we sure love the anime(anyway i got him and his brothers to watch it) :D

a guy read the first volume and said that Oda can't draw
so I never bothered with him again

then a fellow girl manga-reader, but then I had a long debate with her about why OnePiece IS NOT just another cliche/other-manga-ripoff
so I gave up on her too

then I tried to get an online friend to read it
but he likes to tease me with statements such as 'OnePiece sucks'
so I just don't care anymore
and I stop advertising it to people

I was into it way before my friends, but by the time I told them about it they'd already seen the English version so I can't take total credit. But I did show one of them where to get the weekly chapters and translations, so she can read up to the very latest ones. We kept trying to get another friend of ours interested, but she won't look at it because she thinks the character designs are weird.

My friend had only seen the dub and dosen't have a computer to watch subs. SO, being such a wonderfuf friend that I am, I drove her to the library where, after a little computer tinkering, I made her watch a few episodes. xD

i got one of my best freinds into it along with anime in general
i tried some of my other freinds too they liked it but they havent seen very much.
i also got my little sister into it but she will watch/ read alomost anything so it wasnt much of a chalange
ive tried to get my brither to watch it but its hard because he doesnt think it looks good but im very slowly geting him to watch

oh, i've been on a mission ever since i first officially got obsessed with One Piece - which, I think, was just right off the bat, after reading about Akai kami no Shanks.

Ever since then I have made it my goal to "infect" as many people as I can with the One Piece bug. I guess you can say it's been working well. I keep a sort of checklist and so far, I'm up to 15 people who now read the manga and keep up with the anime raws.

I get my younger sister to watch the anime episodes. She's not really a manga reader - of One Piece, anyway. She's more of a shoujo or shounen ai manga reader. But she fully acknowledges that One Piece is a LOT of fun.

I'm particularly proud of some "accomplishments" though. I got one of my college friends obsessed with Zoro and another with Usopp :)

I got into it on my own. I've managed to turn one other person into a fangirl by sending fansubs. ^^ I sent another person fansubs also, she's been too busy to watch them yet, though. << I keep hinting at my boyfriend to watch it, I can't seem to get him past the silliness he sees on the surface, though. I think he'd like it if he gave it a chance. There's a couple of other people I'd like to work on too. >)

I think I've managed to get one online friend to pick up the manga. That's it, as far as I know. My roommate refuses to watch it on the grounds that she "doesn't want to get into any more anime", my mom doesn't like animation, and I made copies of the K-F version of the Arlong arc for my dad and he's watched some of it but doesn't seem to really get it the way I do. Meh. Oh well, their loss, I think. ;)

I got into One Piece when my friend shoved it in my face once upon a time ^_^ but she has a short attention span and isnâ€t into it anymore. My friends (Iâ€m not sure how many of them 0_o) read One Piece. We sort of â€˜infectedâ€ each other I suppose :P .
I got one friend to read and love it, and my online friend really interested in it, though she hasnâ€t watched or read it.

I haven't been on much of a quest to get people into OP. I have gotten my friend Sara partially into it, but not hardcore. I think if you guys want to get your friends into OP, hire Kalei chan…..who's had so much success getting people into it. lol

One Piece is one of those anime/manga series that I can't shut up about…so of course I am going to shove it in people's faces. That's sort of how I got my girlfriend into it.

I never really set out to make anyone read it, but I talk about it so much and people see me reading it a lot at school, that people sort of… became interested in it without me trying.

For example, a ton of girls know who Sanji is just because I put a pin of him on my school blazer. My friend found a volume while she was out shopping and brought it. And another friend got all excited when he saw an advert for OP coming to UK TV (^^).

My friends aren't as interested in One Piece as they are in Sanji ^^ I spend every waking moment with them trying to get them into the series, though. For example:

Friend: singing Naruto theme song Fumikomuze akuseru kake hiki wa naisa sou dayooo…

Me: _....

