I've been looking around the forums lately and I've noticed that you people really love Franky. Being doomed to watch One Piece mostly by the dub, I've never got to know Franky. I do know that he was popular enough to win the 2nd One Piece tourney. I've also seen a lot of Franky fanarts scattered about. I was wondering if anyone is bored and would like to tell me a bit about Franky. I have a few Franky questions that I'd like answered.

-Is he a cyborg or an android?
-Did he eat a devil fruit?
-Is he part of the Straw-Hat Pirates?
-Did Oda make him look like a lifeguard on purpose?

I was also wondering if anyone has any short clips of Franky in action. I've seen his cenutar transformation, but that's all.

I never thought of him looking like a lifeguard. He's just got sort of a beach bum/Popeye/Ace Ventura/Rock n'Roll look. XD

The metal plate on his nose looks like sunscreen. He's also wearing a speedo, Hawaiian shirt, and sunglasses. That just screams out "lifeguard" to me.

My computer sucks and won't download anything longer than 6 minutes. Taboo hooked me up with some fansubs of the Kuro and Arlong arcs on CDs, but other than that I just have the dub.

I've watched up to the episode with frankey's flashback. I still don't see what the big deal is with Franky. Not that I hate him, I just don't see what's got so many people excited. At least We've got a guy in a showey outfit for once. I like to see fair play. Too bad he looks like popeye the surfer dude.

hes a dismatler in water7. him and his franky family are like the mafia of water 7. franky's dream is to build his dream ship. so aside from being a dismantler and basically a crime boss hes also a quite good shipwright. he was trained by tom along side iceberg. he can also play an instrument that resembles a banjo. he is followed by the square sisters who have big noses and square hair. they pretty much mimic everything he does….and before i say anymore, do you care is stuff i say spoils a couple parts in the story?

edit: captain. i too didn't see franky's greatness for awhile. i believe most of it comes after the flashback. but as awesome as franky is...i still prefer paulie...i don't know why

! well just to start franky's real name is cutty flam. Tom,His teacher built the ship gold roger used. so he was taken to enies lobby to be executed. but franky tried to stop the sea train from taking him by standing in front of it. needless to say it didn't work. so franky rebuilt himself. now hes pretty much invinceable except for his back. now franky carries the blueprint for pluton. now enough about his past. the strawhats encounter him in a bad way. they cash in the gold they got from skypiea. and when usopp is guarding it some of the franky family decides to take. usopp doesn't like that idea. so they beat the crap out of him. they usopp goes to the franky house and trys to take it back…they beat the crap out of him again. the strawhats don't like that. so luffy,zoro,chopper,and sanji go and destory the franky house as well as beating the crap out of all but franky and the square sisters. despite the way franky seems hes really not a total jerk. later on him and usopp are captured together. you may or may not know but usopp left the crew because they wanted to get rid of merry. well usopp and franky actually get along quite well. sanji also gets along with franky now. really the only one who still hates franky is luffy..oh and franky built ships that could defeat sea kings in his younger days. but those ships were used to attack a government ship to frame franky,iceberg,and tom. the charges were going to be dropped from tom because he built a sea train but because of that they weren't. and i think thats it.

Well there's one part of that was wrong

! Well the charges were dropped. Tom, Franky, and Tom got a set of charges because of the attack. Tom chose to drop the charges for the attack and he was exucated for the first set of charges. So he was able to save Iceburg and Franky.

Plus Franky just fits right in. I agree with what was said earlier- when he's first introduced he comes off as such an evil guy you think he's going to be the next villain, but you grow to love him. He's just so UNIQUE.

Oh, and he's 34. Just throwing that out there, because I remember that was one tidbit that REALLY weirded me out.

I love Franky. Yeah, he's kind of a jerk…a little rough around the edges, but he's also a sensitive guy on the inside. :biggrin: I love how he gets all sappy and cries while saying "I'm not crying, idiot!" He's probably my second favorite character in One Piece now.

You know what, Buc, you hitted the right spot. While Franky sure acts immature most of the time, a lot, he can also be very mature – or a fatherly figure. The way he handled Usopp's feeling, and Robin's, kind of let us see it. I say if Franky had been on the crew before the Luffy VS Usopp showdown, perhaps the fight would had never occurred between the friends.

Dunno, I'm not so hot for Franky anymore, my love has been diminishing as his popularity has grown huge. And I even used like to call myself the original Franky fanboy. But! But I still think he's good character and he will join for sure -- it's not really up to what I think anyway. Or what fandom thinks. It's up to what Oda thinks.

