@Sandai:
I don't think it was ever mentioned that Maya was raped although it wasn't shown. From what I remember Fu'chien wanted to make it look like Maya had been raped which in turn would provoke Shin (forgot why.)
I don't think the Chinese Martial Artist dude would go to all the trouble of making it look like Maya was raped, especially when his job was to get Shin pissed off. He didn't seem like that kind of person, and after he had his hands ripped off, he went off the deep end.
@Sandai:
You can pretty much find worser stuff in H-animes.
I won't disagree, but I do not actively seek out H-anime/manga, and though I was expecting fanservice/nudity in Ten Ten, I wasn't expecting fullblown violence of that sort. See later dissertation with Zephos.
@Zephos:
I'm not familiar with Tenjo Tenge….but like maybe regardless of the horror of it. Do you object to rape period?
Hate to beat a dead horse....but Berserk...
Gutts got raped. Bigtime character trait influence.
Very different character without it.
Of course. There's no way I would ever endorse rape, killing, arsen, vandalism, theft, or any other crime. However, those elements are acceptable within the context of a story if necessary to show development in a charcter, as is the case with Guts and Donovan. I found that shocking as well, but Guts got his revenge and he became a stronger person as a result (most people would get weaker).
The rape of Bob's Girlfriend was arbitrary, had little effect on the characters except to get them pissed off (as in, no "I wasn't strong enough to protect her" soliloque from Bob, despite the "stronger" theme of Ten Ten), was violent and graphic. Basically, Oh Great! treated the rape as fanservice, which I _strongly object to because humans are socially conditioned by media and are influenced by what they watch. Just look at how it is socially modest to wear a two piece bikini nowadays, when in the 1920's that would have been streaking. Most people who read Ten Ten and noted the rape didn't think of it as a big deal because it was fiction; but, fiction can easily become reality if the conditions are right.
I attend UC Davis, which is the #1 rape school in the entire United States. I'm sure you guys would object, too, when you've had friends who have been assaulted.
@Sandai:
Even when important to the story?
I mean dude, its part of a good romance.
Oh, I agree. I just don't care for the details. _
