I cannot recall a moment in the history of One Piece where has Usopp ever run away from a serious fight permenantly and left it to someone else. He's tried, but always ended up sticking to it in the end. So that is not "so Usopp".
True that they weren´t snipers but they both fought on the field of long range attacks. Chew should shoot water and Mr. 4 was "shooting" exploding balls. Ok, that isn´t really sniping skills but it these fighting styles don´t require any skill in close combat.
I have no interest in the Usopp or Sanji vs. Jabura argument. Just thought to add my two cents about Chew and Mr. 4.

One thing I learned of Oda's style after reading One Piece for so many years is that his attention to details and that the most ridiculous things seems always to have a purpose.

Of the CP9, I always though that there are nine of them, because of the 9. If I'm not mistaken Nero is not CP9, but a candidate for CP9, does that means that there's someone who quit CP9 that they need replacements?
Actually, I think Nero was the newest member of CP9. Still in his training but also being given field missions. So he was the ninth member, but he got "fired" when Lucci Shigan'd him.
Califa's bubble bath was a hint; she's playing a game trying to make Nami trying to guess her powers, and the bath was a hint.

I think the bath was a taunting of Nami. But I just wonder how well Calipha can control her new power. It may be Nami's one advantage. I think the question we need to ask is this…
Will her new power crack us up like it did with Kakuraffe? Or will it astound us with its ingenious power?
I think it's (sadly) going to be sexy as hell. Making this fight perfect for drooling fanboys. But I'm probably wrong. I hope Calipha puts up a good fight. KICK SOME ASS BEFORE IT HAPPENS TO YO'SELF, that's what we need. no one-sided fights.
Hmm, going along with the spider/web idea… It would make sense to some extent because in both on her fights, as of yet, she has created a small period prior to the fight (drinking tea with Sanji and now the bath with Nami,) so this could mean that she is preparing and laying her strings around the place in order to trap her opponent.
It kinda fits her personality as well, since spiders (or atleast in manga/anime that I've read) tend to taunt and play with their prey, and having a tea party with women-obsessed Sanji was pretty damn torturous.
I have a small theory about the power, but it only explains the effects on Nami: it´s some kind of "weakness transmision" power: when Califa was having a bath, she was supposed to be suffering the effects of the sea BUT if she could "send" the weakness to another person/thing (Nami), she could have a normal bath. That´s why Nami recovered after Califa went out of the bathroom…:unsure:
Would Califa have the effect of the sea only on her leg(s) though? I would think that if she was over half-submerged (which Nami didn't think she was,) her entire body would be under the effect of the sea.
Going with that theory though, could she even use her devil fruit powers to counter the effects the sea has on her devil fruit abilities :blink: ?
I somehow don't think there is any real devil fruit that can counter every disadvantage that the fruit gives you. Ao'Kiji can counter it to some extent, but I don't think he can stop sea-stone or if fully submerged he could freeze the water before the effects hit him. Logia users are a rule unto themselves to some extent though….

I don't want to sound like a broken record, but this chapter was pretty f'ing good. Kumadore (sp?) and Chopper's fight was better than any fight we've seen in this arc (W7/Puffing Tom/EL) so far, and now we get to see how destructive is Beserker Chopper. Lack of character development be damned…
However, I just don't care about the Nami/Calipha fight. This is supposed to be Nami's badass moment, finally taking down somebody that doesn't look down on her, yet here she is being underestimated by another woman. It feels like the Mrs. Doublefinger fight except without all the comedy of her figuring out her weapon. Kinda lame so far (but then again, that's what I thought about the Kumadore/Chopper fight and look how that turned out)

I think that if Chopper does hurt somebody, it will be ussop. If Chopper does seriously hurt one of his friends during monster form, even if it is later in the story, especially ussop, he will really reconsider his value on the crew. Even if its monster form takes 3RBs, he will really be hesitant in using the rumble balls at all. If he injures a member, he will break down and be all messed up like a teenager would be. But, htat could be later on, so he will kick Kumadori's $**.
Also with Nami/Calipha, she will probably have to perfect the Ultimate Clima a bit more to have a serious fight. There will probably be loads of awkward momens since theyre trying new things since both Nami and Calipha are trying to master their new powers. But Nami will probably be running away a lot cause Calipha can still kill her even without her fruit powers.
I think everyone has their hands full (for the next 3 minutes) and won't pop in on Chopper while he decimates Kumadori. If anything, someone may come in after he rampages and is back to his cute cuddly self.
Oh well, we'll see!

i think Franky will be the one to clash with Chopper. i would like to see Franky and Kumadori both simply struggling to survive, not even caring about who's the enemy. Chopper will absolutely destroy Kumadori, but Franky will give him a hard time. in fact, in my mind, Franky being the one to snap him out of it would fit perfectly. Chopper and Franky only just recently met, and it was apparent that Chopper was very reluctant to trust him. i know this sounds stupid, but Franky vs Monster Chopper could be a way the two of them somewhat "bond", after which Chopper would be more willing to accept him as nakama. and i think gaining Chopper's trust and respect is undoubtedly harder than gaining the trust and/or respect of any of the other Straw Hats.

