Some of my friends like anime, and we talk about it alot. My friend's sister is your typical, hyper bishie-loving otaku who goes on about wanting to be like Sakura from Naruto, or how she thinks Sasuke, Kenshin, and pretty much every male manga/anime character is hot. As for my family, I sort of got my brother into Fullmetal Alchemist after he saw it on Adult Swim.

Ah, my parents' reaction to anime is just hilarious! I remember when I was in the hosptial in 6th grade, my mom was with me watching an episode of Pokemon. When she saw James, she said something like "What's Micheal Jackson doing in a cartoon?!". Now, she sort of understands it, and we watched Howl's Moving Castle just last week.

Now my dad, that's a whole different story. I don't think he gets it. Everytime he sees me watching it, he always says "This Japanese stuff again?".

      Rappin' Chopper:

"Yo; I was a reindeer livin' out in 'da snow! But then this old geeza' doctor brought me into his home! After healin' my wounds, I felt real phat. Then, old docta' Hiruk gave me this blingin' hat! My family beat me, shunt me, but it's all tight. Because I'm doin' my doctor remedies all night. I look like freak with my Human Human fruit. But now I'm with some gangsta' pirates who like to steal loot! All the girls like my blue nose. Yeah; it's the way that I get the Record scratching. Usopp's the guy with all 'da glory. He's my main man with all his tight stories. Zolo's Santoryu skills are on ice. You betta' watch out, or you gonna get sliced! Sanji's the cook servin' up the main dish. Don't mess with him, unless that's your wish. Luffy's 'da captain with the straw hat! His Gum Gum skills are real real tight. Vivi's the princess of Alabasta. Now we gotta head there, and we betta' do it faster!"

I remember one time when my dad saw Zoro for the first time(when Zoro was young), he said, "A kid with green hair, nice."

My friends showed their mom a picture of Luffy and she said that he looked ugly, due to his large eyes. XD

Meh, my mom and my sister aren't much into anime but their reactions are hillarious.

One time, I was watching Yakitate!! Japan, my sister, Nami-san, came in and went in and said "bread anime?" then she went "Japan is way original."

Then when I got into Azumanga Daioh, to be honest she got hooked to it after one episode  . Until now, she still tries to get my collectors thinpak box of Azumanga Daioh. Though she bought the 2nd bookfrom ADV manga.

For my mom :ninja: …When she sees me watch any anime, her impression is its childish and time wasting 👅 .

She says I should find a better intrest than anime. As if that would happen.

But I still respect my mothers argument though but I'm not going to quit being a otaku.

My cousin Abigail who's also 10, she has a good reaction to anime.

I was watching an episode of Full Metal Panic Fummofu from the 1st DVD by ADV Films, she comes in and says "Why is there a student bringing guns to school?"

A freind of mine in school loves anime and manga. Ashley's a huge Kyo fangirl, she's into Furuba, and her dad downloads a whole lot of anime n' manga. She's aware of how dumb 4kids is and how the messed up Tokyo Mew Mew and One Piece.

Those are all I can think of at the moment.

When I used to watch anime like DBZ on TV, my mum was often there watching it with me. Same goes if I choose to watch a video/DVD downstairs. She also knows I'm an avid manga collector but that's about it. I know one of my cousins watched the dubbed version of One Piece but I don't know how much of it. His brother once asked me about anime images he could use for his MSN icon and we had a breif talk about my interest in manga but that's about it. They were also slightly interest in Jump Superstars when I first got it but that's about it for my family.

I've only had one friend who I know was interested in anime, but he didn't really care for the shonen fighting style anime and manga that I like. We did both share interest in Cowboy Bebop though and at times lent each other some DVDs but that was about it. I haven't seen him in almost a year and don't really know of anyone else who shares the same interests.

I told my family about Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo and they haven't stopped cracking jokes about the name at family gatherings ever since.

Meh, it's better than my dad thinking everything Pokemon related is for children due to the fact that the anime exists. (I wish to buy a game for it, he tells me I'm too old, I get mad and tell him to piss off, he never gets the message.)