I managed to get my mom hooked. We're near the end of the Drum arc, but my HK subs broke down and I haven't gotten around to watching the K-F eps with her yet. She says she actually LIKES the HK subs. O_o Well, whatever. As long as she likes One Piece, I'm ecstatic.

So far I've only gotten one friend into One Piece. But, if we both talk about One Piece enough around my other friends, it's sure to make them all go crazy and have to watch/read it. Since most of my friends don't read manga it's easier to get them into the anime.

I think I got the entire population of a forum into One Piece, once, by constantly advertising it everywhere until they all gave in and started watching it to the point of obsession.

It's one of my most cherished accomplishments.

In terms of ''Real Life'' (Pshaw!), I got about two friends into the anime, and my sister is now officially a huge fan of the manga. (She bought Volume 36 before I got a chance to get it! It's INSANE!)

I wouldn't try to get my family to watch it since my mom is oblivious and thinks anime is cartoon porn, my dad probably wouldn't like it (he mainly likes mature series like Cowboy Bebop), and my younger sister is probably the biggest conformist in the world, so to her, anime is "gay ass yugioh, pokemon shit." <_< She did watch part of 4Shit's dub yesterday and actually laughed when Sanji said "I could eat my shoes if I had any." at which point I smacked her over the head.

I'd try to force One Piece onto my friends that like anime at school, but most of them are all die-hard Naruto and Inuyasha fangirls that have never even heard of One Piece. They probably wouldn't like it anyway since it doesn't have any main male characters that have extremely long hair and look female. <_<

My little sister gave it a look, but left the room after realizing that the Sanji/Nami thing was just a gag."Ma-Mamoru-kun! I can't! I'm in love with Tako-chan and I have a big test tomorrow!" If a line like this isn't in it, she ain't watchin'.

hmm…so far I've gotten about 10 people into it. 4 close friends, and 6 online friends. I myself didn't join One Piece for awhile because I saw a REALLY weird picture of Luffy way back when and I didn't think I'd like the series much. Well, about a year and a half later I decided to download an episode and I was hooked IMMEDIATELY, from episode 1. I watched 64 episodes in two and a half days, and I've been addicted ever since.

Oh yeah! I've recently "corrupted" one of my friends into OP! We watch episodes every day for 5 or more hours. The last episode he's watched is 100 and he started all this only 2-3 days ago! :rolleyes: We stay up late at night until 5 am watchin', laughin' and comenting! It's really fun corrupting other people into OP! XD

i told that to my brother too, but still he fell into it during 7 episodes. it took even me longer than that. nothing even happens in the first seven episodes. luffy floats around in a barrel, and zoro is tied to a pole. buggy comes and cabaji goes around in that unicycle-thing.
when i'll go home for easter, i'll probably take the arlong arc with me, so we can watch it, but it scares me what will happen. because after that, there's just no turning back.

The thing with the beginning of the series is that, with how amazing it got later, the beginning looks bad in retrospect. But I remember when I read the first volume, I was so hooked that I immedietly went out and got the rest of the series, so it's not that there's not worthwhile stuff in there.

My attention was caught just enough in the beginning to continue to watch, but I remmeber that I almost wanted to stop after watching episode 8. (If an anime REALLY bores me, I struggle to make it to even 5 episodes.) I'm glad I didn't give up. ^_^ In retrospect, the early episodes really do pale in comparision to what comes later. I generally warn people of that too. It seems like most people really get into by the middle of Baratie, and if not by then, definately by Arlong Park.

I know what you mean. The first chapter I read in Jump was the one where Luffy beat Mohji. I was like, "haha, this kid is awesome!" The series gets better as it goes on, but I still love the early arcs.

Though when I recommend the manga, I always say it's not good until volume 8…

I always read the manga first, and that gets me into the series. I quite liked the beginning :huh: but I suppose that was only because of the manga :P. So, if I want to get someone into One Piece, I make them read it first.

It's hard to get people (especially those who aren't shonen lovers) into One Piece because of the distinctive art style. At lot of the times when I praise the series to people they'll go, "But the art is so fugly and weird!" Then I have to restrain myself from opening a can of whoop-ass and try to explain it to them again.