I loved him when I first saw him.

If he joins the Strawhats (more than likely), he'll definitely be my favorite member.

y'know. i never thought i'd say this but… Franky has grown on me. He tends to do that, I noticed. I actually have accepted that he's probably going to be the next crew member. Paulie.... hasn't really done anything. I love him, but I guess the fact that Oda didn't really explore his character didn't help.

Though, I'd never call myself a huge fan of Franky, I can still respect the guy. He really is unique, just like all the other Straw Hats. (no wonder he'd fit in)

Franky must join. He was a great villian for the short time he was one, and now he's looking more and more like a great addition to the crew. Luffy wanting a musician and a shipwright to join the crew also works in since Franky is a bit of both….and he just rocks.

When I frist saw Franky, I was freaked out by his appearance; and his speedos bothers me. I remamber back in the old fourm(when chapter 345 was out), someone said Franky should join.

I remamber cussing about Franky and saying he should not join. I would picture Franky mockly saying "Hello, ladies, feelen stupid?"

I was mad at how he treated Usopp and I hated him because of his appearance

But in chapter 351, he acted like a father towards Usopp. When his flashback appears, he started to grow on me. I like the way he acts on the Puffing Tom, acting immature and wacky. He tries to help Robin and he join the Straw Hats to fight the CP9.

Franky was now my 2nd favorite One Piece character, he's a cyborg, he's funny, he's smart but sometimes dumb, he acts like a father figure(Which the Straw Hats need to have), He's 35 years old, he can be mature at parts. He was wierd and whacky. Man, it'll be stupid if Oda keeps him in Water 7, the Straw Hats need someone older beside Robin to watch over them and teach them

Sanji Of Straw

Honestly, I dont care for Franky. I don't see much potential for him as a strawhat, and he seems to overpowered. If Franky Joins you'll have 4 Superpowered fighters which seems to make the strawhats stronger than I think they should be at this point.

I see Paulie as a much better choice for a strawhat, when he and luffy were shackled to the floor, their conversation just showed me how great Paulie would be to the crew. And Paulie is still fairly strong but not superpowered like franky.

I now know that its about 99% sure that Franky will join. I really wish Paulie would join, but I trust Oda in what he does.

Franky just hasn't done anything for me so far; I don't like him and I'm not looking forward to him joining the crew. I'll give that he has an excellent, perfectly written background, but it makes me appreciate the creator more than the character.

Didn't someone say that he hadn't gone over well with the fans in Japan?

I love Franky, and personally, I hope that Franky Family and parts of Galley-La might join (certainly not likely). But I'm still burning over the fact that Wiper didn't join. I really liked him. But Franky made me forget that. Strawhats are goofy, with Robin being the only exception, and Franky fits in like a glove with all the characters.

I'm also hoping after Enies Lobby, Robin might become more goofy and adorable like the other Strawhats. It would really make her seem more like she's one of the crew than she already is.

Franky is my favorite character and he was listed a mugiwara in 377 so I think it'd be a crime if he doesn't join.

What is wrong with Robin the way she is? She is not going to get goofy after Enies Lobby. Just because we know her past does not mean she'll get goofy, that's OOC. Nami was bitchy before we knew her past but after Arlong was defeated Nami was still bitchy and now she's still bitchy. Robin will always be a mature-thamed silance woman, she is not going to show goofy expression.

Why do people want Robin to change into a goofy, talkitive, OOC person? What's wrong with the way she is?

Sorry to sound bossy, I don't like it when some people wanted a goofy Robin. If Robin starts popping out eyes, I get really piss off, that would just not be Robin. Her realitic fashion emotions and normal-thamed personally makes her a unique character.

Asking for a goofy Robin is like asking for a honest, mature, strong Usopp.

Franky's so awesome he should have his own series. I have NO idea what Paulie or any other random Mugiwara candidates have that the Frank doesen't have.

not to get too offtopic, but it would be cool if they had two shipwrights instead of just one… i know its unlikely, but at least then Paulie would have a shot at becoming a Strawhat alongside Franky.

Paulie's a good character to me, but I dunno. He's just so unlikey. I thought it was harsh when someone called him a "random candidate," but really, that's very true. Him amounting to anything at all would just feel forced. I mean, check out the response to Solid's simple suggestion of him joining the current fight.

Franky is my favorite character right now, and I wouldn't mind too much if he didn't join, but….yeah, it's just really unlikely.

For those that don't like Franky now, I wouldn't be surprised if he grows on you later. It took a long time for a lot of people to really start to like Usopp, which is kind of sad.
