Man the curry down here is amazing D: Im up for that :D Ho Would love to try some curry down here and go to a store that he been wanting to go since I told him about it XD
Anime Expo, CA [Early July]
-
-
Suddenly this talk about curry makes me want to go out to Little Tokyo specifically just for it.
Apparently there's Para Para Paradise machines littered about the area that I need to go play on. Heh, going to Cali is going to be overly phenomenal.
-
I'm not into Japanese food. I'll have to skip that. Then again, I don't know if I'll be there on day 0 to begin with.
-
How about Japan town + Curry House?! I heard recently we got Curry House here ourselves, but also heard it's no where close to the ones down there :S
I haven't had (good) curry in a while, so count me in. We also have to bring e1n, so I can drink him under the table.
-
Oh that reminds me, don't you owe us a plate of sushi and drink? XD :P I have curry like, at least once a month. It's like the only thing I can cook without looking up a receipe.
Is anyone looking forward to their Industry Awards?
-
Industry Awards? whats that about? D:
-
Supposedly, both Japanese and American Anime/Manga industries will be nominating the stuff. Regular people (ie. us) will be voting online around… ... uhm, forgot, around April or May?
-
Awesome haha Lets Vote lots than :3
-
Oh that reminds me, don't you owe us a plate of sushi and drink? XD :P
Crap, you remembered.
-
Crap, you remembered.
While we're on the subject of owing people stuff, you can count me in on this as well during that weekend.
Somehow it's an ongoing chain of owing each other nowadays.
-
I want some Squid Curry now thanks to ocean haha.
Man This Con is gonna be epicness :D
-
What are the rates for that hotel across the street from the convention hall (was it the Westin?)?
-
If I'm free, I'm down for hanging out Toshiya if it involves 2 of 3 things: Rock Band, Smash Bros. Brawl, and dinner.
edit–
I'm missing my confirmation e-mail, and the AX registration site doesn't have an e-mail contact yet. Should I call to have them resend it, or the e-mails haven't been sent out yet? -
Email anime08@experient-inc.com. The address is at the bottom of the reg site: http://registration.expoexchange.com/ShowSPJ081/Default.aspx.
-
I haven't registered yet, but I'm still planning on being there at least some of the days. Whether I'll drive down everyday or stay over, I'm not sure.
-
Much appreciated Ocean. Didn't actually think about checking the registration page again. Oops.
edit–
And there it is. Man, that was fast. Double thanks, ocean. -
Yw. I asked the web guy to put the contact info on their Registration FAQ page. Hopefully that'll help others, too… :) Thanks, Ichnob.
-
@Monkey:

now you're just being so asian.
-
@e1n:
now you're just being so asian.
The quote in my sig told me to do so. It can't be helped.
! Nah, I really want to enjoy this specfic four-day weekend, so I'm gonna let go of all things regardless. I can be an asshole to him and others at times, but doing that would be going too far.

First GoH for 2008 is announced: Hidaka Masamitsu
Anaheim, California ( March 12, 2008 ) ‹ Famed director Masamitsu Hidaka is the first addition to the hottest line up of Anime Expo 2008 Guests of Honor for the highly anticipated 2008 convention July 3-6, 2008 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. More information can be found on the website www.anime-expo.org < http://www.anime-expo.org > .
Mr. Hidaka was led to the world of animation during his job search efforts after unfortunately loosing his job at an architecture design office in Fukuoka. Upon discovering his new career path, Mr. Hidaka moved to Tokyo and began his career as a production runner for an animation studio. Soon after, Mr. Hidaka made his debut as assistant director in DIRTY PAIR then later as the action director and storyboard artist in the OVA KIKO SENKI DRAGONAR. Mr. Hidaka was also in charge of action choreography and storyboards for the notable title MASHIN EIYUUDEN WATARU 2. Mr. Hidaka made his directorial debut with the animated television series JUU SENSHI GARUKIBA. Since then Mr. Hidaka has worked on other highly acclaimed titles including the POKEMON television and theatrical franchise, MOBILE SUIT GANDAM WING (TV), AFTER WAR GUNDAM X (TV) and BRAVE KING GAOGAIGAR (TV). Currently, Mr. Hidaka is working as the Director for the highly anticipated GONZO television series LINEBARRELS OF IRON.
“I feel very lucky that GONZO offered me (the opportunity) to direct LINEBARRELS OF IRON(,) because when they came to me with this title, I was just looking for a mecha-anime to work on” states Mr. Hidaka. Upon reflection of his career in animation, Mr. Hidaka states “I was one of those lucky souls who (was) involved in the production of mecha-anime in the 80’s and 90’s when (the) genre was at its prime. Although the trend in today ‘s anime is character-oriented, I had been asking myself how I would be able to reassert mecha-anime without compromising marketability. I agreed to work on LINEBARRELS OF IRON because I saw it as the perfect chance to try doing just that. I hope to make a cool mecha-anime but add somewhat cute elements too.”
-
hahahahahaha. after "loosing" his job? what a looooser. xDDDDD
-
Isn't he the guy doing the Professor Layton movie?
-
@e1n:
hahahahahaha. after "loosing" his job? what a looooser. xDDDDD
You don't even know why he lost his job.
What a dreadful sense of humour you have, sir.
-
i was referring to the fact that "losing" was pronounced "loosing," not the fact that he lost his job. everyone gets laid off every now and then, there's nothing wrong with that.
-
Well, thank you for explaining your sense of humour, sir.
One would have thought the "emphasis" meant that you were mocking his past before getting into the world of animation.
-
I knew what he was talking about since I can spell. ;D
-
Kaimei's response got me thinking for a second that maybe the spelling "loosing" is correct orz.
Anyway, now it's been fixed on the AX site. Kinda shame that AX news updates contain a lot of grammar/spelling mistakes… :/