Here at my college I'm the social chair of the Sci-Fi/Fantasy Society, but so far I've only been able to convert one girl, despite all the anime-lovers in the club. The main reason right now being that nobody has the time to watch such a long series (we're worked hard). The girls hear me talk about it plenty though, so they are slightly in the loop. But they are slightly weirded out by how, well, weird the series is, despite being plenty weird themselves. For example, my suite-mate says that she appreciates One Piece for what it is, but for her she can't really get into it.

So it's a lonely road I trudge . . . but I keep trying. Seeing all the Mugiwara Kaizokudan flags at Otakon last summer gave me hope.

I got two into it in one day. 4 by the end of the week.

I tell ya folks, it's hard to make other people OP fans with 4kids dubbing it. It's considered shitty kiddy anime now by all the "Anime Fan" posers but the TRUE anime fans will still take a look at the beauty on the inside. One Piece…w-will you m-m-marry me?

I totally hear you on that one! I tried to convert a friend of mine recently, but once I told him how many episodes there were, he started to freak.

Plus, I always felt that the first 15 episodes (or the first 3 volumes of the manga) were kinda lame. I had a hard time getting into the characters (especially Nami! But after watching the Arlong arc, she's now my fave character! Go fig..). So now, when I try to convert people, I warn them to keep giving it a chance until after the first 15 episodes. I try to elude to the awesomeness that is the Arlong Arc as much as possible in order to seduce them into watching more. ;D

I've actually become known as "The crack dealer" on campus here. I've never even been to the anime club, but a few friends of mine who attend tell me that I'm talked about over there.

I've been getting people hooked since about 2002 and have over 70 hooked through either real life or online connections. That list includes at least 15 former anime-haters. Just recently I got my Japanese TA hooked on the series and now she's able to get me the newest books as they come out from Japan for free. <3 Much love to Midori san.

A few weeks ago my friend Amy said I needed to burn some OP manga for a friend of her friend. I have no idea how he knew I had the series but it seems my name has become infamous among the anime community in this city.

I burned the discs and wrapped them in computer paper since I have no more CD sleeves. The woman who picked them up did so on the side of the road while we were on our way to the Reitz building for lunch. She stopped, I gave her the package, she gave me a receipt with her friend's AIM on it (the recipient of the series) and drove off all in the matter of about 20 seconds. Amy and I laughed our asses off as we realized what that must've looked like to any passing cop or pedestrian, it seems I'd actually earned my name.

Another incident happened during Japanese one day. Everyone in there knows that I hook people on One Piece and despise Naruto. During class someone's cell phone went off and the entire room fell silent, the ringtone was a Naruto theme. They all looked at me as I gripped my pencil and asked in a low voice "…Who's the Naruto fan…?" Needless to say the phone stopped immediatly followed by a nervous laugh. Yeah, that kid's hooked on One Piece now.

I think I may have a potential convert in my dorm. This really nice girl I talk to who's a genuine listener, and she's interested in anime. (never seen any of it) after I recovered from my heart attack when I heard she hadn't seen ANYTHING, I brought her to my room to lend her all my Miyazaki DVDs (cause that's the best place to start). She was gratifyingly impressed by my hordes of DVDs and piles and piles of manga, and impressed with the degree of maturity in the manga (blooood!!) . . . . then she noticed my One Piece posters. She was a bit entranced by them. When she asked what it was and I told her One Piece, she was like, "I really like cartoony art like this!"

I only have 1 friend that likes One piece, but he doesnt like to read scanlations so he has only read up to volume 24..

I told him to read One piece, but he didnt want to, he tought it was to childish and he prefered Lotr. So one day he slept over at my house and I said to him to give one piece one more chance and then when he read til Lucky Lou shoot that bandit and he was "omg, there's blood, cool, I like this comic"… he has never read manga before, so he didnt know that there is sometimes violence and sex in manga.. -.- He probally thought it was like Donald Duck or something..