I thought it best to start afresh, I blend right in, I've learned to mesh, I'll eat your food, Ninja Tongue's my name, once I strike, it won't taste the same. - A poem by Don Patch

Memo to mum: Manga is not "anime books". Close, but no onigiri. 😄

My brother ogles Nico Robin, but that's it. He only really seeks to annoy me by shouting out OP-related gibberish at random intervals.

I have the typical 'It's animated, it must be for young children' kind of family. My mom sort of understands. I have told her of more 'mature' animes such as Neon Genesis Evangelion, Paranoia Agent, and Akira. She still doesn't like anime.

Then she watched an episode of Bobobo with me. I was watching it in the living room with her because I was recording something on the TV in my room (only mine and the living room TVs have cable). And her reaction was priceless. "Change the channel! I think I'm going to vomit!" she said.

My brother is basically a clone of me when it comes to manga and anime. We are both otaku's to the max. My mother and sister and older and from a different culture that doesnt really understand the things going on in most manga (i am dominican). My closest friend is also just as much of an otaku as i am. However, that is the only one of my friends (except for one) that is into anime at all. Mostly, if it comes up it is to make fun of me. (the usual shit that goes on between guys except that can really use other things against me so they use that)

My friends are all anime fans, but all of them, save one, are Narutards. Only one other person I know likes OP. I tried introducing my other friends to OP, but they're too stubborn, their minds have been made up from only seeing the dub. As for my family, I'm constantly telling my sister to try anime, especially OP, but she just says it's stupid, no matter how many reasons I give her. (She hasn't watched any anime, BTW, just judges it form appearance.). My parents actually think OP is pretty ineresting. I showed them some AMVs and they liked them. They haven't actually seen it or any other anime though.

My brother follows SOME anime (Dragonball) and my parents know which manga I like and thats about it lol.

My older brother used to like anime alot. We were both huge Dragonball Z fans a few years ago. We'd always watch shows like Dragonball Z, Evangelion, Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, and Trigun together. Then, I guess he grew out of it. He'd always be like "Anime is gay!", and said that everyone who watched it was a nerd.

When I started to like some shojou animes like the Japanese Sailor Moon and Fushigi Yugi, he probably thought I was gay. But, think about it: Watching a show where the girl is the main character doesn't necesarilly make it femenine.

He's seen me watch Dub Piece, and annoyed since I got the theme stuck in his head.

My brothers all more or less watch the same animes I do, expect my littlest brother when I comes to some adult swim shows, but I shouldn't expect them to watch those–he's only seen Inuyasha and FLCL. My parents have mixed reactions. My mom doesn't really pay attention but I've watched some anime with my dad. He saw Trigun and fell asleep a few times. He watch "Samurai X" and said he like'd it, even talked to Mom about it later. It seems he like animes that don't have "funny faces." He also likes to make fun and anime characters talking when I watch subbed anime.

I am the little black sheep that grew up in a little sports town. I also wasn't very popular as a kid. So, where I come from me + anime= stupid.

I'd be estatic if I could get my parents into some of my interestes. I got my dad to play a video game or 2 with me. He thinks it's all a silly waste of money. I remember, when I went to buy Chrono Trigger, and got into a deep conversation with the store clerk about it, my dad realized there is more to these games than a stupid waste of my money. At least I don't waste my money on smokes like mom, dad.

Anyways, coming from little ol, hockey town, to go to an art college in ontario. Well, I was in anime heaven. Everyone at Sheridan knows about anime. I learnt a lot in a short time. I was very deprived of what I loved, back home in little sports town.

I have a friend I met my first year in college. We are both into anime/manga. I buy more anime, she buys more manga, so we share. We recently traded our VHS series, NGE for C. Bebop.

I currently have a roomie from Korea so he knows a lot about anime. Unfortunatly, his and my tastes are differnt.

Then, my friends from back home. I've always tried to get them into anime. I finally hooked them with Oh my Goddess. I recently showed them, Chobits, and Habanie Remnie (sp). They hated Love Hina. Didn't like How everyone mercilessly, beat on kintaro. 😛 I like how they humor me with my anime. This summer, I'm gonna send them some FMA, and OP. See if they will like that or not.

hugs captain usopp I know how you feel, I come from a little yuppie town where everyone is too busy shopping at the mall and being yuppie to appreciate fine anime.

