! The kid is alive, but the vengeful part of me would love it if he has a broken neck.
! Chapters like these are a reminder that Ippo is something of an idealist. He doesn't forgive himself for getting angry. Obviously it's not good to attack someone just because you're angry (much as we love it in manga), but being angry in and of itself is just part of being human. If Ippo had grabbed the kid by his shirt and yelled at him to next week it would have been fine.
Throughout this month, we will be testing new features (like search) so you may experience some hiccups from time to time. We'll try to not be too disruptive...
Hajime no Ippo

! Oh shit. Now when I think about it, Ippo haven't worked on his shadow at all until now. He have always boxed as a sport with no ill intentions at all. So it actually exists inside of him.
-
Oh, it's glorious.
https://mangadex.org/chapter/485014/1I give it to Morikawa, this is not a direction I had expected the series to go.

! As previously said, Ippo is an idealist. Just by slapping a kid (granted a very big slap) he suddenly thinks he's the worst person on earth. I dunno if it's because he is constantly trying to be like his dad the hero or what, but this guy never forgives himself.

Aww, Umezawa . . . .But this does give you the hope that if Ippo does go back to boxing, he can become the monster that Takamura says you have to be.
-
After reading this chapter I just watched clips of his older moments, just to remind myself of how good of a development he's had during the series run. From bully to fan to best friend. Would've liked to see a movie about those two and their friendship.
About the chapter, I wonder if Takamura will force an event to force out the "monster" of Ippo, or just make him conscious about it and find a way to unlock it himself.

Nah Ippo doesn't need to be beating people up in public and getting disowned by his mom.
-
Just shows you can't solve things that easily, Ippo:
https://mangadex.org/chapter/495854/1Seriously though, it should have been obvious that Ippo can't just throw himself in jail, especially if the victim himself isn't there. Otherwise the cops will think you're just pulling one on them. And as the cop said, there are more important crimes happening than a guy slapping another guy once, albeit technically a minor.
But Ippo just feels so guilty and thinks going to jail will fix being a bad boy, but it's not that simple. Even if you go to jail, your action is not erased.
-
This has been one of my favourite arcs of ippo. Thought that after the pseudo ending the quality would get worse, but I was proven wrong. It still can't match up to the early arcs, but haven't enjoyed ippo this much in a while.
-
got to the last chapter available and i still have no idea where the author is going with the manga.

I think this is the core of the idea.
Normally practicing martial arts acts as way for person to take control and master his violent side. Ippo haven't mastered it at all and have no clue on his violent side yet, because so far he's been boxing just for pure sports. -
And nothing scares Ippo more than the thought of him having a dark side.
-
yeah but it's not like it's the first time that ippo went violent..there was that time where that fanboy wanted him to get serious and pushed him so much that he oneshotted him so hard that he made a 360 in the air.
sure it was in a ring, but it was already pretty fucking violent..ippo went there to hurt the guy
I mean, it's not the first time the author went multiple times on the same point throughout the story before actually resolving it..but this whole monster thing doesn't really seem that fresh or new if it's all about ippo's violent tendencies.
I always thought the whole monster thing was about his lack of ambition and direction outside of pleasing his coach, more than him being unable to just wanna punch an hole in someone.

Good point. Now that you say that, in that context it seems unnatural how easily he accepted his retirement.
-
He was trying to do the right thing by keeping his health. But the right thing isn't always what our emotions want to do.
-
We are introduced to 3 new characters in single chapter…wait what the heck?
https://www.mangareader.net/hajime-no-ippo/1247
What is this….wait WHO ARE YOU?
-
! It's time for One Punch Ippo.
-
that new chapter looked positively ridicolous
-
! So Ippo bitchslapped Aoki's brother? Nice.
Humor chapter are usually great in this manga. This continues the trend. -
I figured Ippo would do that. It's very a Japanese guy thing to do.
! But why the fuck did the guy Taihei was fighting also shave his head and come join the gym? He had nothing to do with all of this other than being someone Taihei fought.
-
! Did he not see Ippo slap the shit out of Aoki's brother?
! Something like, I want to be as strong as him and I am going to show as well that I will not use it for violence. -
! Muahahahaha this opens so many possibilities after Aoki's speech about the big brother getting the 7-years treatment no matter
. I love these gag chapters, Hippo is one of the rare mangas that manage to give me the silly grin on a regular basis.