-
I'll be sure to get Masamitsu Hidaka's autograph.
By the way, is anyone interested in classic, old-school anime? If so, there might be a panel coming up this year that you'd like. The Classic Anime panel last year was one of my favorite parts of AX last year, so I hope to see it again this year. The guy running it was really cool too.
I think this year's con could be pretty good, despite the fact it's not in the best location and the people running AX need to improve on how they run things. I can't wait to see all the people I met from Arlong Park and Toei Animation again. This year could also be a big turning point for the anime industry, so I hope to get some good insight from what's going on with all the anime producers and hopefully hear some juicy announcements.
-
I love David Hayter as Snake, and I had no idea he was Tamahome. I loathed Tamahome's dub voice. Guess you learn something new everyday XD.
Well, to be honest, most of the FY English voices were either horrible, or didn't fit the character (Tamahome :p).

Oh god, that FY dub was terrible! I refused to watch it after I heard Chichiri and his "Ya know" in English…. it just...didn't sound right to me. I'll just stick to the Japanese for this one heh
-
I won't be able to make it this year…
But if all goes to plan...I'll be hitting up AX next year! >3

Nakagawa Shoko aka Shokotan will come to AX. She's probably best known as the singer of Gurren Lagann theme song?
! Anaheim, California (March 26, 2008) — The new Japanese “It-Girl”, television celebrity, blogger, voice actress and illustrator Shoko Nakagawa (“Shokotan” as her fans call her) joins the hottest line up of Anime Expo 2008 Guests of Honors for the highly anticipated 2008 convention July 3-6, 2008 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. More information can be found on the website www.anime-expo.org.
! Born in Tokyo in 1985, Ms. Nakagawa broke blog visit records in February 2008 when her blog, ‘Shokotan Blog’ received over one billion hits. Filled with photos and entries written in her own unique slang, this blog is arguably the most popular of the many celebrity blogs. The site, which Ms. Nakagawa updates as many as 15 times a day, garners over 1,800,000 hits a day.
! Among many fields of Ms. Nakagawa’s activities, music has been one of her most successful ventures. Since her singing debut in 2006, she has quickly expanded her fan base. Her single ‘Sorairo Days’, released in June of 2007, was chosen as the theme song to the popular TV anime TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGANN. Her first ever rock song, it debuted at #3 on Japan’s Oricon weekly single chart. Thanks to the ever-increasing popularity of fan events held all over the country, Ms. Nakagawa had her first concert in Tokyo in December of 2007. Tickets sold out in 25 seconds, and the show drew a crowd of 2000 enthusiastic fans.
! Ms. Nakagawa is also known for her extensive knowledge of anime and manga. On her blog she posts her thoughts on works that catch her interest, along with her own professional quality illustrations. In May of 2007, she chose 5 songs from over 1,500,000 requests, and released ‘Shokotan☆Cover’ a cover album of anime theme songs. In August of the same year, she was selected as Japan’s good will ambassador at the ‘World Cosplay Summit 2007′, an event for aficionados of cosplay from all over the world. Her live performance at the event received rave reviews from guests, setting the stage for her worldwide popularity. The next month she followed up her hit anime song cover album with the release of ‘Shokotan☆Cover 2’. The album became yet another smash hit, ranking in at #11 on the Oricon album chart.
! 2007 was no doubt a huge year for Ms. Nakagawa. On December 31st, she realized her dream of performing on the Kohaku Utagassen, Japan’s traditional end of the year singing TV program. It was a fitting way to end an impressive year. Ms. Nakagawa took her place on stage with other artists representing the best and brightest of Japan’s music stars, and received attention for her real time updates to her blog from backstage at the event.