Nearly all my friends are geeks, so it's safe to say that they all like anime. However only one of them is more obsessed than I am (it's scary how much she has/knows/does), the rest of them are more gamers than otaku. (fanatic RP-ers) However I did get some of them into certain series, I got my friend Mel absolutely HOOKED on Kaleido Star, and I managed to spread the Naruto love (when it was good) around. Sadly, I am the only One Piece fan. They all think it's amusing, but not much else than that. I get a lot of good-natured eye rolls when I start gushing OP.

My parents are . . . . tolerant. The only anime they've really seen and appreciate are the Miyazaki films, which they admit are some of the most beautiful movies they've ever seen. But since they're both very cultured they don't knock it off as cheap cartoons from "that place with the sushi." And since they're both rabid folkies (folk music fans) they know what it's like to find something you love and devote yourself to it. However I do think they both think it's rather childish in many ways.
My dad is more willing to hear it than my mom, but since he's an anthropologist he likes anything that has to do with culture. He also once came to the last day of Anime Boston and had a grand old time just sitting in the hotel lobby and watching the cosplayers walk around. He got a kick out of it.
My mom, apart from Miyazaki, doesn't really get it at all. She's not a tv/movie person in the first place (however the one thing she does watch is Star Trek) so to her animated stuff from Japan has no alure whatsoever. She wishes I would be more . . . . cultivated and follow something like music or the arts. Both of which I appreciate but anime is my passion. I also think she's a little miffed that I'm into something Japanese because she's second generation Chinese. (old grudges die hard)

What's Kaleido Star? Never heard of that one.

I find my parents are more accepting of my unique tastes when they see someone else liking/doing it. Then they relax cause they know it's normal. I got my mom into California rolls and Tempura last time she visited. My dad didn't want to try the sushi. 😛

Kaleido Star feels like Circ-de-Soleil. You follow a young girl on her way to becoming a star acrobatic on the stage. This site has a decent link:

                                        http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=1805

                                        As for me:

Family- My sister is a big fan of Inuyasha and Miyazaki's films. It is from her that my parents got a lot of exposure to anime. A theatre near my house in New Jersey tends to show Miyazaki's movies and showed Steamboy when it was first released. Both my parents have seen their share of films. My mom will occaisionally watch an episode of Cowboy Bebop (she loves Star Trek and Farscape, probably similar to Satsuki's folks) and she will look over and check on me when I'm watching anime on TV or my computer and ask for a plot synopsis. Sometimes she'll sit and watch. Other times, she'll smile, nod, and walk off to read.

Friends- I have groups of friends that love all things Japanese and others that despise anime and manga. I find myself caught between my friends in the anime club and some of my other groups of friends because of this difference, but I balance my time between them as necessary. There are one or two other One Piece fans at the college who I regularly talk to about the series. It's always a pleasure to talk to them about it because they tend to see it from a different angle then I do and it really makes the story seem so much more multi-faceted.

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

Outside of a book, a dog is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.

Weird, you'd think there would be more in CA . . . .

But yeah, captain usopp, Kaleido Star is like Circ du Solei meets anime, only a lot more fun and less french.

Basic sports anime-ish tale of a girl who dreams of becoming a performer at the legendary Kaleido Stage, which is a place like Circ du Solei that combines acrobatic/circus performances with theater and music. It's a really well-told story about the trials and triumph of Sora (the girl) as she tries to become a star of the stage. It also has a bit of magic thrown in in the form of Fool, a harlequin-esque spirit of the stage who latches on to Sora saying she has the ability to perform the Legendary Maneuver. Fool is easily one of the best parts of the show, because not only is he mysterious and captivating (he often does tarot readings for Sora), he's also pervy, constantly telling Sora she should take a bath. (Sora usually ties him up or locks him in the closet)

At school i most of the my classmates think anime is gay, "how can you watch something like that". Anime = Pokemon, they think that's the only anime that was made and all of them are the same, talk about living in a box. I have one to four friends ho watch anime, but most of them are, inuyasha is the best, DBZ is king.
I watched lots of anime on the German channels, and have eversince, but anime was introduced into Romania only reacently, and only a small, very small, microscopic portion of the population watches it.
My mom is the most funniest think when it comes to anime and she often has WTF moments. Like she's always saying, "my son dosen't learn, he watches japanese movies, and their wierd"
But the king of WTF moments was when i visited her at work, i was smoking with her boss, talking, it was i nice day when she gives me a book "how to learn japanese, easy". That was WTF.

