So theres only 4 day prices?
how much is it just for 1 day?
Forgot to post that info:
Single Day: $35
Two Day: $50 (I'm assuming it'll have to be two consecutive days like last year)

Wow. I'll be going, since it will likely be my last AX for a while and it'd be cool to see some AP members, but they better have a good show lined up to justify those prices.
…although I'm never sober at AX so I probably won't care.
The podcast will most likely take the trip across the country for the convention (Ed and I) and meet up with our west coast contributor, Firecrouch. Hopefully things won't be too dysfunctional.
How many AP members go to AX, usually, by the way? I've really only know of ones that have shown up at the cosplay gathering.
I met up with maybe four non-cosplayers who approached me as fellow One Piece fans that identified as AP members last year at AX. That's a lot for just one cosplayer to meet, let alone the myriad of awesome cosplayers I met around the con and at the gathering.

Hmm. Make sure to let me know when you are in the area. Maybe I will come to the expo this year to take pictures for The Pirate Summit (AP/UAPPC).

I had intended to go last year, but my wedding anniversary and yearly Yosemite vacation fall in the same month, so I was short on pennies and time off. The same applies this year, but if I plan a little more ahead I should be able to make it. My best friend (a member here, even if he only lurks) keeps bugging me about going too. Not that I don't want to go, but he has been really wanting to go for the past few years. We have some nerd quota we have to meet or something…

We're going to try and do a panel (so all AP members be sure to go and represent!) and I'll be sure to let you know.
Just try not to make it conflict with the Viz Panel and Funimation Panel, because I'm sure you'd like to attend and comment about it for your podcast. Also, hopefully you won't make it the same time as the OP cosplay gathering.

I'll try not to do all those things, but the convention controls the schedule, not me.
Just a reminder for those wanting to attend 3 or 4 convention days–
This is the last month you can pay for the Full AX Pass for $65. Starting in May, it goes up to $75 I believe. And once more at con. Single day and Double day badges have already capped until at con.
Friendly reminder–
4-day convention badge: currently $65, jumps to $75 starting May 1
2-day convention badge: $50, already capped and must be consecutive days
1-day convention badge: $35, already capped
THERE WILL BE NO EXHIBIT HALL ONLY BADGES SOLD AT CON
Also, recently announced guest of honor: Katsuyuki Konishi
One of the most popular and established voice actors in all of Japan, Mr. Konishi has lent his talents to hundreds of well-known anime titles. His role as Kamina in the Gurren Lagann TV Series, Johann Trinity in Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Komui Lee in D.Gray-man, and Ozma Lee in Macross Frontier, have helped solidify his position as an accomplished Japanese seiyuu.
In addition, Mr. Konishi has worked on such famous anime titles as Blood+ (Haji), Kyo kara Maoh! (Shouri Shibuya), Rune Soldier (Louie), Shaman King (Amidamaru), as well as countless others. He also performs Japanese dubs for popular American films such as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Sex and the City and High School Musical.
I'm hoping to go just one day this year, probably Saturday, unless another day turns out to have something I don't want to miss.
Just saying, Saturday has the OP cosplay gathering with Davy Back Fight games a half-hour beforehand. Come participate with, watch, or mock us. It's all in good fun.
I just sent in a request to see if our panel is indeed happening. Anime Expo sure has much more stringent standards concerning Press and Panelists than any other convention I've seen, not so sure if I like it.
Yeah, things are taking a turn for the strange behind the scenes of AX. New CEO brings out new policies, and everyone is already fearing that AX won't be as fun as earlier years. It was already starting to diminish in my eyes the past couple of years, but I still had lots of fun.
Kamina's VA attending is a good sign though. Hopefully they'll get some more caliber Guests of Honor.

I about shat myself when they announced Nabeshin as a guest of honor. I love that guy.
On the AX AMV Contest side of things, just completed and submitted 3 videos (one of them being another ONE PIECE one), while trying to finish a fourth (again, another ONE PIECE one). The AX Editors are hosting a meet and greet, so might go to that as well.
I want to go to the AMV contest this year to support you LC. Still kind of upset that we didn't get to see it last year.

Well I haven't gotten in yet (although I like my odds with three submissions), but just pray that I finish this fourth one; it was going to be my creme' de la creme' Action video but somehow time snuck up and with only 7 days til deadline I don't know if I'll make it. Not to mention after 4 straight months of hardcore AMV making I'm running on fumes and, frankly, getting sick of it.
I realize this is a double post and I apologize, but aparently there's not going to be an arcade at this year's Anime Expo. What a shame, since I was planning on finally playing Pop 'N Music. Does this little bit of news affect any of you, or is this really not that big a deal?
All these years I have never known there was an arcade at AX.
I didn't really have a lot of time to go to the arcade, and there were also a couple of other things: not much small bills to break for arcade money, I suck at fighting and music games, and the prize games are a money vaccuum.
Also, to save money, I would just go to console gaming.