https://readms.net/r/hajime_no_ippo/1249/5607/1! lol. Poor Aoki. He is literally the gym's butt monkey.
! Also, Kumi is just dumb. Using your boyfriend to replace your favorite stuffed animal from childhood is dumb and wrong. -
Wow mangastream actually caught up to hni-scantrad and got out 1249 first! Was not expected that, they’ve been behind for ages.
-
! i'm not liking ewhere this is going…suuuure punch drunk is not something you are sure 100% to have..but those problems ippo were having were pretty much a sentence..i mean i can understand not being able to take punches like he used to,and maybe resting for a bit can help with that..but being unable to judge distances correctly? that's another story...at least i think, i'm no doctor.

Retiring is perfectly acceptable if you don't want to make your family worry or be sad, but I'm still pissed at his mother for not ONCE ever going to one of his matches.
-
Yeah, she's no Inko (My Hero Academia).
As much as she worried for her son's wellbeing, she still made sure to watch/record his sports festival performance. -
It's hard to watch your kid get hurt, but when boxing is THAT important to him, you should at least go to his championship matches.
-
Yeah even Kumi occasionally comes to watch Ippo's matches even she too hates seeing Ippo getting beat up.
-

If boxing were important to Ippo he wouldn't have needed to be told that chasing Miyata shouldn't have been his sole focus or he would've learned at some point how to not let his opponents abuse him for multiple rounds before making a comeback.

I think he loves boxing but doesn't care about the competition and being the best. He's there for a good time.

Somebody should've told him about concussions and brain damage from the outset.
-
https://readms.net/r/hajime_no_ippo/1252/5671/1
Kumi is becoming more and more fucking annoying.
-
Glad i waited and got to read those 100 chapters in one go. It was quite a ride there, felt like an interesting detour and i'm pleasantly suprised by the balls the manga author had to take his story out of hero overcomes and improves for a couple of volumes.
-
Somebody should've told him about concussions and brain damage from the outset.
I feel like people always warn him but that he just didn't care as long he could continue. And then as soon at it seems to start he stopped.
The others wants to win Ippo wants to do his best. The others want to become a champion and be the best Ippo wants to be good fight and fight Miyata.
Which creates that weird dichotomy where the only proper climatic match for Ippo would be Miyata but for the reader the climatic should be for the championship probably with Gonzalez.
-
Yeah, for Ippo Miyata is the only thing that really mattered (Boy crush with a captial B). Him fighting Gonzalez would be really cool, but winning? Nah, not his thing. Other than Miyata the only thing he wants to prove is how good his coach is.
TAKAMURA on the other hand obviously needs to punch his way to Heavyweight Champion, or it's meaningless.
-
So uh on a completely different note what's the deal with the regular?
He has those Takamura when he's serious eyes
-
The regular? Which regular?
-
The regular? Which regular?
This guy. The guy who got the crowd going for Kimura and the befriended Takamura. Remeber Taka stole Ippo's wallet to go have a meal with the regular.
-
Oh hey, look, actual boxing.
https://readms.net/r/hajime_no_ippo/1254/5701/1Granted, not Ippo, but I'll take it. And anything that can hopefully take down Marron is great.
-
This seems like a setup for Mashiba to lose.
-
HALF?! Jesus, and I thought Oda was bad.
-
Wonderful news. In 30 years he should have plenty of time to give the regular more time to shine.
Shitting up that bathroom stall was only the beginning of his legend.
-
He said he won't take another 30 year to finish it. Thankfully, lol.

-
Marron is a dick. But we knew that.
https://readms.net/r/hajime_no_ippo/1256/5745/1HnI fights are actually best read in bunches, as often single chapters don't get that interesting. Unless it's one of those special hits.
-
Marron is a dick. And he's getting worse every day.
https://readms.net/r/hajime_no_ippo/1257/5762/1 -
he sure needs to speed things up if we are only near the half or we are never gonna see the end
-
I wish they'd just get on with revealing what the secret trick is gonna be.
I mean i know this is how it always is but just get on with it already
-

That's why you should always read a Ippo match by batch of 5 or 10 chapters.
But yeah at least usually I feel that I'm building to the twist and that the fighter is acting in a suspicious way. Right now I'm just watching someone get pummeled… And he tried using Kimura's technique.