Lesh see, a lot of my friends like anime and manga, but everyone in my family thinks that anime is stupid (I'm also looked down upon by my aunts and uncles, as I'm the only of the grandchildren who's not an idiot jock*). They also are convinced that any (and all) cartoons are for little kids. Episode one of FMA would send half of my relatives scurrying up a tree in fear. Now for my friends….
fhqwgads (msp?) (known as The Sea Giraffe here at AP) is a huge fan of One Piece and Naruto. Fortunately he's similar to me in that we don't go all freaky over female characters (like most of my other anime knowledgeable friends), but we do discuss Naruto and OP theories on occasion. My girlfriend is an avid yaoi fanatic, as well as one of the seemingly overwhelming amount of girlish anime men fangirls. I have another few friends who are mildly interested in One Piece, but not to the point of researching the series extensively.

*note: when I say "idiot jock" I'm not saying because my brothers and cousins are jocks they're idiots; I'm saying they're idiots...and jocks. 😛

My sister is okay when it comes to anime, usually she'd just ask to borrow a DVD when she hasn't got anything else to do. She's seen all of Love Hina and loved it and watched some GTO and One Piece too. I think she's read some Negima as well, but I can't remember.

The rest of my family understand that I love anime, but have never actually watched any of it with me, or if they have simply don't appreciate it. I guess I'm lucky to have one close friend who's an otaku nerd too and loves anime like me, including the same anime. We frequently lend each other our anime and manga and generally discuss what happens or theories on what will happen and such.

The rest of my friends are uncaring, I guess. I got about two other people interested in the Battle Royale manga but not enough for them to buy their own copies (the amount of times my BR manga has been lent has practically destroyed them, meaning no more lending) and a lot of my other friends have seen the Battle Royale film, but I digress.

A lot of people only see anime as Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, DBZ or Digimon, which is a bit sad.

Battle Royale: Could you kill your best friend?

Most of them are Narutards or perverted guys who likes series that i really don't (Onegai Teacher, i don't know…). There is a girl in level 5 who likes HagaRen, but only has seen the anime. I told her to read the manga but she just talk about how sexy is Ed (I hate FMA anime fans ;__; ).

My older brother likes anime, but he isn't as freak as I am. I convinced (?) him to do cosplay with me (He is going to be Crocodile and i'm going to be Alabasta!Luffy :D). He tells me that i'm a traitor because i haven't seen anime lately because i'm reading manga.

My friends in school knows that i'm a total freaky so they respect the things i like. One Piece is going to be aired here in Mexico (HELL YEAH, UNEDITED (does that word exist? xD)) so i'll be fangirling more than usual.

Well, that sounds interesting…(cept the perv part, but I got over that in chobits, so maybe it won't be so bad)

heh, I'm soo off topic. grins

Oh no, the perv part is NOTHING like Chobits. Kaleido Star has little to no fanservice at all, it's a shoujo story at heart. The perviest thing Fool does is get a little grin on his face. As said, Sora always ties him up so he never gets to see anything. But he's not all perv, as the Spirit of the Stage he also takes delight in being mysterious.

                                                            @Kanami:

I'm studying japanese so i know many people (well, not MANY) who likes anime and manga.
I'm always saying things about One Piece, Bleach or HagaRen, so my dad knows what anime is. Actually, when he goes to U.S. he buys me a lot of HagaRen things ^^! He calls anime 'animaniacs' (yes, like the... WB dogs or whatever)

                                                            Hey! I'm a FMA fan! 🙂

I just had to comment on your bro calling you a trator. So, if I read the Lord of the Rings books, but Don't watch the movies, an I a trator? 😛

Anime's not exactly…popular...at my school, but I imagine that would be the case in pretty much any place. However, there are too many, ugh, Inuyash-holes (a term coined by my friend), and too many Narutards, and the worst are combinations of the two. Mind you, I like Naruto (not to an extreme extent) and, I mean Inuyash-hole as in people who think it's the only anime series out there (I mean no offense to Inuyasha fans, for the record).