! On the first day of the New Year 2008, Ms. Nakagawa went straight from Kohaku to perform at the prestigious Countdown Japan rock festival at 3 am. Regardless of the time, more than 5,500 people turned out to see her perform live. The same day a DVD of her 2007 concert, ‘Shokotan Donyoku Matsuri’ was released, ranking at #5 on the Music DVD chart.
! The ‘Shokotan’ fever shows no signs of stopping. The third book from her blog sold over 10,0000 copies, and her 4th single, ’snow tears’, released on January 30th, went to #2 on the charts. The ballad showing off her vocal talents like never before, the song was selected as the ending song for the TV anime HAKABA KITARO, for which Ms. Nakagawa also voices a character. She was quite moved by this fateful collaboration as her late father, the singer Katsuhiko Nakagawa had often said, ‘You can’t grow up without reading HAKABA KITARO in her childhood.
! On March 19th, her first full-length album “Big☆Bang!!!” was released with roaring support of her fans, the album debuted at #5 on the Oricon album chart. In support of the album, Ms. Nakagawa will kick off her much-anticipated Japan nation-wide tour in May. -
I'd be more excited to meet her if it wasn't for these pics she posted of herself.
!
Yes, that's really her. -

Yes, that's really her.Like that really matters. Seriously, its Shoko Nakagawa. That, and everyone has their really weird/absurd/disturbing things they do. Don't make it sound like its something that's overly weird or whatever. Those pics are relatively old.

Yes, that's really her.Now I definitely want to meet her.
-
Maybe she's trying to up Ozzy Osbourne one by using a cat instead of a dove.
Still, sounds like it could be fun. Iffin' they give out unsold tickets for free like they did last year.
-
I just hope they have a better concert controlled than last year D: Started 3 hours late :<
I also want to get free tickets lol
-
I wonder what special privileges an Exhibitor badge gets me. I hope it's something similar to the Industry Guest badge I had last year… though highly improbable.

What exactly is the exhibitor badge and how do you get it?
-
This post is deleted!
-
I, for one, cannot wait to meet Shokotan… I've seen her on Japanese news a lot lately.
-
What exactly is the exhibitor badge and how do you get it?
It's a badge for all vendors that allows you to go into the vendor room before and after close. I'm hoping that there will be a few extra perks, like choice seats at the concert, no waiting for long lines, etc.
Obtaining one is difficult. You need connections with vendors in the exhibition hall (vendor room).
-
^ I think whoever that has Press badge would get a better treatment than Industry badge. I remember my friend who worked for school newspaper told me not to staff, but instead go to cons through Manga Jouhou or ComiPress (I used to help them out). Most likely whoever that has Press badge has a separate seating from rest of members. I don't remember any industry getting special seatings…
Plus, press badge is free, while industry badge costs $40 for each additional one, I think.
-
Me and a friend are thinking of possibly going to AX this year. Does anyone know if there are hotel rooms and stuff still available?
-
I don't know, but you better act quick o_o Though, I guess there's always an option to share a room with others. I think AX forum has a room sharing thread.
-
so is there a specific time anyone is going for the tickets on day 0? im most likely representing the pirates on day 0. Someway or another

GODDAMNITMOTHERFUCKINGSHIT!
The job I got won't hire me until July so I won't have enough money in time to go to the con. God, this is so depressing. I really had my hopes on this trip. ;_;
Well, anyway, I was wondering if anyone could find a few things for me at the con. If you can find and buy me a Thousand Sunny keychain, a Smoker POP figure, or the unlikely chance that you see any thing with Brook or Perona on it, I'd appreciate it and I'll pay you back.

Have you tried finding another job in the meantime?
-
Yes I have. And no one else will hire me. Believe me, I've been searching for 7 months.