Part of the fun of the arcade was the Para Para dancing, as there were people there who were not only crazy good at that game, but were also damn good looking which does not compute in my stereotypic brain that says only unattractive people could love a game that much. But getting back on the topic, the arcade was a great place to experience games I'd never have had the opportunity to see much less play anywhere else. Sounds like they're in last minute debate to bring it back though, so here's hoping.
Also, the AMV Finalists have been posted on A-M-V.org. I made Action Finalists again, and once again it's a One Piece video. Although in my opinion it's nowhere near as good as The Good Ship Lifestyle, your all welcome to come and see my massive fluke in action Day 1 at the Nokia.
Damn, get a load of this:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-06-29/merchants-object-to-anime-expo-exhibit-hall-changes
@Anime News Network:
A group of merchants has been lobbying Anime Expo (AX) to reverse changes that the Los Angeles convention has made to the move-in policy for its exhibit hall this year. The merchants — mostly small to mid-sized dealers selling anime, t-shirts, and other merchandise — say that the new rules will significantly increase their costs, and in some cases, make it impossible for them to generate a profit at Anime Expo this weekend.
The primary issue for the merchants revolves around the modified fees for "drayage" — the cost of moving items from the shipping dock outside to an exhibitor's booth inside. In particular, the convention policy has changed for the "cartload" service, which is the service for exhibitors to move items into the hall at reduced prices compared to the full drayage service.
According to a board director of Anime Expo's parent organization, the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA), last year's cartload service allowed the exhibitors to move in (and out) up to two 800-pound (363-kilogram) cartloads of items per 10-foot by 10-foot (9-square-meter) booth space, at a cost of US$125 per cartload. The rate translates to US$0.16 per pound for up to 1,600 pounds (726 kilograms).
According to IDG World Expo, the company handling the exhibit hall this year, exhibitors are now allowed to bring in up to three cartloads of items per 10-foot by 10-foot booth space. However, the cartloads are to be limited to 250 pounds (113 kilograms) each. Each cartload costs US$55, which translates to $0.22 per pound for up to 750 pounds (340 kilograms).
Once exhibitors have reached their cartload limit, they must use standard drayage rates to move in the remainder of their items. Drayage rates run between US$0.70 per pound and US$0.83 per pound, depending on the total quantity of items moved in. This compares with 2009 rates which were approximately US$0.60 per pound. All drayage costs include the move-in and the move-out.
In order to decrease costs for exhibitors, IDG World Expo has made a special one-way move-in price scheme available. Exhibitor will be able to move goods they expect to sell into the exhibit hall at a cost of US$0.56 per pound.
However, the interviewed merchants claim that, regardless of this special one-way rate, the significant decrease in the capacity of the cartload service means that they will have to move much more merchandise at the higher full drayage rates. According to one merchant, this will increase their move-in/move-out costs by as much as 200%.
The merchants also claim that they were informed of the changes to the cartload service after the final deadline to confirm attendance and that, had they chosen to pull out of their exhibition contracts, they would have lost their deposits. Some merchants have stated that they will decrease the quantity of merchandise they will make available for sale at AX in order to reduce their costs.
When ANN spoke with an SPJA board member on June 14, we were informed that the matter would be looked into. However, since that time, neither the SPJA nor IDG World Expo has responded to any requests for comment on the issue.
Pretty slimy stuff goings on.
Ugh, that sucks. First, paying extra to go to concerts and the Masquerade, to increased fees for vendors? When vendors have less stuff to sell, that makes exhibit hall foot traffic even less. Most panels are already pointless to me, but at least they have their followers and interests.
They sure picked a terrible time to make this an "experiment year" for AX.
And for those wondering about the extra costs for concerts and Masquerade, see their "Main Event Ticketing FAQ" – http://www.anime-expo.org/guides/main-event-ticketing/
Bump because Day 0 is today, and people should be picking up badges tonight.
Also, looks like AX struck a deal with Arcade Infinity, and there WILL be arcade games at AX. Good for AI, since I have friends who go there.
tokyopop will have a truck outside somewhere at AX ,according to the twitter messages im getting
the only problem i have every year is transportation.. tickets are cheap so its not a problem.

Jesus I've never waited in a badge Pick-up line before, FOR 2 AND A HALF HOURS. Needless to say I was acting very, very silly by the end of it all due to the sheer boredom and the slight onset of Cabin Fever, so hopefully no one in the line who saw me in my Arlong Park Forums T-Shirt 2.0 will think that I was a representation of the general attendance here.
Other than that, pretty good day 0: drive into L.A. was fun and smooth, driving around L.A. looking for Little Tokyo was not-so-fun and very bumpy, parked in an Office Supply lot which will tow my car if I left the premesis (which I did, and no they didn't), Scored major groceries in the Little Tokyo Market, including this kickass peach drink called 'Gokuri', rice crackers that apparently were Soy Sauce flavored, and about a dozen riceballs. I do feel bad though about not going down to an AMV meet and greet, but it was worth it to just crash in the room with my sister, piggin out on Japanese foodstuffs watching Kuitan and Doctor Who on the (altered) TV.
Is it true that Toei will have a stand!? If so can someone mention a Nicktoons TV Deal For One Piece.