As for my family, my parents hate anime. They complain that it's all the same and it's a bunch of grunting (I guess that's because I watch pretty much only shonen). My one sister liked DBZ, Fullmetal Alchemist, and a few other popular series, but wasn't fanatic about any of them. My other sister generally hates anime, but loves Ultimate Muscle and One Piece (sounds odd, I know). I tell her what gets changed in the One Piece dub, and now she pretty much can tell without even seeing the original. There will be a scene where she'll point out "That guy was covered in blood in the original, right?" or "That was alcohol in the original, right?" And I'll reply, "Yup."

Sure they do watch animes, but most of them only stop at the level of merely watching anime on TV. We don't talk much about animes. They do read Mangas though and we talk relatively more about manga than anime. Generally, they are more of soccer-otakus than anime/manga-otakus =X Oh and some of them ONLY watch one series (i.e. Naruto) and think it's the only and best anime in the world. I guess my friends are somewhat like mumbo230's.

As for my family, my brother and I are kind of anime otakus. We watch quite a lot of series. The only series that my parents ever caught was HxH (which I got in Chinese Dub). Well, the reason they don't really watch animes is because they don't understand English and thus cannot read subs well. If they knew English, I'm sure they would like animes as well.

We don't even talk about it much except when I tell them about all the horrible edits that 4kids has done to One Piece and that's just cause it's hilarious to talk about it.👅

                                                                              Family=

My older sister is a HUGE Cowboy Bebop fan though. The music had a lot to do with it too. The other animes she watched are due to her anime junkie friends.

My younger brother and sisters are of course interested in the Saturday morning, Miguzi andToonami block animes. Sonic X, dub One Piece, Pokemon, Yugioh GX etc.. and even the mock anime's like Avatar. I've been trying to get them into the real One Piece except that their newfound passion is Naruto now. Seriously, they LOVE IT!

My mom could give a rats ass about anime. She doesn't even comment about me watching it except once long ago when I was watching Evangelion and that was because the Eva and Angel were literally slaughtering each other. She gave me the "This promotes violence speech" XD

My dad is a different story. He's REALLY more of a gamer junkie. But he's fond of anime too. He buys the anime magazines and we sometimes talk about it. He sometimes recommends me good titles actually.

My cousins don't like anime. Everytime they find me watching it they're "Why are you watching that? It's so boring!". All of them are like that except for one of my younger cousins who has recently gotten into it. I think it was me who got her into it.:P

I'll be teaching my 12 year old brother how to use bittorent and Irc soon.

I got both of my sisters into anime when they saw the Rurouni Kenshin OVAs (Samurai X) they thought it was so badass. actually, anyone that i showed that to thought it was awesome. eventually, my older sister started watching Nadesico, Saber Marionette J, Jubei-chan, Initial D and GTO with me. i tell her about One Piece all the time, she seems interested. My lil sister however, is really picky and still doesn;t really like anime unless its really thought-provoking or Miyazaki. she enjoyed watching Cat Soup with me as well as Spring and Chaos, Tokyo Godfathers, and Millenium Actress. She also somehow got into Eva and Boogiepop Phantom and Lain. she doesn't care for One Piece unfortunately... oh well.

My hubby doesn't like much anime except for One Piece (since episode one!) Dragon Ball, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Trigun and Berserk... mainly shonen i guess. We talk about One Piece all the time, he's the only other person besides me that is caught up in the story, so its really fun talking with him about it.

