I started watching the Anime in late summer and luckily I've just finished in time (some days ago) for the new season. Hopefully they can keep up their good work.
Currently I try to catch up with the manga, but damn, that's pretty much, isn't it? Well, at least the Anime has got A LOT of material to build from. 
Anyway, does anyone know who will be subbing this? I've read that Saizen wants to, but are there any other groups beside them?

The first episode was underwhelming in the way that all first episodes of sequels always are. But it's still classic Ippo.
Next week should be better. The start of Miyata vs. Arnie Gregory!

Hopefully it takes off next episode since HNI is still running, so it's not like a revamp, it's a continuation. Man, I watched the episodes in batches when the show had ended last time. Watching it once a week is gonna be murder!

Wooh! I know it was mostly recap and nostalgia bombing but I still loved it. I haven't had something to watch other than OP since TTGL. That opening was awesome and the overall look of the show seems to have stayed the same, with some improvement in animation obviously. Can't wait to see all the best fights animated!

Does the anime follow directly manga and if it does what chapters does it cover?
The first HnI series covered volumes 1-30 of the manga at 76 episodes.
This second series is reported to be 90 episodes long, so hopefully we'll at least get another 40 volumes worth.

As to the content of the series right now, my only complaint is both anime and manga are on Miyata, who I don't care much for. I hope he loses to Randy Boy Jr. just because that would make things really interesting for Ippo to bust him down. I just don't really see Miyata as a big star, but he does give ok matches. I am enjoying seeing Sendo commenting; kinda wish his clash with Miyata weren't a spar with toned-down speed, for good gauging of the character's strength.

If Funi did the series I think it would be in they're best interest to get new voices rather than retain the ones Geneon had.

I want the series to be released in the US also. I was one of the few fans that actually bought the Ippo (Fighting Spirit) DVDs released by Geneon, and I really enjoyed the dub cast for it. But considering that Ippo Series 1 didn't sell so well here, there's less of a chance we'll get this new series here (unless it gets super popular all of a sudden) …
If a miracle happens and some US company releases it here, let's hope they'd do it justice dub-wise/release-wise and it is successful so maybe we can get the whole series or even the manga!
Form what I heard the dub wasn't that bad, but IF Funimation to get this anime I hope they just release the first 2 seasons they way it is, and the new anime they will dub (since they are already busy w/ many other animes…namely the Gunso, which have lots of episodes)

I kinda agree with the King; I wish they'd stop Miyata's match so that they can get on with Takamura's match. Miyata should just wait for Ippo to get old and fatter, and change weight classes. That guy has way too many hidden injuries; he's like boxing's equivalent of Andruw Jones.

Pretty sure the Mashiba fight wasn't like that.
I've often wondered about that myself; seems like being supported by people who only want you there so the world can end in fire (with you going to Hell in the process) would be somewhat off-putting

I read the manga, never watched the anime but I won’t let the Takamura Vs Hawk escape me when it gets animated, the greatest fight in manga’s history, I still remember when I read it I was so hooked I couldn’t stop saying “only shit”.

I'm really behind in the manga, but is it true that since the beginning Ippo only fought against 21 (or is that something different, like something to do w/ the anime)?

90 is unusual for a second series anime, unless we're talking about all Ippo series combined? Either way, an episode count of that calibur is REALLY daunting for most people, especially if the material is "dry" - I can see how people make the effort for super long shounen like Naruto, Bleach and OP but could we say Ippo is as accessible as those three?
Probably not for casual anime fans or dub watchers considering how well Ippo did in the states, but I personally enjoy Ippo a lot more than I do Naruto and Bleach for the most part. I like OP better, but Ippo is pretty darn good. Never expected a boxing anime to draw me in so well.

Also from what I'm gathering on the characters so far, it seems like Takamura and Martinez are the two strongest people in the series. So shouldn't they have a match, or is that never going to happen?

Didn't Takamura change weight classes? Martinez could do the same thing. Are they really the strongest characters or is there anyone who turns up later that is better?
Takamura is a natural Heavyweight, but fights at Middleweight because there are no professional Heavyweights in Japan. As he collects world titles though he plans to continue moving up until he's in his natural weight class, because the weight control to get to Middleweight is ridiculous for him.
And the weight difference even between Featherweight and Middleweight is pretty significant. There's no way Martinez would change his weight class, especially not at this point in his career.
Even if they are considered the two best fighters in the series, the sheer difference in power between a Featherweight and a (should be) Heavyweight is too great.

In terms of sheer power then yeah, Takamura would win, but again, that's because he's Heavyweight. If we're talking pure technique/fighting prowess I'm not so sure who'd win. Martinez has proven he's both a master of textbook AND natural fighting, which Takamura is too. It's only the difference in power that marks Takamura higher.

I'd like to see Takamura fight some Ippo equivalent to Tyson or Ali. If the series can scale lightweight Japanese boxers up to be as powerful as they are, imagine what those guys would be like.