Sexy fights get on my nerves. The reason that OP is the ONLY manga I truly enjoy is the lack of huge boobs/scantily clad women. Although that did change somewhere between Whiskey Peak and Alabasta. WHY did Nami's breasts get larger?? Must be the effects of the Grand Line's magnetic field.

Don't get me wrong. Boobs are great, but when female characters run around wearing a shoelace and two cocktail napkins, it's annoying because you just know they're pandering to the geeks.
Not sure if this was said already (after all, we're up to page 24+ already) but:
I always figured Kalifa's power had more to do with glass or plastic than anything else. After all, when Sanji had fallen through the roof, he was covered in some kind of substance that prevented him from moving much. Maybe Nami's legs were probably encased in it as well, keeping her from moving either (and the substance itself wasn't as obviously visible because she's not as strong and thus less of it was needed).
And lastly, since she took a bath and was still able to move regardless she might have put a thin coat of it around herself as well.

Here are my 3 cents about the next chapter-
1- Chopper vs. Kumadori will end
2- We find out what Califa's DF is and Nami vs. Califa start
3- In the end of the chapter we see Sanji deciding to team up with Nami to beat Califa (Nami+Sanji vs. Califa).

How would she be able to 'attack' with it though?, as much as I would like to believe it there's just too many problems with that theory. For one thing if she's able to attack with whatever she touches not only does that widen her power scope exponentially (which would probably push her up from the bottom past fukurou) but it will also makes it a little ridiculous (imo) and much harder for nami to defeat her considering how many tricks franky had to pull off to take the fuku myster down. Plus it would be a bit of a shift aswell I think considering that devil fruit users usually have a main 'ability' and figure out their own ways of widening the ability's potential. So by automatically being able to use 'everything' you touch would spoil it for me (but again it's just my opinion).
if Calipha really can attack with whatever she's touching..nami gonna be in the big trouble. I wonder if she can touch the lightning n hit nami back with lightning…well...another eneru...

If Calipha can has the 'transfer' fruit as people have been suggesting (and honestly that's probably the most logical thing I've seen given the evidence we have), she is probably at least on par with kaku and jyabura.
I mean she's able to drain her opponent's strength, the only weakness I can think of is she her ability seems to 'lose effect' once she stops touching something, like how Nami regained her strength when Calipha got out of the bath. It's great if Calipha can disable her opponents, but assuming she also has to be disabled, it's not 'that' great, at least not without good tactical use.
Very weird and unlikely scenario, but even though I wouldn´t be surprised to see Monster Chopper own Kumadori pretty quick only to have Sanji dropping in to see if he needs help. Well and then Sanji vs. Monster. :biggrin:
maybe this is a silly comment, but i don't think Nami was immobile as a result of Calipha being in the bath water. if Calipha was indeed transferring her weakness from water to Nami, and Nami wasn't able to get up at all… how did Calipha stand up and get out of the bath with no problem? :blink:
i guess one could argue that her legs are a lot stronger than Nami's as a result of Rokushiki training or something. they would NEED to be very strong to use abilities like Soru and Geppou. but still... i think the "Plastic Plastic Fruit" is a much more plausible theory, and the bath was simply meant to insult Nami and her inability to fight back (and to appease the "drooling fanboys":laugh: ).

This touch transfering thing doesn't seem right…I reread chpt.402 and 401 and she wasn't touching any glass, besides the tea cup which she put down a while before she started fighting Sanji and I don't think she was touching water when she started fighting Nami.
I kinda agree on the "plastic plastic fruit", but why didn't Nami become shiny? Ooo… going back to an really old topic before the Kalifa DP power, I just realized that monster chooper kinda looks like the chimera monsters in "Full Metal Alchemist" (dark hallow eyes) O_o
Either way I hope Nami can beat Kalifa up, like to see Nami use the upgraded weapon. :)

Actually CP9 does not mean there are nine members inside. The number 9 refers to the organisation being the 9th one. Besides CP9, there are CP1 to CP8. It's being mentioned in volume 36 or 37.

I'd take this opportunity to explain myself. First of all, I apoplogize for using the wrong words, as in "that's just so Usopp". What I intend to do is to state a possibility. Since to Usopp, Sanji is a strong fellow, he might think that SAnji doesn't need help. Moreover Zoro was there as well, so he might just run away.