Friends - most of my friends in fort worth don't care about anime, except i got one of them into Sorcerer Hunters (she even buys the manga now) and one of them liked DBZ a little (she loved Vegeta) and she thought Gawl in Generator Gawl was hot n___n

my friends in college however... i was happy to have met most of them, since they were anime fans as well... i actually got most of them into One Piece. two of them are Narutards, but that's ok.

man, in high school, i was a dbz nerd and i kept to myself most of the time, and the most unexpected thing happened... the guy i had a crush on at the time realized i liked dbz and he did too! so we became fast friends, talking about dbz all the time and stuff... man those were the days...

also, i used to draw almost nonstop in highschool... people always looked over my shoulder saying "wow, you're so good! wish i could draw!" even though i look back and shudder at the crap i drew....

Her current favorites are Trigun, Hellsing, Cowboy Bebop, One Piece and Rurouni Kenshin. As for my friends they actually get on to me for not watching adult swim more often and a few of them I recently got them into Hunter X Hunter, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, and Get Backers.

Of course that kind of happens when you're president of the anime club at uni. The weird thing is I feel as though I'm not very geeky as external appearances go. My roommate though fulfills most if not every stereotype you can imagine.

My other brother as I've mentioned before makes comments that are no "fat chicks" or "black people" every time I watch a show. He's trying to be funny.

My parents really don't care as long as I spend money responsibly and don't develop some creepy complex.

No one else in my family except my cousin watches it. She's into fanfics (particularly Yaoi stuff, which I think is ick but whatever). I got her to watch the uncut One Piece and she loves it.

My ex was really big into anime that I was into. When i went to visit her after she moved away I drew a picture of the Ginyu Force and colored it and hung it up on her wall. ❤

                                                                                        Daily grind got you down?

My mom doesn't usually ask me about anime but I was Zolo for halloween last year and my mom was very confused. My dad watches TV with my brother all the time. He doesn't really like them but it gives him something to do. He's one of those Simpsons and Beavus and Butt head (sp?) people. Occationally he will walk in on me and start immitating Luffy and Zolo.

One time I accidently left a picture of chibi Sanji on my computer desk. My dad saw it and walked in when I was eating lunch and said, "is this little kid smoking a cigarette?" and I was like, "No! You see, he's really a teenager its just thats a mini picture of him!!" and my dad was like, "Really? And you watch this?" and I didn't know what to say so i said "well on the cartoon network version its a lollipop!" and my mom said "A teenager with a death wish.. nice." She was kind of pissed to it was really embarrasing. Now everytime my brother bothers me about Sanji and my dad is in the room he says, "why do you like Sanji? He smokes. Smoking is bad for you."

4 of my friends like anime, but only two of them is obsessed like me. My best friend only likes one piece. Nothin else. She used to be anti anime. Another friend still talks about it but she stopped following it because she claims one piece stopped having blood. She likes violence.

During break, I was listening to my iPod, and she grabs one of the earbuds. She skims through my playlists, and notices I have some anime themes. Sometimes, I like the themes, but not the actual manga or anime. She saw that I had Utena and Ranma on there and said "I didn't know you were into that lesbian anime?". And then she saw some One Piece themes. She got really excited, saying that she loved One Piece. We got into a conversation about 4Kids' censorship, and she said "Sanji sounds black in the dub!"

Family: I have one sibling, an older sister. I got her hooked on anime, and now she does most of the torrenting, but I an still the expert on anime in my family. I also bought my cousin OP and Bobo-bo manga, and he likes it, but he's not as… obsessive... as we are. My mom thinks most of it is useless and a waste of time, but we forced her to watch Whisper of the Heart, Howl's Moving Castle, and Spirited Away, and she liked those. 'Cept she would only watch it in English, which is a drag. My dad likes One Piece, and he watched a couple episodes of the Arlong arc(dubbed) with me. My sister likes Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo a whole lot.

Friends: I got my friends obsessed with OP as well, but they were never as loyal fans as I was. One of them was absolutely obsessed beyond belief with Zoro. She would print out pics of him and stick them to her schoolbooks. It would have been okay if it wasn't so creepy. Now I have a friend who thinks all anime is porn, but I'm going to change that! I also have a friend who really likes Inuyasha (which I don't care for) and one who helped me with getting to my firt con. They're both in the Colorguard (and I'm in the marching band) so it was nice to have a couple of otaku in the isolation from media that is band camp. Of course, I also have friends that think anime is crap and I'm a freak for liking it. But, what can you do, really? O_--
